2023.05.29 16:27 lost_panties Research participants needed! Study on Experiences of self-harm in autistic women (UK, age 25+)
CW: mentions of self-harm Hello, I am part of a group conducting a study for our Psychology Masters at the University of Edinburgh. The study aims to explore experiences of self-harm and service provision amongst adult autistic women in recovery. I am an autistic person and I have helped design the aims and methods of this study. I am helping to monitor the safety standards of this study, however, there are (not to my knowledge) any autistics / NDs on the external monitoring team. Only myself and my research team will be involved in analysis. We have been offered assistance with debrief space by the Scottish Women's Autistic Network (SWAN). There is no compensation for this study. Our supervisor has previously worked in / published autism research. (Here is a link to her previous publications
https://www.ed.ac.uk/profile/dr-ewelina-rydzewska ).
This study has received ethical approval by the University of Edinburgh and is supervised by Dr Ewelina Rydzewska ( [
[email protected]](mailto:
[email protected]) ).
We would appreciate your participation in this study if you meet the following criteria:
Cisgender woman
Clinical or self-diagnosed autism without a learning disability
Over 25 years old
History of self-harm within the past 10 years
No engagement in self-harm for at least the last 12 months
Have ever accessed or attempted to access services for self-harm in the UK
Participation will involve a strictly confidential interview of up to 90 minutes with questions relating to your experience of self-harm and service provision from your perspective as an autistic woman. This can be in person or online, depending on your preference. Participants can withdraw their consent up to 14 days after the interview.
If you are interested or have any questions, please get in touch with us by email: [

Full briefing, participant information, and consent documents will be provided over email upon statement of interest, but here is a brief description of what participation entails.
Participant information and consent:
You are not required to participate in this study.
You will be asked a number of questions regarding your experiences of self-harm, your interactions and communication with services and your opinion on how much these services met your needs. The interview will take place at a time that is convenient to you and you can choose whether you’d prefer to speak over Teams or in person. Please let us know of any adjustments we can make that you might find helpful. Ideally, we would like to audio record your responses (and will require your consent for this), so the location should be in a quiet area. You will also complete a short demographic questionnaire about age, gender, ethnicity, occupation and current post environment (e.g., community, inpatient, etc.).

2023.05.29 16:07 Dacxi Why AI and Tokenization will lead the Way during the next crypto bull run
| Source: cryptonomist Like any cyclical market, another crypto bull run is on the horizon. Exactly when it will arrive is hard to tell, but analysts estimate it could happen by late 2023 or early 2024 In Web3, the bear markets are a time to build and innovate, and the quiet surrounding them tends to breed ingenuity and creativity. This bear market has been no different. Within this bear market period, two new tech sectors are paving the way to lead the next crypto bull run: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and tokenization. Social Media has already accepted that AI is going to change everything. AI applications already range from natural language processing (NLP), speech recognition, machine learning and generative AI, to name just a few. In the first half of this year, applications of AI-generated text and images from the chatbot ChatGPT and the text-to-image software Dall-E from OpenAI have taken the world by storm. While both such software does not use cryptocurrencies or blockchain, the hype around these apps has catapulted crypto traders to bet on crypto AI projects and AI-focused tokens as the next area of exponential growth. The great potential of AI and tokenization combined Tokenization refers to converting real-world assets into digital tokens on the blockchain. This enables fractional ownership, increased liquidity, and easier transferability of traditionally illiquid assets such as real estate, art or commodities. The disruptive aspect of tokenization is something many people and businesses have yet to grasp fully. Still, its impacts could be just as momentous as AI. Its potential to transform the global economy is both fantastic and terrifying. AI and cryptocurrency didn’t take long to ally themselves through AI crypto tokens. This new digital asset class uses blockchain technology and AI together. They fuel AI-based projects or apps, such as decentralized exchanges or markets, services for creating images or texts or investment protocols based on AI. Compared to cryptocurrencies like BTC or ETH, which are the native assets of a blockchain, AI tokens are created as part of a platform built on an existing blockchain network. AI algorithms have the potential to significantly enhance the security of crypto tokens by detecting anomalies or predicting potential threats before they occur and make real-time adjustments. This can help investors and traders mitigate risks during periods of volatility and even save enterprises millions of dollars in damages and lost revenue due to data breaches. In addition to security, crypto traders can benefit from AI-powered algorithms that enable enhanced