Oakland's only open-admission animal shelter is having another crucial adoption event this weekend to prevent inhumane half-kennels, and they need The City's help
I posted a similar event a few months back, and it was hugely successful thanks to the Bay Area community.
There are a lot of things out of our control here - An uptick of the houseless population, not enough veterinarians, lack of animal welfare education, and a major rise in dog surrenders due to housing issues (moving, landlord restrictions, funds). In fact, Oakland is by far the leading city in the nation for percentage of animals being surrendered due to housing issues! Yay...
We've had a good amount of adoptions lately here at Oakland Animal Services, but we are over-full again (so quickly, too😭) and still need your help to find forever homes for our remaining 100 adoptable dogs and prevent inhumane half-kennels.
So! We're extending our adoption hours to 12-5pm on March 25-26 (this weekend), so come and meet your (or your resident dog's) new best friend if you're nearby!
We're also offering training scholarships to all adopters, and throwing in a $50 Rover gift card for each new pet parent if you need pet sitting. Plus, we'll have raffle prizes for adopters and their furry friends.
Come and take advantage of our reduced adoption fee (which includes spay/neuter surgery, microchips, etc):
⭐️ Waived adoption fee for seniors 7 years +
⭐️ $20 for cats, dogs, rabbits
⭐️ $10 for guinea pigs, pigeons (yes, pigeons are a thing)

Letters of Recommendation (FERPA exists so I'm guessing)
Government teacher- 7/10. Wasn't worried about this one until I received four rejections this week. Doesn't know me super well, but assumed she'd write an okay letter. Not sure anymore.
English teacher - 9/10. I know she wrote some unique things about me, and she is a FANTASTIC writer, so I really trust that she wrote it well
School FBLA advisor - 9/10. The teacher I'm closest to, knows me extremely well and is aware of everything I've done for the club and on the state level.
Counselor- 7/10. Wrote my nomination letter for a service award (which I did get), so I heard a blurb of what he wrote about me, and it sounded pretty good; it should be pretty standard, but nothing that could've hurt me
Interviews
UPenn- 8/10, interviewer was sweet and I felt like I said everything I could've, but I did screw up one question which could've been important (How do you find a balance between your academic and social life, super important to Penn culture)- freaked out and gave a super generic answer
Georgetown- 6/10, had internet connections on my end, so we had to move to a phone call. The conversation just didn't flow as well as I wanted it to, and Georgetown is one of my dream schools, so I'm really upset
Harvard- 8/10, interview was standard, was actually pretty disappointed in my interviewer- didn't ask any interesting questions and guided my interview in a very boring way. She was super sweet though, just didn't feel like I did the best I could've
Princeton- 12/10, absolutely perfect. My interviewer was older, but I felt super calm throughout the whole thing and was very happy with how I handled all the answers. He told me he's rooting for me to get admission, knows I'll have a lot of options (lol he was wrong!) and that I'll choose Princeton out of all of them :)
Cornell- 6/10, not evaluative, interviewer was older and barely knew anything about the school now, so didn't get me excited or anything
Northwestern- 9/10, interviewer was the absolute best, would even tell me what he'd write on my report as I spoke, very casual conversation and felt very good about it
Decisions (unbelievably disappointed and want to cry):
Acceptances:
Waitlists:
Rejections:
Waiting on:
At this point, I'm completely done and have lost any kind of hope I could've had of getting a T20. USC came as a massive shock, especially considering I'm a National Merit Finalist. Same with WashU, I did the video portfolio and everything, and it didn't work out. Extremely disappointed and feel like everything I've done was for nothing. I'm still in complete shock and genuinely don't think I can go back to school after spring break.

2023.03.25 01:16 gwar455 inner species Society

I know the title of this little post sounds confusing but hear me out. I think the biggest thing that's wrong right now is society is that people are always around each other and deal with so many conflicts that truly shouldn't be such a big deal but constantly bicker and fight with each other about them. I think that a smaller Society should be formed many of them throughout the nation now what I'm about to save might sound like farming or some kind of zoo. But it's far from the truth and some people know some animals can't exist without humans they need humans to help Advance their species I believe we can make little small towns and Villages that can actually work with a certain type of animals to repopulate their species because so many animals get endangered especially nowadays with the advance of Technology. I think that small towns where people take care of a certain animal like maybe foxes or Wildcats or some kind of creature that is on the verge of Extinction. The connection that man had with animals in early civilization I believe was the key to making harmony with the animals and the Earth. I believe a true reason why things are the way they are so negative so chaotic and destructive is because mankind has lost their connection you can walk through a city all day and not say half the creatures are ancestors have or have the connection they had with those animals I believe is many times was to move steadily forward we'll have to make sure we can advance other species to make them move steadily forward. And to make people more lighthearted because most people can't connect well with animals that's why we have support animals and animals that or good helps for people with disabilities and whatnot emotional support animals these things happens because animals speak to us mentally in a way or through body language they don't verbally say crazy stuff to make you go insane or try to have a purpose of taking advantage of you well maybe when you're hungry but other than that their purpose isn't to cause chaos to give themselves some diluted form of gratification.

