2023.03.25 01:17 Busy_Animator_9000 Did 4 interviews to be told they wouldn't be able to meet the salary expectorations they set

Wasn't even looking to change jobs but had a corporate recruiter reach out via LinkedIn.
Recruiter told me job range was 90k-110k with flexibility since they were struggling to fill the role, which I said was in line with what I would expect but I would need 110k-115k. The recruiter said that would be fine seeing how I was perfectly qualified for the role. Did 4 interviews all about one hour, had to take time off from my current job, kick the kids out of the house to get a quiet setting and spend all the time in prep for the interview. Get glowing reviews after every interview from the recruiter. After the final interview get a call from the recruiter and all he says is he can't meet my salary requirements. He initially wouldn't even tell me what the offer would be but finally admits the max offer for the position is 100k. He goes on to admit that he thought I might accept less since he thought I was interested in the position. WTF.

2023.03.25 01:15 Jordansdfg Worried I Might Be a Homewrecker

so the title sounds crazy but bear with me. i (21M) am friends with this guy (20M) and we are both part of a large friend group. this guy and i both go to the same college and live near each other, and everyone in our friend group all have a shared identity, so we all navigate a lot of the same spaces and are just in contact a lot so we kinda all kinda just became friends. it’s been a running joke that this friend and i are gonna hook up and are secret lovers or something, and while we were running with the joke at first, i’m afraid that it’s gonna grow into something more.
over the winter break, he began dating a girl also in the group, but lately, the jokes have become a lot more serious feeling. we make a lot of jokes with each other but lately they grown more frequent and are more specific in the nature of the sexual act the joke is about, like it went from like oh you guys want each other, to how that would happen, and we just look at each other a lot, sometimes i catch him staring when i’m not, and i’m afraid.
i’m afraid that one day, we’ll cross a line and make a mistake. i get butterflies around him and the air is just different as of late, but i can’t do that. his girlfriend is my friend and i can’t do that to her, but i also feel like it’ll make everyone think bad of me.
unfortunately this exact scenario went down with another girl i was friends with, and even if she was the one who initiated it i’m still terrified it’ll happen with him, ruin the friend group, and everyone will look at that event and look at this (hypothetical) event and then people won’t trust me bc i’ll just be seen as a homewrecker.
i feel like distance would be best to prevent this, but i like him as a friend, and beyond that distancing myself would just raise questions from others in the group. part of me thinks it’s in my head, but what if it is true? if it’s not in my head, it could happen if i don’t distance myself, but if it’s not true and i distance myself, i’ll have to explain why and everyone will think i’m conceited or crazy for thinking that, and even if i didn’t do anything i feel like his girlfriend will still grow to not trust me if she found out. what do i do???

Supervisor Durio arrived at the Mounteque sixty-eight minutes after Carnen gave Kemp his ultimatum.
The delay wasn’t Kemp’s fault. She requested an off-the-record debriefing using their cover identity as Ministry of Security agents, the same method she’d first contacted him. Durio agreed and approved a priority docking request at a private airlock reserved for admins and VIPs. He wiped the evidence and then came aboard the ship later than promised.
Carnen got the feeling that was done on purpose but brushed it aside. Durio was in for a surprise if he thought power games would have an effect on the operative teams.
Eptus greeted the supervisor. His pretentious expression broadcast his noble lineage. He offered an excuse but no apology. “I was delayed by bickering captains about to ram each other over who was ahead in the docking queue.”
“I understand, supervisor. Please, follow me,” Eptus said in a measured voice which meant he thought Durio’s answer was bullshit.
While Eptus escorted the supervisor aboard, Warden team waited in the main bay, the cam stream from the interrogation compartment on a display. The converted interior hold now contained a bare table and a chair on either side.
Carnen watched Kemp as she worked on her datapad. She’d shared the intelligence file on Durio while they waited for the Mounteque to dock. Stevson sat in a chair and rested his feet on top of a container, eager to watch what should be an interesting debriefing.