trading strategies. Compared to humans, AI can analyze large volumes of data much quicker and identify patterns and trends in cryptocurrency markets — from token prices to social media sentiment and news articles. This facilitates traders to develop more sophisticated and profitable trading strategies, potentially leading to increased market efficiency. AI can also enhance DeFi lending and borrowing platforms by providing more accurate risk assessment models, optimizing liquidity provision and automating various processes. While AI can now process, optimize, and handle a human-like approach to problem-solving and processes at terrific scales. Tokenization can provide the infrastructure to remove the limitations of trading previously illiquid assets. The historical issue with valuable assets, be it gold, silver, gems, property, bonds or fine art, has always been finding a buyer. It is not that people didn’t want the item; it was just difficult to find someone who could afford it; this can be a lengthy process through traditional methods. Tokenization removes this problem and fractionalizes it, meaning anyone can buy a piece of a valuable asset for a relatively small investment within minutes on both centralized and decentralized exchanges; gone are the days of a lengthy buying process. We have only just begun to understand the actual impacts AI and tokenization will have on the world. Various factors, including regulatory changes, technological advancements, and investor sentiment, still influence the market, and these safeguards are likely to be needed further down the road. For many, an interconnected and instantaneous world of AI and tokenized assets sounds like something from a high-science fiction book. However, people within the crypto community recognize the long-term opportunity of investments in both areas; what better time to test this theory than in the next crypto bull market? 2023.05.29 15:42 chesthetica Chess Problem 03917 (KQBB vs kqrbp, #3)
| Consider this 'KQBB vs kqrbp' mate in three chess problem generated autonomously by Chesthetica using the Digital Synaptic Neural Substrate (DSNS) computational creativity approach. It doesn't use endgame tablebases, neural networks or any kind of machine learning found in traditional AI. Incidentally, this is also a 'mutual mate' problem (more generally known as a 'duplex'). That means if Black were to play, it is also a forced mate in the same number of moves. They are quite rare in direct mates. The solvability estimate applies only to White's solution. There is also no proven limit to the quantity or type of legal compositions that can be automatically generated. White (or Black) to Play and Mate in 3 Chesthetica v12.64 (Selangor, Malaysia). Generated on 10 Nov 2022 at 2:58:02 AM. FEN: 8/1r6/1q6/3B4/k1p5/8/3B4/1Q1K1b2 w - - 0 1. Solvability Estimate = Difficult. Even with the same version number, each copy of Chesthetica 'evolves' and may perform somewhat differently over time. Chesthetica composes everything autonomously (no human intervention) and even chooses the main line of the solution to show you. Try to solve this puzzle. Do try some of the others in the series as well before you go. Take some time to study the analysis and you might appreciate the puzzle a little more. 2023.05.29 15:41 CharacterOpening1924 Friendship Challenge
I have been avoiding processing this and taking action on this and I would really appreciate advice related to this poor behavior towards my friend. I last saw this friend in early March- we had a wonderful time hanging out, taking a walk, and going out to eat. Ever since I have been expertly and incredibly rudely just avoiding her like the plague. I always make excuses like I am so grateful for this friendship and I don’t want to lose you but I feel unwell I’m busy with work I have family obligations I’m tired etc when she asks if I want to hang out. I also don’t take her calls any more because I am not strong enough to say that over a call- I can only say it over text (cowardly yea). When we have gotten together in the past she always is like we should do A, B, C, D, X, Y,Z - usually related to either joining a workout group, going for a run, going to the gym, going rock climbing, going to a gala for her work, going to a speaker, going to a networking event. Another thing is she may ask if I want to plan to do something in advance but idk how I will be feeling that day or if I will have enough energy for said activity but also like I don’t want to spontaneously plan something when I’m feeling good b/c nerves or other various things. Also she always is taking about self improvement and I think wanted me to be a self improvement partner. I have in no way been a perfect friend to her - I like vented about really negative experiences in my life to like prove the point that I felt she didn’t understand my life - if an outsider were to look at her vs me I have a lot of privilege that can be identified just by looking at me ( aka I’m white and my family has resources). Also I wasn’t a good friend in that I would go hang out with her becuase i felt like she was the only friend I had during a time when I felt incredibly depressed and isolated due to my job. Now that I have a better fitting job that does not cause depression and isolation I have started avoiding her. She told me she was tired of me being like yes let’s hang out I love you and would hate to loose you and then canceling at the last minute because I feel shitty/ don’t have the energy for socialization ans then avoid her calls. I understand I’m a horrible friend to her- and acknowledging that kinda makes me want to avoid her more out of shame.