2023.03.25 01:01 RTNoftheMackell This isn't OK. You aren't crazy.

More than half of the top tier, the most brilliant people I know are unemployed. I am talking about absolutely sparkling, genius level talent, which has found no marketable outlet or appreciation amongs the broader community. This gives me some solace, since I have never been able to find secure employment, either. But that's not the point I want to make right now.
I think this is always a problem - brilliant people being rejected and shunned by society - but it's more of a problem now than it usually is. Here are some thoughts on why:
Bureaucracies, like police, are at best a neccessary evil. When they are not neccessary, they are just evil.
The great thing is the combination of material superabundance and digital technology has made almost all bureacracies obsolete, and fundamentally, unecessary. The number of humans involved in anything but the actual provision of real world goods and services could be reduced to almost zero. When your boss stops reporting your wages to the ATO, but instead we have half a government department and a nation wide network of "service providers" whose whole job is to give unemployed people hoops to jump through.
That could all be eliminated overnight.
The downside of this great thing is that the existing institutional framework now has a massive vested interest in shutting down progress to prevent it's own irrelevance. The interests of the institutions are at odds with the interests of the society they are supposed to serve.
That's why everything is a nightmare all the time and nothing works and you can never relax. You aren't crazy. Don't let them gaslight you. This isn't ok.
The present has an immune system, which attacks the agents of the future like a virus. But the virus will win in the end. It always does.

2023.03.25 00:45 bikingfencer Romans introduction and chapter 1 - (https://esv.literalword.com/?q=Romans+1)