“Durio's from one of the minor noble houses,” Carnen said to Kemp. “According to this report, they have wealth and prestige, but no hope of ever competing for the Imperatrix seat. But that changes if the charter passes and the old guard is phased out. How did you get him to do something that benefitted his political enemy?”
Kemp offered him a self-assured smile. “There is no greater motivation than one’s own beliefs.”
On the display, Eptus led Durio into the interrogation compartment. The operations supervisor stepped inside, walking in the proper posture and measured gait of his noble lineage. He took in the bare room with an air of displeasure, as if it were beneath his presence.
“Please, have a seat,” Eptus said. Durio sat on the table’s far side, Eptus sitting across from him.
“We appreciate your willingness to expedite our request,” Eptus said.
“I would hope so. I put my career on the line in doing what was asked of me to protect the Provenance. I thought you would’ve rushed away from here after retrieving the,” he paused, lowering his voice like he was whispering a secret, “agitators. They cause a commotion wherever they appear, riling up the commoners with their fiery rhetoric.”
“Here’s the problem, Supervisor,” Eptus said. “They weren’t in the container you instructed us to collect.” He opened an image of the container’s interior on the table display.
Durio peered down at it. If he faked a confused expression, he did a fine job of selling it. “A waste recycler? I don’t understand. I saw the transfer pod go into that container. The singers were in it.”
“How can you be certain it was them?”
“Because three female Pree exited Zellis’s theater via the maintenance tunnels and rode a transport pod to whose destination was a reserved luxury suite. It’s not channel science, Supervisor. I watched them board the pod, set it for a maintenance appointment, and locked it down. Here is the proof.” He squinted, sharing a vid to the display. Cam footage of the singers entering the pod. Warden team saw it too, a window on their wall display mirroring what was on the table in the room with Eptus and Durio.
Carnen saw no reason why it couldn’t be the singers. The females looked fit and moved with grace.
“If that is them, the Mystery Man wasn’t with them,” Kemp observed.
“Maybe they fired him after the show. I think he screwed up a few times,” Stevson said. Carnen peered at the pilot. He shrugged. “I told you, I like their music. I’ve seen enough media to know that there were a few choreography mistakes.”
Kemp looked down at him over her datapad. “Should I be concerned that your admiration is a conflict of interest?”
Stevson snorted like the question was ridiculous. “Of course not. They don’t pay me. Kosmogenic does.”
“There are only three explanations,” Eptus went on, drawing Carnen’s attention back to the display. “Either you made a mistake, you swapped the container out on purpose, or someone else swapped the container.“
Durio’s face hardened with indignation. “I didn’t make a mistake or try to deceive you. How dare you chastise me after all that I risked in carrying out this scheme—”
“Let him speak,” Kemp said to Eptus over a comm. The Warden team leader sat there and absorbed the verbal barrage from Durio.
Kemp peered down at her datapad, studying something intently before tapping on the device. Carnen noticed Durio begin to struggle to find his words, his face rippling with emotion. His rant sputtered to a halt. He peered around the room as if disassociating from the conversation.
“Supervisor?” Eptus asked after a stretch of silence.
Durio, now calm and collected, reengaged with Eptus. “I did as you asked. There were no mistakes, I assure you. Someone else must have switched the container before you loaded it. We can check the security cams.”
On the display, a new POV loaded; a wide-angle perspective of the berth holding the container with the transfer pod inside. Durio fast-forwarded through the vid. Tugs, ships, and containers zoomed past. He paused when a tug arrived at the berth. He played it at normal speed. The tug removed the container and delivered it to a freighter that had slipped into the top portion of the POV. The tug returned a minute later clutching a different container and placing it in the berth.
“Damn the Spirits! Someone swapped the container,” Durio said.
“We need to know who,” Eptus said.
“Give me a moment,” Durio said, face twitching. “According to the logs, the container you received was the correct one. Obviously, someone altered them.”
“Who could’ve done this?”