So - does anyone have any similar experiences? Is this friendship salvageable? (Also other price of context- we were friends in high school, lost touch in college, then reconnected maybe a year ago which brings us to this post)
Also I understand this is related to boundaries - I have a hunch that I did not have any boundaries with her when we reconnected about a year ago and did eveything she wanted to do and I probably which caused me to act how I’m acting now But I also am not sure if that is everything b/c that feels like I’m avoiding responsibility for being an incredibly horrible friend. So last I guess - how do I practice and learn boundaries? I SUCK at boundaries - this one girl at work literally asked me to tie her shoes multiple times and now I’m worried that is the like gateway to her taking full advantage of me

2023.05.29 15:33 YuryNB I built an AI tool designed to help in getting raises and promotions - Thoughts?
I've seen a problem firsthand in my circle of friends that I suspect many others face too.
Some of the most talented people I know often hold themselves back at key moments in their professional journey due to lack of confidence, shyness, or uncertainty about how to approach sensitive situations like asking for a raise, negotiating salaries, or stepping up for a promotion.
Often, they think that their hard work alone will be noticed and rewarded accordingly, without needing to make the direct ask. But let's be real, we all know it seldom happens that way. This hesitation can end up costing a significant amount of money and missed career opportunities over time.
I made a series of AI tools to help maximize your chances at all stages of your career - job search, interviewing, negotiating, promotions, etc:
- Resumes & Cover Letters: Craft standout job application materials.
- Leveraging Social Media: Use platforms like LinkedIn to expand your network.
- Interview Prep: Generate answers to common questions and learn how to inquire about salary professionally.
- Negotiating better terms: Negotiate your salary and confidently ask for raises and promotions.
- Networking: Expand your professional connections.
- Professional Communication: Draft requests for flexible work conditions, professionally call in sick, or even write a resignation letter.
It's a first version I'd love your feedback on these tools and the whole concept. Here's the link (it's free):

2023.05.29 15:22 pro_memory_maker Seeking Job Application Advice for a US Non-Citizen with a Ticking Clock
TL;DR need advice on the job search optimization problem of getting hired quickly without compromising too much.
I recently got laid off by my employer, and time is not on my side. Unfortunately, I didn't manage my time efficiently in the beginning, and ended up burning through* a couple of weeks in wrapping up administrative formalities, securing insurance, and exploring options to pause the clock (to no avail). Now, I only have around 40 days left before I lose my immigration status.
I'm urgently looking for opportunities as an Applied/Data/Research Scientist or Machine Learning EngineeResearcher, or related roles that require a Master's degree plus two to three years of experience. I hold a Master's degree from a prestigious MSDS program and have gained a diverse range of internship and work experiences, including at academic and tech R&D labs, non-profits, and early-stage startups. Over the past seven years, I have focused on Al/CV/DL/DS/ML/NLP, with all my coursework, projects, publications, and work experience aligned with these domains. However, I lack full-time work experience with a recognizable brand on my resume.
While I have a preference for the aforementioned roles, I am also open to positions like Business Analyst and Data Analyst/Engineer. I have confidence in my abilities to excel in rigorous interview loops, having performed well in the past (even though I declined the offers). However, given the time constraints, waiting for callbacks is not a luxury I can afford, especially considering that interview processes themselves can take up to a month.
Considering my situation, I understand the need to be flexible, but I'm trying to hold out a little longer without compromising on more than one of the following:
- Relocating
- Taking a pay cut
- Technical rigor (specifically in ML/Stats)
However, I’m well aware of my circumstances, and am no more than a week or so out on loosening my standards further. I have, also, thus far focused on quality rather than quantity in my job applications. By that I mean I tailor my resume specific to each role’s job description and strive to obtain referrals from my network to establish direct contact with hiring managers or recruiters. Alternatively, when applying through LinkedIn, I reach out to them directly to ensure greater likelihood of my resume being looked at by a pair of eyes, and general prompt attention to and review of my application. But I'm unsure if this approach is the most effective, and I'm considering shifting gears to mass cold applications using a generic resume (I have some strategies and scripts to assist me with that).
I would greatly appreciate any advice, thoughts, or insights that can assist me in my endeavor. Additionally, I would be grateful if you could spare some time to provide feedback on my base resume (please comment if you're so willing and I'll reach out to you via DM).
Thank you all for your support and guidance!

Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, prepare to be amazed because, in this guide, we will unravel the secrets of how to flip houses with no money and bad credit. Brace yourself for a journey that will challenge conventions, ignite your resourcefulness, and empower you to make profitable real estate investments. Get ready to discover the extraordinary possibilities that await as we delve into the art of flipping houses against all odds! Understanding The Real Estate Market Understanding the real estate market is crucial when learning about flipping houses with no money and bad credit. Researching Local Housing Market Trends Start by researching local housing market trends. Familiarize yourself with price fluctuations, neighborhood developments, and economic health. This will provide a solid foundation for your future investments and help you identify lucrative opportunities. Identifying Potential Undervalued Properties Next, develop an eye for spotting undervalued properties. These properties, often overlooked by others, can yield substantial profit margins when flipped. Use your market knowledge to find these hidden gems. Developing A Strategy For Flipping Houses Finally, devise a robust flipping strategy. This should include cost estimates, timelines, and a plan to handle potential market shifts. A well-thought-out strategy is your roadmap to successful house flipping. Building A Network Of Investors Building a network of investors is an integral part of flipping houses with no money and bad credit. Connecting With Potential Investors Begin by connecting with potential investors. Your credibility and shared vision can attract like-minded individuals who are interested in your venture. Explaining Your Strategy And Vision For Flipping Houses Clearly present your flipping strategy and vision to potential investors. Ensure they understand your plan and its potential for high returns. Creating Partnerships To Secure Funding Lastly, form partnerships to secure funding. By demonstrating your expertise and potential for profit, you can foster trust and secure the necessary investment. Finding A Motivated Seller Finding a motivated seller is another important step in the process of flipping houses with no money and bad credit. Identifying Sellers Who Are Willing To Sell Below Market Value Seek out sellers willing to sell their properties below market value. This could be due to a variety of reasons, such as financial distress or a need to relocate quickly. Building Rapport With The Seller Establish a strong rapport with sellers. A good relationship can lead to more favorable deal conditions and repeat business opportunities. Negotiating A Favorable Deal Master negotiation skills to secure the best possible deals. The lower your purchase price, the higher your potential profit. Renovating The Property Renovating the property is the final step in discovering how to flip houses with no money and bad credit. Creating A Budget For The Renovations First, create a detailed budget for the renovations. Keep costs low but don’t compromise on quality, as this is key to a profitable flip. Hiring Contractors Or Doing Some Work Yourself Consider hiring contractors for large jobs while taking on smaller tasks yourself. This can help control costs and ensure a quality finish. Choosing Renovations That Will Increase The Value Of The Property Finally, choose renovations that significantly increase the property’s value. This strategic decision can boost your return on investment, making your venture successful despite having no money and bad credit. Listing And Selling The Property Staging The Property For Potential Buyers The magic of a successful flip truly comes alive with impeccable staging. Transform your renovated property into a warm, inviting space that potential buyers can envision as their own. Think of it as setting the stage for a show – your property is the star, and the goal is to make buyers fall in love at first sight. Hiring A Real Estate Agent Or Selling The Property Yourself Next comes the decision to either hire a real estate agent or take the reins into your own hands. A skilled agent can navigate the market, negotiate effectively, and help you secure a profitable deal. However, if you’re confident in your abilities and possess the time, selling the property yourself can save you the commission fee. Closing The Sale And Collecting Your Profits Finally, the moment of triumph – closing the sale and collecting your profits. This is the culmination of your hard work, a testament to your strategy, and the ultimate reward for learning how to flip houses with no money and bad credit. Remember, each sale not only brings profit but also invaluable experience, preparing you for your next house-flipping adventure. FAQs 1. Is It Really Possible To Flip Houses With No Money And Bad Credit? Absolutely, flipping houses with no money and bad credit is challenging but feasible. It involves leveraging other people’s money, via investor partnerships or hard money loans. Success hinges on a solid understanding of the real estate market, effective negotiation skills, and a robust network. 2. How Do I Determine The Right Price To Sell The Property? Setting the right selling price involves comparing similar local properties, factoring in your investment costs, and considering your desired profit. Consulting a real estate agent or appraiser can provide valuable insights for appropriate pricing. Conclusion In conclusion, flipping houses with no money and bad credit may seem daunting, but with strategic planning, astute decision-making, and a robust network, it is achievable. By understanding the real estate market, securing funding, finding motivated sellers, and executing effective renovations, you can transform undervalued properties into profitable investments. CW: mentions of self-harm Hello, I am part of a group conducting a study for our Psychology Masters at the University of Edinburgh.