ROMANS   Epistle [אגרת, ’eeGehRehTh] [of] Shah’OoL [“Lender”, Saul = Paul] unto the Romans
Looming more ominously for me than for most, apparently, is the approaching destruction of Jerusalem and of the Jewish nation precipitated by its revolt against Rome less than 20 years after this epistle was written. The end was coming like a deluge. Was that the source of Paul’s zeal? Was he trying to get as many people on the ark as possible? Did he suppose that if his evangelizing mission could be completed before all hell broke loose, the Lord of Hosts would then intervene, upon which occasion it would not matter which army one was in (Roman or Israelite), but whether one was part of the remnant worthy of salvation?
I think we now see the gospel as transcendent, supra national, and personally spiritual. But in Paul’s day, there was a clear realization that history was coming to a head, and that God himself would write it as imagined by the authors of Daniel and Revelation. Paul speaks so forcefully to his audience that to this day many readers expect the rapture to come before they finish reading the book.
“The times are known to you, now is the time to rouse from sleep, for our salvation is closer now than it was on the day we began to believe.” Chapter 13, verse 11i
“At many points there has been occasion for comment on the importance for Paul of his eschatological expectations … Salvation is primarily and essentially future, but is even now in a secondary or derived sense available, since the future age is already beginning to break in on us. It is this fact which gives the present time (καιρος, kairos) its crucial importance and imparts to the ethical exhortations Paul has given a supreme urgency. It is noteworthy that Paul has not made any of his injunctions conditional upon the fact of the rapidly approaching consummation, he has not mentioned the crisis at all in the ethical section until this point, and he mentions it here only to provide an additional incentive for allegiance to standards which have been set up and refined without any reference to it. The near approach of the final salvation and judgment does not make these practical teachings more true; but as Paul sees it, the coming event does make them more relevant and compelling.” (Knox, TIB 1954, pp. IX 608-610)ii
INTRODUCTION
“This letter shows signs of having been composed under conditions of greater leisure, and therefore with greater care, that any of the rest, and thus comes nearer to being a systematic and inclusive statement of Paul’s faith. It is thus the principal source book for the study of Paul’s gospel, and in consequence it is unquestionably the most important theological work ever written.” (Knox, 1954, TIB p. IX 355)
“To read Paul’s words is to hear his voice.” (Knox, 1954, TIB p. IX 355)
“His major preoccupation … has been the disastrous rift between the conservative Jerusalemite body of Christians and their Gentile brethren.” (Knox, 1954, TIB p. IX 359)
THE CHURCH AT ROME
“The most probable ancient account of the beginning of Christianity in Rome is given by a 4th century writer known as ‘Ambrosiater’:
‘It is established that there were Jews living in Rome in the times of the Apostles, and that those Jews who had believed [in Christ] passed on to the Romans the tradition that they ought to profess Christ but keep the law [Torah]iii … One ought not to condemn the Romans, but to praise their faith, because without seeing any signs or miracles and without seeing any of the apostles, they nevertheless accepted faith in Christ, although according to a Jewish rite.’ Ambrosii Works iii 373.” (Knox, 1954, TIB p. IX 367)
From Adam Clarke:
“The occasion of writing the epistle: … Paul had made acquaintance with all circumstances of the Christians at Rome … and finding that it was … partly of heathens converted to Christianity, and partly of Jews, who had, with many remaining prejudices, believed in Jesus as the true Messiah, and that many contentions arose from the claims of the Gentiles to equal privileges with the Jews, and from absolute refusal of the Jews to admit these claims, unless the Gentile converts become circumcised; he wrote this epistle to adjust and settle these differences.” (Clarke, 1831, p. VI 3)iv
“God had rejected the unbelieving Jews, and had substituted in their place a society of believers in Christ; collected indifferently from Jews and Gentiles.” (Clarke, 1831, p. VI 3)
“… the Jews were the subjects of God’s kingdom under the old form [unlike Gentiles] and therefore could be called only to submit to it, as it was now modeled under the Messiah. Or they were called to repentance, to the faith, allegiance, and obedience of the Son of God, and to hope of eternal life through him; whom rejecting, they were cast out of God’s peculiar kingdom.” (Clarke, 1831, p. VI 19)
Chapter One
Introduction [מבוא, MahBO’, “what’s coming”] [verses 1-15]
-1. From [מאת, May’ayTh] Shah’OoL, slave [of] the anointed YayShOo`ah [“Savior”, Jesus], who was called to be a sent-forth [apostle] and singled out [ויחד, VeYooHahD] to tidings [gospel] of Gods,
-2. tidings that Gods promised from before [מקדם, MeeKehDehM], in mouths of His prophets, and writings the sacred 3. regarding [על-אודות, `ahL-’ODOTh] his son, YayShOo`ah the anointed, our lord, that according to [שלפי, ShehLePheeY] the flesh, his derivation [מוצאו, MOTsah’O] is from seed of David,
-4. and according to Spirit the Holy was demonstrated [הפגן, HooPhGahN] that he is son [of] Gods, in power [בגבורה, BeeGBOoRaH] in his resurrection from the dead.
“Many commentators see [this] … as a concession [by Paul] to the supposed ‘adoptionist’ Christology of the Roman church … [-] the view that Jesus became the Son of God (or the ‘Christ’ or ‘Lord’) at some point after the beginning of [his] earthly life, that God chose or ‘adopted’ him to be the Messiah. … early Christology was almost certainly of this type, the Resurrection being the moment of adoption. … the primitive ‘adoptionism’ represented by certain statements in Acts (e.g. [for example], 2:36) was not immediately replaced by incarnationism … There was almost certainly an intermediate stage represented by the letters of Paul and to some extent by the synoptic Gospels. At this [intermediate] stage the pre-existence of Christ is affirmed … only gradually was it realized that [this] entailed a re-telling of the entire story.” (Knox, 1954, pp. TIB IX 382-385)
...
…………………………………………………………………
Energy [of] the Tiding
[verses 16-17]
-16. “I have no shame in tiding of the anointed, that behold she is energy [of] the Gods to save …
“The word salvation [save] … in the New Testament period … had among Jews come to mean … the great deliverance which God would bring to pass in the last days. So it is used by Paul … an eschatological term … for … Paul believed that the ‘last days’ had already begun to come.” (Knox, 1954, TIB p. IX 391)
-17. “For has come justification of [צדקת, TseeDQahTh] the Gods,
“Generally speaking, in the Old Testament it is those who are already righteous whom God vindicates. The meaning is literally ‘justification’ – i.e. [in other words], … the being treated as righteous, of those who are in fact righteous. It is at this point that Paul’s doctrine of justification diverges from the O.T. [Old Testament, the Hebrew Bible] conception, for the distinctive thing about the justification made possible by Christ is that it involves the declaring righteous, the treating as righteous, of those who are in fact not righteous. Commentators often seek to get around the difficulty here – the apparent validation of a fiction – by insisting that the verb δικαιοω [dikaioo] meant to ‘make righteous’ … the final sigma [ς] … dropped from the adjectival form (δικαιος [dikaios]); such an interpretation can be sustained only by rather violent exegesis.” (Knox, 1954, pp.TIB IX 390-391)
“revealed [מתגלית, MeeThGahLaYTh] from within [מתוך, MeeThOKh] belief for the purpose [לתכלית, LeThahKhLeeYTh] [of] belief, as is written: ‘and justification will be by faith.’” [Habakkuk 2:4]
-18. “And truly [ואמנם, Ve’ahMNahM] fury [זעם, Zah'ahM] [of] Gods is revealed from the skies upon all their evil and their wickedness of sons of ’ahDahM [“men”, Adam], the suppressers [המעכבים, HahMe'ahBeeYM], in their wickedness, [את, ’ehTh (indicator of direct object; no English equivalent)] the truth.”
“Those who believed the declarations of God when the Chaldeans besieged Jerusalem, having acted conformably to them, they escaped with their lives.” (Clarke, 1831, p. VI 70)
………………………………………………………………
The Denial [ההתכחשות, HahHeeThKahHayShOoTh] to truth and her outcomes [ותוצאותיה, VeThOTsah’OThayHah] [verses 18 to end of chapter]