“Fraenk, the other operations supervisor. I never would’ve guessed he had the mental capacity to pull it off.” Durio straightened as he thought of something. “Fraenk brought people into operations for a bit. He said they were hauler friends, and he was giving them a tour.”
“We need to talk to this Fraenk. Can you summon him here?”
“He finished a double. He won’t be happy about this.”
“You’re chief supervisor. Why do you care?”
Durio paused as he opened a comm to the other supervisor. “You haven’t met Fraenk.”
***
Fraenk arrived twenty minutes later looking like he’d been roused from a deep sleep. The hulking Manore stopped outside the airlock hatch, waiting for someone to open it.
Eptus and one other Sentinel operative greeted him. “Supervisor Fraenk, thank you for coming. If you’ll follow me,” Eptus said.
Fraenk eyed the ship’s interior with suspicion. “I’m not going anywhere until you tell me what the hell this is about. Where’s Durio? Why aren’t we meeting in Sanctum operations center?”
“This concerns a sensitive Ministry of Security matter that we wish to discuss with you and Supervisor Durio. Come with me, please.”
“Is your translator module working? I said I’m not going anywhere until—“
Carnen stepped into view from the side of the Mounteque’s airlock. “Time to come aboard, supervisor. And don’t even bother with your PD. It’s not going to work.”
Fraenk’s expression flickered with concern as he gazed at Carnen, no doubt confirming his lack of access to the station hub. “What’s a Human doing with the Pree Ministry of Security?”
“I'm here to corral supervisors who don't follow orders.”
Fraenk didn’t move. Carnen drew a stunner. The Manner supervisor saw the deadly serious expression in the operative’s eyes and stepped into the Mounteque’s airlock.
***
Fraenk sat on the table’s far side in the hot seat where Durio had been a short time ago. Durio was seated in the opposite chair, hands clasped, his expression the scolding glower of a professor who’d caught a student cheating.
Kemp and Stevson observed from the main hold with the rest of Sentinel team, but Carnen picked a front-row seat in the interrogation hold. He had a feeling Fraenk wouldn’t be cooperative based on Durio's opinion. Fraenk had a long career as a hauler and wasn’t some admin stooge who’d never gotten his hands dirty. Durio and even Eptus would only go so far to get the information the ops teams needed. Carnen would take it further when the time came.
Standing at the desk, Eptus placed a datapad with his credentials in front of Fraenk. “I’m Security Supervisor Eptus, team leader for the Ministry of Security.”
Fraenk shrugged, not bothering to look. “This doesn’t mean anything. Can’t validate it without hub access.”
“This will have to do.” Eptus gave Fraenk a chance to read it. When he passed, Eptus lifted the datapad and placed it in a receptacle along the wall.
“What about him?” Fraenk said, nodding at Carnen.
“He’s a contractor serving in a confidential capacity. That is all I can say.”
Fraenk’s visage flickered between anger and fear. He narrowed his eyes at Carnen. “I know a spook when I see one. Let’s get this over with so I can go back to my bunk.”
Fraenk was sharper than Carnen thought. He further doubted Eptus could scare the ops supervisor into talking.
“How long this takes depends on how cooperative you are,” Eptus said. “We know you swapped containers in one of the berths on the C-4 arm and modified the logs to cover it up. We know your friends who you brought into your office asked you to track it down.“
Fraenk gave Eptus a challenging stare. “Show me the proof or stop wasting my time.”
The Sentinel team supervisor returned Fraenk's hardened gaze. “This concerns a vital security matter my team is investigating. I urge you to cooperate.”
“If you help us, I promise to do my best to lessen any punishment that may result from your actions,” Durio added with that air of elitism Carnen found admins tended to have.
Fraenk regarded his counterpart, then let out a deep, cynical laugh. “You’re so full of shit, Durio. You may be the senior ops supervisor, but that doesn’t mean you can boss me around like I’m some level-one tech. Unless you’re filing a formal complaint, you’d better drop this. I’m not saying anything else without a lawyer.”
“I’ll file a complaint if I have to,” Durio threatened.
“No, you won’t, because if you do, there’ll be a Commonwealth Commerce Department investigation per the stipulations in my contract. Which means, if I did supposedly swap the containers, they’ll want to know why, including what was in them.” Fraenk cocked his head at Durio. “Something tells me that you wouldn’t want them to find out.”
“So you admit to knowing what was in the container?” Eptus said, trying to regain control of the conversation.
“I admit nothing. If there are no more stupid questions, then I’m going back to my bunk.”
Carnen stepped away from the hatch to the side of the table, looming over Fraenk. “Let’s cut the shit, Fraenk. You swapped the containers and gave the singers to your hauler friends. We want the name of their ship.”
Durio made a face like he was stupefied that Carnen had said as much. But the chief supervisor failed to understand what was needed to get what they wanted from Fraenk.
At the demand, Fraenk arched his eyebrows innocently. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Carnen repeated the question. Fraenk leaned forward, close enough for Carnen to smell his alcohol-tinged breath. “Oh, I remember now. It was something like Her Royal Majesty’s Go Fuck Yourself.”
Carnen drew his stunner.
Fraenk glanced at it, then back to Carnen. “If you think—“
The operative jabbed the stunner into Fraenk’s chest. The supervisor yelped and pushed back, almost tipping his chair as he cursed. Carnen had set it too low, enough to hurt like hell but not incapacitate.
Durio stood from his chair, a terrified expression on his face. “That was uncalled for!”
Fraenk slowly got to his feet, rising a full head above Carnen. “Why don’t you put your toy down and we’ll see how tough you are?” he sneered.
Carnen deactivated and locked the stunner then tossed it to Eptus. He was caught off guard and almost dropped it.
Over Durio’s protest, Fraenk raised his fists and stepped at Carnen.
The operative was ready for it and threw a kick into the side of Fraenk’s leading thigh, smacking the meaty part and dropping him to his knees. Carnen followed up with a punch to the Manore’s face. Fraenk toppled over backward, crashing to the deck. He groaned clutching his nose. Blood seeped between his fingers.
Carnen kicked Fraenk in the ribs, keeping him down. The operative then climbed onto Fraenk’s back and placed him in a chokehold. “I want the name of the ship.”
Fraenk cursed at Carnen, and he tightened his grip. Eptus shifted but kept quiet. Durio protested. “He’s a supervisor. You cannot do this!”
The operative ignored Durio and squeezed tighter. Fraenk pleaded, his voice barely audible. “Stardancer.”
Carnen let up a little and said to Durio, “Find that ship.”
The supervisor only mumbled an incoherent response.
“Kemp,” Carnen said, knowing she was watching.
Whatever she did appeared to work. Durio’s head twitched a bit, and his eyes regained focus. Carnen repeated the request. Durio said, “I have it. The freighter Stardancer was granted a commerce license a short while ago.” He projected the license to the wall display. “It’s scheduled to rendezvous with the ship Honest Day’s Work which is registered to a micro-corporation with a recovery agent license.”
“What’re they doing meeting with bounty hunters?” Stevson asked over their internal ship comm.
“According to the commerce license, the Honest Day’s Work will transfer a load of recovered assets.”
“I doubt Acculturation leadership is aboard the ship. What's so important for them to risk this transfer?” Carnen said.
“It could be more stolen material. We have no intel on this,” Eptus said.
“Plot it, Stevson,” Carnen said. He stood, leaving Fraenk in an exhausted heap on the deck.
The Tyrcellus map appeared on the table display. A curving intercept vector sliced through the system as Stevson plotted the ship’s course. “Assuming the Stardancer didn’t fuck around after they retrieved the singers, then they’re at minimum nine hours ahead of us. And assuming they head for a new destination immediately after the transfer, there’s a low chance we can intercept them.”
Carnen said to Durio, “What if we cancel the commerce license? Prevent the transfer?”