-18. “And truly [ואמנם, Ve’ahMNahM] fury [זעם, Zah'ahM] [of] Gods is revealed from the skies upon all their evil and their wickedness of sons of ’ahDahM [“men”, Adam], the suppressers [המעכבים, HahMe'ahBeeYM], in their wickedness, [את, ’ehTh] the truth.”
“We cannot ‘absolve’ God of responsibility for judgment without accepting in effect the Marcionite belief in two Gods – one of judgment and the other of love.”

2023.03.25 00:19 Ali_Perfectionist Article: "Negative" Football VS "Beautiful" Football - What Is Morally Right?

The debate of whether football teams should be forced to abandon the ultra-defensive, unmitigatedly pragmatic styles of play characterized by teams of tacticians such as Diego Simeone and Jose Mourinho, and be entrusted with the commandment of employing riskier, attack-based, and dynamic playing styles in which the objective of scoring would far outweigh the importance of not conceding, is a rather arduous one. On one hand, there will be proponents of liberty for coaches; those who, while not necessarily supporting defensive football, argue that a head coach is exquisitely cognizant of his own club’s limitations and objectives while bearing the inevitable responsibility of making his team win and, thus, has the right to craft the team in his image, however it may appear to others. Similarly, on the other hand, there will be opponents to the aforementioned ideology, who will label defense-based football as boring, overly reactive (or “negative”), and detrimental to the game on a whole. These people will argue that attacking football is “beautiful” football, that it stimulates creativity and audacity in players and promotes intrasquad unity and team skills; hence, it should be established as the default style of play, incumbent on every team to adopt. To me, a passionate fan and student of the game, both sides of the argument deserve recognition and contemplation. My aim here is not to vouch for one side over the other; instead, I intend to present both sides of the argument in as clear and impartial a way possible. Therefore, in as sagacious of an attempt as I can possibly devise, here is my take on this topic:
To start off, there is no such thing as an objectively “bad” or “negative” style of play. Football is free to be played in any way one desires. Just like in real life, where some people aspire to become writers; others, lawyers; many others, physicists; etc., each coach has his own unique way of interpreting the game and deciding on the best approach to maximizing goalscoring opportunities while, simultaneously, minimizing chances of conceding goals. For many coaches, like Helenio Herrera, a highly pragmatic, organized, and systematic approach yields impeccable results. For many others, such as Johan Cruyff, an artistic, free-flowing, and dynamic approach works amazingly. A manager like Herrera will exhibit an authoritarian personality, expecting his players to be docile, abiding, and disciplined to the highest degree, leaving no degree of ambiguity in the team’s gameplan; on the other end of the scale, a coach of Cruyff’s mantle will radiate a far laxer, student-mentor-type aura, expecting his men to question him (although within limits) and to explore themselves on the pitch, giving his players freedom to use their own creativity during games. Herrera would favor being sturdy over being capricious; Cruyff would go for the reverse. Now, generally, many observers would tend to brand Helenio Herrera as the more “negative” manager who emphasizes results over quality of play. However, if we are to compare Herrera’s and Cruyff’s managerial careers in the most important aspect of garnering trophies and conclude who was better, then, objectively, Herrera would come out on top, with 16 trophies to Cruyff’s 14. Herrera also won the pinnacle of European football – the European Cup (now branded as the “Champions League”) – more times than Cruyff, with two to his name against Cruyff’s solitary win in 1992. And, Cruyff is not the only one who revolutionized football with his idea of Total Voetbol and the “Dream Team,” with Herrera also credited with the formation of the “Catenaccio” tactic and going on to influence many future coaches and team styles and being revered to this day. So, with regard to the ultimate purpose of winning, “negative” football actually proves to be better in this case. Of course, there are many other factors to consider (e.g., financial power of the club, league competition at the time, player injuries, length of managerial career, etc.) and there will, certainly, be many other comparisons which may conclude with an attack-minded coach triumphing over a defense-based one, but the point remains clear: considering the ultimate objective of the game, there is no inherently “wrong” or “bad” stye of play for a team to employ.
Now, let us transition to outside the pitch – towards the stadium, towards the fans. Personally, I myself will not deny that if I, in the modern-day and age, had to choose between watching Arsenal play a regular Premier League game and Atlético de Madrid play a high-stake Champions League knockout tie, I would choose the former. Why? Because I know Arsenal play expansive, dynamic, free-flowing, and forward-thinking football which is joyful to watch, and I have no issues labeling Atleti as a prosaic and cautious side which can be boring to watch. When fans put on a game, they tune into their visceral side rather than their intellectual one; they want to experience the joy a child feels when presented with a surprise gift of his or her favorite toy, they want to be excited and enthralled by the match and experience the competing sides go all-out, crafting innovative and different strategies to try and win the match. Fans like to see iconoclastic play, not just another day of regularity. How often have you heard of underdog runs and giant-killings being discussed like folklore? To name just a recent few, Atlético de Madrid’s La Liga win in 2014 and journeys to two Champions League finals, and Leicester City’s 2016 Premier League win, are standout examples. This is why any sport – especially the beautiful game – is so beloved to its viewers: it provides them with an escape from the mundane activities of daily life by exposing them to the unpredictability of the game! If a person was given the option of viewing a high-pressing team renowned for its astute attacking combinations (e.g., modern-day Manchester City, Denmark, Napoli, etc.) or a well-organized, battle-hardened team like Atleti or Inter Milan, he would more-than-likely choose the former, and this probability increases further if the viewer is not a personal fan of the latter two teams. Seldom does anyone prefer to see stern, compact, reactive football in which not losing is heavily prioritized over winning. So, in this case, the pendulum shifts towards attacking football.