Fraenk cackled, having managed to push himself to a seated position. “Go ahead. That’s a Commonwealth-sponsored license. Canceling will raise a red flag at Sanctum and you’ll have Commerce Department goons up in your business.”
“He’s correct,” Durio said.
“Looks like you’re screwed,” Fraenk said. Everyone in the room turned in his direction. He gave them all a bloody smile.
Durio straightened with a fearful snap. “The Administrator is sending a comm request. Excuse me.” He scurried out of the compartment.
Fraenk shifted into his chair, groaning with each movement. Eptus opened a medkit mounted on the wall and passed a clotting wipe to him. Fraenk took it and held it to his nose.
“Show me the details on the Honest Day’s Work,” Carnen said. He stared at the data on the display, searching for a solution.
“My turn to offer you a deal,” Fraenk said. “As much as I want to beat you to a pulp, I’m willing to walk away from this. I want to keep my job, so you know I’ll keep my mouth shut. But if you don’t let me walk out of here right now, the next person the administrator will be talking to is me. If I’m going down, you’re all coming with me.”
Durio returned to the compartment, drawing everyone’s attention. His face was sunken like he’d seen a lost spirit come to terrorize him. Fear seeped into his voice as he spoke. “The administrator informed me that he spoke with Zellis, the owner of the theater. He is unable to contact the singers who performed at his venue and reported them missing. The administrator is very upset about this and wants the matter investigated immediately.”
“It wasn't me,” Fraenk said. He looked to his counterpart. Durio’s face somehow grew grimmer. “You had something to do with that, didn't you? Kidnapping citizens off Commonwealth-sponsored stations? That's bad news, Durio. not with the Commonwealth Diplomatic fleet heading this way. They won't take kindly to sentient rights violations. They're looking for any excuse to go after the Provenance.”
“No! I didn’t do anything wrong!” Durio said, voice cracking. He pointed at Eptus and Carnen. “They made me help them!” He bent at the waist, hands pressed to either side of his head. “I have to leave. I cannot be involved in this any longer.” He rushed to the hatch and slapped the panel, but Carnen had locked it already. Durio spun, coiled with indignation. “Let me out of here, immediately!”
“Kemp, he’s losing it. We can’t leave him here like this,” Carnen said into the inter-team comm.
“I’m working on it,” she answered.
“You’re running out of time.”
“You cannot leave yet, Supervisor,” Eptus said to Durio.
Fraenk grinned at the unfolding disaster. “You better let us go. Durio is screwed, but you spooks can save your asses.”
“Stevson, do we have departure clearance?” Carnen asked.
“Affirmative. It was granted before Supervisor Durio came aboard,” Stevson replied as the hatch opened. Carnen spun around as Durio stormed out. The Warden team leader glared at Eptus, who lowered his head in defeat.
“What the fuck are you doing?” Carnen growled.
“He is of noble lineage. We cannot detain him like this,” Eptus answered.
“Of course, you can. You have authority from the Imperatrix himself.” Carnen stormed into the passageway after Durio. The supervisor made it to the inner airlock hatch. Carnen re-engaged the lock over his PD. Durio slapped his hand repeatedly against the panel. “I demand that you open this hatch immediately!”
Eptus came up behind Carnen. “Let him go.”
Carnen ignored the Sentinel team supervisor. Over the ship comm, he said, “Last chance, Kemp.”
“I need more time to diagnose. Nothing I do works,” she answered.
“Supervisor Durio,” Carnen said in a measured voice. “I’ll open the hatch, but I need your help with one last thing with Fraenk. It will only take a minute, then I promise you’ll be done with us.”
The offer calmed Durio enough to end his fit. He faced Carnen. “One minute,” he said and marched back into the interrogation hold. Carnen followed him in.
“Let’s get this over with. I will not take the fall for whatever has happened here—“
“Wait—“ Eptus said as Carnen drew a palm-sized pistol and shot Durio in the back of the head at less than a meter. His head rocked forward as a bolt of superheated gas encased in an electromagnetic field punched through tissue and bone. The projectile dissipated upon impact, dumping its kinetic and thermal energy into the interior of the supervisor’s skull.
Durio toppled forward and slapped against the deck, mouth slightly agape, eyes lifeless.
The Sentinel team supervisor’s jaw clenched, his nasal slits quivering in rage. “You murdered a Pree of noble lineage!”
“Outside, now,” Carnen said and marched out of the compartment. Eptus followed. Behind Carnen, the rest of Sentinel and Warden teams entered the passageway from the main hold. Carnen faced Eptus. “I neutralized an asset gone haywire. Did you forget our mission?”
Eptus shifted as he wrestled with his emotions. The words came out with an angry bite. “To ensure the success of Project Fidelity in support of the Provenance.” He bristled. “You should’ve consulted with me before taking such drastic action.”
“I did what needed to be done. If you can’t handle that, then you should find another line of work.” Carnen faced Kemp. “Figure out what happened before this happens again.”
“I’ll investigate Supervisor Durio’s deviations,” she said with a bitter edge.
He stared at her a moment longer, then shifted his eyes to Stevson. “Set a course for the coordinates of the cargo exchange. We’ll dump the body en route.”
“The ships will be gone by the time we get there,” Eptus said.
“I’ll message the Honest Day’s Work. As Stevson said, they’re bounty hunters. Maybe we can work something out,” Carnen said and returned to the interrogation compartment.
Fraenk’s pale face eyed the dead body. With a resigned sigh, he said, “Guess I’m not going anywhere, am I?”
Caren pulled restraints from his belt and placed them on the table. “No, you’re not.”

2023.03.25 01:10 USAFThrowaway303 AITA for more-or-less forcing my veteran friend to open up about his worst experience in the military (his girlfriend is pissed at me)?

I know the title sounds awful, but I need people to hear the full story before they make any judgement.
Last weekend, I went out drinking with my friend, J. J and I are both Iraq War veterans; I was a Captain in the Air Force (as you can all tell by my username), while J was a Marine corporal. We met at a veteran get-together years after the war, and nowadays we play in a band together.
Our night out started with a lot of laughs, but after a few drinks, we got really sentimental and heartfelt about our military experiences. I opened up to him about some of the trauma that I had endured during the war. I'm not going to go into detail about it, but it did leave gaping mental wounds that I still struggle with to this day.
After I told my story, I goaded J and urged him to open up, vet-to-vet, about his worst moment in the military. J initially hesitated, but I won him over, and he shared his story. My goodness. Once again, due to the rules of this subreddit, I am not going to specify what exactly he said. All I can say is that his experiences were far worse than the worst things I have seen in uniform.
J eventually started crying, and at first I didn't know what to do, because this was the first time I've ever seen this tough, badass son of a bitch cry before. I told him, in a brotherly manner, to chin up. But that didn't help at all. J did stop crying soon, and we called it a night and headed home. I gave J a hug and a handshake before he got into his cab.
A few days later, I got a knock on my door. I opened it, and it was J's girlfriend. She was furious beyond belief. She told me that I crossed a line, a line that even she understands even though she's never served before. After yelling at me for what seemed like an eternity, she left. Before she got into her car, she very sarcastically, derisively told me "thank you for your service". I know I instigated this whole mess, but her disrespect offended me so much that I unfriended and blocked her on Facebook. She's just another bleeding-heart lefty who, like I said, has never served a day in uniform.
Am I the asshole?

[A Bargain for Bliss] — Chapter One (A sequel to The Fae Queen's Pet)
Now that I've concluded Reincarnated as the Wolf Goddess, the sequel to The Fae Queen's Pet is finally kicking off. Welcome to A Bargain for Bliss.