Lastly, the aspect of the footballing world I will be examining will be team resources. Specifically, the quality of coaching staff and players at the club, the financial resources of the club, and the overall pedigree of the club. What I mainly intend here is to compare, for example, a club which regularly finishes in the top-three or top-four of its respective league to a club that is a regular relegation-contender in the same league, and analyze how these different circumstances may mandate the respective clubs to adhere to particular playing styles. For this case, let’s take Manchester City and Burnley. Currently, Manchester City boasts some of the best talents in the world, with Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva, and Ruben Dias, to name a few, all holding starting spots at the club while being known as one of the most potent in the world in their respective positions. Comparatively, what “world-class” players does Burnley pride itself on? Yeah, you would have to think long and hard to answer that. Additionally, Manchester City has arguably the best coach of this generation – and one of the greatest and most revolutionary of all time – in Pep Guardiola. Thus, City’s player and coach quality is head-and-shoulders above Burnley’s, which gives it a built-in advantage in a direct match-up between the two sides and increases the marketability of the club for potential incoming transfers, as potential signings prefer to play alongside skilled colleagues and under acclaimed mentors. Now, let’s delve into the financial clout of each club. Manchester City’s current total market value is 1.05 billion, compared to Burnley’s 96.55 million. Synonymously, this would mean Manchester City is worth ten times more than Burnley. In addition to this, using data from Transfermarkt.com, if one is to compare the two clubs’ transfer activities for the last five years, Manchester City ends up with a total net spend of -259.34 million, compared to a thrifty -4.74 million for Burnley. And even after being in such a magnanimous deficit, City has won three of the last five (currently second in the ongoing title race of 2022/2023) league titles and has been competitive in other competitions as well, winning six other trophies and being a runner-up in the Champions League, once. City also has been able to, despite the recently-mentioned deficit, spend scrumptiously in the transfer market, bringing in the likes of Jack Grealish, João Cancelo, and Riyad Mahrez during the timeframe. In stark contrast, Burnley has not won a single trophy and even ended up being relegated from the first division, last year. Thus, when you see a club as mighty as City being able to spend such large sums for its growth and succeeding in the process, and compare it to how little clubs like Burnley can afford to spend to keep themselves in the race, it is no surprise that a team like Burnley would opt to deploy defensive tactics against such formidable opposition, because it simply cannot keep up with the quality. Lastly, the overall pedigree of the respective clubs comes into play as well; Manchester City has 36 total club trophies to Burnley’s 10 (Transfermarkt.com); City has perpetually qualified for the Champions League since the last eleven years (Wikipedia.org) while Burnley, in its entire history, never has; City bestows its players with much more and much superior marketability opportunities; City has a more famed academy with recent graduates like Phil Foden being live proof; playing for City gives a player more opportunities for development and, consequently, increases the player’s likelihood of being picked for his national side; and, as aforementioned, City’s squad boasts the world’s best potential colleagues and coaches, making it virtually impossible for any player the club is interested in signing, to refuse. Quite simply, it would not be unnatural to say that it is clear that City will be able to assemble a far stronger team than Burnley. Hence, it is with the thought of all these disadvantages compounding that the coach of Burnley may decide that a defense-first approach would be best for his team since, in a naturally low-scoring game like football, it is definitely easier to not concede than it is to score. How can a person have the guts to accuse a coach of playing defensive football when he knows about such ingrained inequalities between his team and the opposition? Therefore, in this area, liberty of playing style defeats attacking football.
Now that this argument has been viewed from multiple angles, I believe it is appropriate to arrive at a conclusion and, before I state it, I will admit that there are countless other factors not explored in this article, such as player injuries, which can contribute to numerous other pendulum-shifts. Personally, I love watching attacking, expansive, and fearless football but I am – along with being a fan of the game – a student and reader of the game as well and, as a result, I can comprehend the need for a coach to have freedom to implement the playing style he deems best for his team and given circumstances. Heck, I would even hypothesize that a strong team like Manchester City would play more cautiously if many of its starters were out injured, on international duty, and the like! Thus, just as different languages employ various writing styles, be they alphabet-based, syllabaries, or logogram-oriented, I believe football teams have the right to utilize whatever tactical approach they deem best for themselves – therein lies the beauty of the game. In summary, the “beauty” or “flair” of a football team does not lie in its fundamental playing style; rather, it lies in its mentality and belief behind it, in the passion that galvanizes the team to march on and reach the zenith of its path.

2023.03.25 00:18 Oaklandrth Oakland's only open-admission animal shelter is having another crucial adoption event this weekend to prevent inhumane half-kennels

So! We're extending our adoption hours to 12-5pm on March 25-26 (this weekend), so come and meet your (or your resident dog's) new best friend!
❤️🐾
https://www.oaklandanimalservices.org/ << Please don't hesitate to ask any questions here, I work at this shelter and I'm open to it all (but also please look at the other thread I linked since there's some good discussion from the last post).
Love you, East Bay!

Oakland's only open-admission animal shelter is having another crucial adoption event this weekend to prevent inhumane kennels
**EDIT: I screwed up the title, it's meant to say " inhumane half-kennels", which halves the amount of space the large dogs are housed in (which is already too small).

2023.03.24 23:53 scuffbeard Found an injured ~ 2 week old baby Raccoon (eyes aren't even open yet)

I was walking along an area with a big oak tree canopy when all of a sudden I heard a shrieking cry. This particular noise I've never heard before. I thought maybe it was a bird. As it got louder I looked in the direction and on the ground was what I thought was a small rat or maybe a hedgehog. It was neither.
To my surprise it was a baby raccoon! I realized very quickly that he had a bloody and sizeable flesh wound on one of his hind legs. I decided I had to act and grabbed him by the scruff of his neck and carried him the few hundred yard walk back to my house.
At my house I cleaned him with soap and water, especially his wound. I put some povidone iodine on his wounded leg as he cried. It was so sad because although his eyes hadn't opened I saw the tiniest beads of tears coming out of his eyes. I wanted to help this little guy with all of my heart and soul despite the fact that I've experienced raccoons as a serious nousance in my neighborhood.
I continued to clean his wounded leg and put triple antibiotic ointment on it as well as the tiniest amount of lidocaine to help ease his pain slightly. I dressed it in gause and bandaged it up. As soon as I wrapped his little body in a big beach towel he instantly nestled in as I rubbed his head and he fell asleep for many hours. This was last night.
I woke up today and bought some cat formula (as I read that is the closest thing I could buy to raccoon milk) and a tiny bottle. He suckled for a bit when I tried to feed him but I had to force some of it on him as he kept sniffing the bottle and knew it wasn't his mother's breast. He kept moving forward longing for that warmth of his mother's underbelly. I feel so sad for this abandoned little guy and I don't know what to do.
I live in Martin County, Florida. If anybody has any suggestions besides the typical "call the humane society/local wildlife sanctuary" please let me know. *(I've tried calling and they don't answer and have a bad reputation, at least the ones I know about .
Thanks for your help. I'll post some pictures of the little guy in a few hours when I get home from work!

2023.03.24 23:51 Competitive-Entry-96 Is there a universal definition for Socialism?

A quick google search says that socialism is “a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole”(Oxford Languages). A similar description comes from Britannica when they define socialism as, ”a social and economic doctrine that calls for public rather than private ownership or control of property and natural resources. According to the socialist view, individuals do not live or work in isolation but live in cooperation with one another. Furthermore, everything that people produce is in some sense a social product, and everyone who contributes to the production of a good is entitled to a share in it. Society as a whole, therefore, should own or at least control property for the benefit of all its members.” (Britannica). In opposition the quick google search defines Capitalism as, “an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit” (Oxford Languages). But Britannica defines it as, “a widely adopted economic system in which there is private ownership of the means of production. Modern capitalist systems usually include a market-oriented economy, in which the production and pricing of goods, as well as the income of individuals, are dictated to a greater extent by market forces resulting from interactions between private businesses and individuals than by central planning undertaken by a government or local institution. Capitalism is built on the concepts of private property, profit motive, and market competition.” (Britannica).
From my understanding, the free market is barbaric and primitive in nature as it leads to monopolies and exploitation. To combat it, socialism is already present in most countries in the form of regulations which you could argue is an example of “public control of production.” And similarly social government programs are also an example of socialism in the form of “public ownership of property.”
The mischaracterization of socialism being the same as communism, which is totalitarian, is obviously still present since 20th century. Im of the opinion that socialism stands in the middle of spectrum between “Free Market Capitalism” and “Planned Economy Communism.” But most people rebrand that as “Mixed Economy” or “Social Democracy.” My question is what is the definition of Socialism? Is it not: -government(public) regulation or control on the market(blocking monopolies, stoping exploitation of people and damage to the environment) -government(public) ownership of some industries(first responders, transportation, schooling, defense etc.) -social welfare programs( healthcare, pensions, education etc.)
This all fit the definition of socialism I quoted above, but if you say you’re a socialist you’re immediately rebranded as a Leninist. Or possibly I have the wrong conception of Socialism.

2023.03.24 23:49 IvanBourbaki COMMUNISM will be built bypassing socialism! Socialism is outdated. Communism is ripe

All the material prerequisites for building communism are available.
Let's list them. Today, paper money has died in some countries. They were replaced by electronic money. And this means that technical money has died, but political economic money has not died. They live very well, although now money is just a spark in the computer. There is no material shell.
Theorem 1. The death of technical money means that the basis for the destruction of political economic money is already ready. And this means that communism is ripe.
Theorem 2. The Internet is the basis for the birth of the COLLECTIVE MIND of the whole planet. And we already see that this collective mind is powerful, that it can function without money.
According to Marx, under communism, the brains of billions of people will unite into one great COLLECTIVE BRAIN. But the base for creating such a brain is already ready. And this is the Internet. And the collective brain is already working. This wonderful community is the birth of the collective brain of humanity. And this means that communism is ripe.
Theorem 3. According to Hegel, dialectics will be born under communism, and dialectics is the science of a variable world. Under communism, everything will be dialectical, that is, variable, that is, alive.
Definition. A political economic nationality is a nationality by education. You know two languages and love the history of these peoples. And this means that you have two political economic nationalities. Such a political economic nationality will be variable. After all, tomorrow you will learn another language and love the history of another amazing people.
So, the political economic nationality is variable, that is, dialectical, that is, alive. And all this was predicted by the great Hegel. It was he who predicted that the time would come when dead metaphysical constructions would come to life. They will become variables, that is, dialectical.
This is the first example of the arrival of Hegel's dialectic on the planet Earth. And this means that communism is ripe.
Theorem 4. The destruction of money. Unconditional income. Experiments on the introduction of unconditional income are being conducted in many capitalist countries. Its essence is that each person is given a fixed amount of money. And it is obvious that unconditional income will sooner or later be introduced throughout Europe.
What does unconditional income mean? Unconditional income is not given for work, so it is not a measure of labor. Unconditional income is given to everyone the same, so it is no longer a measure of wealth.
So, in unconditional income, two functions of money – a measure of labor and a measure of wealth have died (partially). And this means that political economic money has died (partially) in unconditional income. That is, unconditional income is no longer money in the political economic sense of the word. So, the unconditional income is Marx's RECEIPTS (partially).
Conclusion. Capitalists are building communism themselves. And it's amazing that they build communism strictly according to Marx. They themselves carry out practical measures to destroy political economic money.
Conclusion 1. Communism is ripe.
Conclusion 2. The Marxists have fallen behind the capitalists! Marxists do not destroy money. There are no theoretical works, no practical measures.
Question. Why are capitalists engaged in building communism?
Answer. Money is parasites. Money circulation generates millions of parasites.
Question. When was Sparta defeated? Answer. When Sparta defeated Athena. A lot of money flowed into Sparta. This money decomposed the leaders. And the idea of heroism disappeared. Sparta also disappeared. That is, the reason for the death of the great Sparta was the victory over Athens.
Question. When and why was the USSR defeated? The USSR withstood the most terrible war in the history of mankind. And he didn't die.
Under Stalin, they lived poorly. The amount of money and goods was small. And the money could be controlled with the help of punitive bodies.
But under Brezhnev they began to live well. The volume of goods has increased. But alas, the amount of money has also grown greatly. And money decomposed both the party and the state. And Marx was right again. But Marx is always right.
Marx's theorem. The axiom of Marxism.
Money is a terrible universal force. Money cannot be controlled. Sooner or later, money itself will begin to control its controllers. Living money must be killed and turned into dead Marx receipts.
Remark. It is not the people, not even the new Russian bourgeoisie, who are to blame for the death of the USSR. Money is to blame for the death of the USSR. And it is not people who should be punished, but money should be destroyed by turning them into dead Marx receipts.
Question. Why do capitalists themselves introduce elements of Marx's communism into life?
Answer. A cashless economy is the most economical, the cheapest.
Marx's theory of communism. Communism is a global community, that is, a world with total equality of people.
Equality in food, in apartments, in salaries, in the living conditions of children, in treatment, in recreation.
Equality in life, equality in death, equality after death.
Question. Unconditional income is the same for all people. That is, the capitalists themselves are building EQUALITY, that is, they are building communism, albeit partially. Why?
Answer. And the capitalists undertook to abolish the state, albeit partially. Yes, yes, it is.
Why is the idea of EQUALITY of people important for capitalists in unconditional income?
Answer. Option 1. Let the unconditional income be 500 euros. Everyone is the same, exactly 500 euros. Equality.
Option 2. Inequality. Let the unconditional income be 501 euros for some people, and 499 euros for other people. There seems to be no difference between option 1 and option 2.
But there is a difference and it is very big. In the first variant, officials are not needed, but one computer is needed for the whole country. And this computer will charge all people an unconditional income of 500 euros. And if officials are not needed, then the state is not needed either. Or in any case, there will be much fewer officials.
Marx's theorem. The state is a parasite that is not necessary for the functioning of production. According to Marx, there will be a production management system under communism, but it will be different than under socialism.
Results. With the help of unconditional income based on the equality of people, capitalists are building communism according to Marx. They reduce officials, that is, they are engaged in the abolition of the state (partially).
And why? Officials devour a lot of money and slow down the development of society.
Let's discuss option 2.
Option 2. Inequality. Let the unconditional income be 501 euros for some people, and 499 euros for other people. There seems to be no difference between option 1 and option 2.
With option 2, that is, with inequality, an official is needed who will decide who to give 501 euros and who 499. In addition, people will sit in queues and humiliatingly beg for benefits. Officials will steal.
Communism is ripe
Capitalists are engaged in introducing elements of communism into capitalism. And it is. They are engaged in
1) destruction of money (partially)
2) the introduction of equality of people (partially).
3) The abolition of officials (state) partially.
And what are our alleged Marxists doing? Nothing. They don't do
  1. The destruction of money. (Marx)
  2. The problem of real equality. (Marx)
  3. The abolition of officials (state). (Marx)
The Marxists abandoned communism (not socialism) and Marx. This is the reason for our defeat. You won't hear great words like real EQUALITY, real BROTHERHOOD from them.
Long live the Global Commune! Long live Hegel, the great leader of communism, Leader No. 1. Communism (not socialism) will win!
I wrote the book "Marx's Capital is Thermodynamics". The book contains Marx's mathematical model of Capital and Hegel's mathematical model of dialectics"
It turned out that Hegel created the theory of communism. Moreover, Hegel pointed the way to the peaceful victory of communism. The second half of the book is humanitarian. It details Hegel's plan for the peaceful victory of communism. And the main reason for the peaceful victory is that the theory of communism is much more powerful than the socialist idea.

2023.03.24 23:49 bikingfencer Romans: introduction and chapter one

Please adopt our rescue cat
This is Muffin. She's sweetie and she's very skiddish. She's about a year old and in great health. We rescued her from a vet clinic in Klamath Falls where she was dropped off as a stray to be euthanized. Our friend why worked a relief shift kept her since she was so sweet and healthy.
We absolutely love her and would keep her, bit she doesn't want to get along with our other cat, which we just adopted in October. They keep hissing, swatting, and doing the death stares. It's been two months and little improvement in their relationship.
Muffin is very shy at first and will hide under furniture, but when she comes out she is very lovable. She loves her back scratches and tummy rubs. Occasionally she gets playful and chases the toy on the string.
We don't think she would get along with other pets, especially female cats. She seems territorial and will chase our other kitty away from us if given the chance. She is box trained and has all her shots. We think she's fixed since she hasn't gone into heat at all during our care or the vet's care, but would encourage having her checked to be certain
If you're looking for a sweet lovable first cat, Muffin would love to come warm your heart and lap. Please help us find her a home and not have to bring her to the humane society shelter. She probably won't do as well there as she will in a loving home. We can provide all the supplies you'll need and won't ask a cent in return other than a promise you'll love her as much as we do.
Reply or DM for details.

2023.03.24 23:36 No_Investment_1340 College Junior with no work experience, good grades, and NSLS member trying to make my first resume for a summer internship for finance.

Hey guys! As title says I'm trying to make my first resume and have no idea where to begin. I'm currently trying to find an internship over the summer for something in the finance field. I've got a 3.54 gpa, as well as a member of the National Society of Leadership and success. For extracurricular activities I spend most of my time with the Club tennis team here on campus.
My main problem is trying to decide what I should put on my resume. For example, I doordash whenever I have free time. I don't really know if I should put that on my resume because I understand it isn't exactly viewed as a "real job," and if I did, I'm not too sure what skills I would have learned other than basic customer interaction that would apply to a finance internship.
Similarly, I got funded for an online prop trading firm. I have been trading and keeping up with the financial world since 2020, and it is ultimately the passion I had for it that made me switch my degree from Mech Eng to Finance. It has taught me tons about the financial world and stock market and also has taught me about discipline, patience, as well as taking responsibility for my actions and decisions. However, I struggle to put it on my resume because I think day trading again isn't viewed as real job experience (understandably), and with the rise of WSB I feel like I could be cast off as some degenerate gambler.
Overall I'm just not sure how to make my self stand out among other applicants.