Book One
Synopsis: It's been a few months since Sierra Chelsi came to live in the Raven Queen's palace, and she's found herself more at home each day. But the queen has been busy working on something big. Her secrets are kept from even the young werewolf she ensnared. When the queen finally reveals her schemes, it's apparent something big is coming to the Raven Court. The only question is what role her beloved pet will play. The familiar fierce werewolf who threatens nobles at court so Varella can keep order. . . or perhaps something a little more tender.

Chapter One:
I heard her before she entered the room. Her footsteps were light as if the wind carried her feet across each piece of the floor. And sometimes it actually did. She used to sneak up on me, but in the three months I’d lived in Featherstone, the Raven Queen had fallen prey to my advanced predatory senses, the kind only a fierce huntress could cultivate.
My senses would never be as sharp as those of my inner wolf, but enough bled through that I was a better tracker than any human and most faeries.
Casually striding over to the window in my bedroom, I unlatched it and waited for the queen’s knock at my door. Two arrived. She was growing impatient.
Good, I thought. Just what I wanted.
I called for my mistress to enter, and she opened the door. I noticed Barsilla, her arrogant left-hand lady hovering just above the queen’s shoulder. That piskie had grown increasingly fed up with my antics as of late. At least, she made a big show of it.
Of course, when my eyes hovered over the queen, I felt my heart skip a beat. Eyes widening as though I was looking at her for the first time, I came within inches of dropping my plan entirely. Her otherworldly beauty held me in a trance, seven feet of alluring artistry from her sleek obsidian hair to her enrapturing violet eyes that held all the mysteries of a Faerie Queen seemingly within reach, daring all who saw to reach forward.
Her words floated across the room to my ears with all the confidence of a monarch who expected obedience and steadfast loyalty.
“Come, my pet. I’m scheduled to hold court in 10 minutes, and I need my fearsome beast.”
It took almost everything I had not to prance across the room and throw myself at her. The tiny fae hovering nearby had her usual pencil and clipboard out at the ready in case she needed to write down something important. Barsilla’s eyes practically said, “Do it. I dare you.”
But that was ridiculous. The piskie couldn’t have known what I was planning, right? I looked at her again in her tiny librarian outfit. And just staring at the representation of order and rules in the palace rekindled some spark of rebellion in my bratty ass.
“Apologies, mistress,” I said, not looking at Varella again because I knew her eyes would lure me in again, freezing me in my tracks.
“Don’t you dare,” was all I heard Barsilla say as I frantically slid the window open and leaped outside. The queen was fast, and I felt her grasp millimeters from my nape as I dove toward the palace grounds a few stories below.
Landing and immediately tucking into a roll, I exhaled. Then I rose with as much speed as I could leech from my inner wolf and bolted toward the back of Featherstone.
From the window, I heard my mistress’ low tenor voice carry a warning, “My pet. . .”
Those words sent a shiver down my spine, and I knew this was fucking with her schedule. But I didn’t care. You welcome a brat into your home, and you should be expected to anticipate the consequences.
I didn’t hear her leaping out the window after me, just the soft swish of wild rye grass under my feet as I bolted away from where I landed.
Will she endure the humiliation of being seen chasing down her pet werewolf, or will the mighty queen march herself to hold court without the fierce beast she’s grown so accustomed to wielding over her nobles and guests? I thought, snickering.
A few months ago when I’d arrived at Featherstone, freshly ensnared in a bargain of the queen’s making, I wouldn’t have dared acted this way. There were probably mice in the walls of the basement that were less timid than me.
But what can I say? The queen and her best intelligence agent had made me very comfortable here. They’d given the werewolf a cookie, and in turn, she’d not only stolen the entire glass of milk but the jar of remaining sweets as well.
Okay, normally I wasn’t this bad. But this week had been long, and restlessness was building up in every joint of my body. Maybe I was a little pissy. Or perhaps the full moon was three nights away.
Both things could be true, I thought, the rear guard tower coming into view as I rounded a corner.
It stood a few stories higher than my window with a narrow spiral staircase running up the center. A few faerie guards stood on the ground watching me bolt for the stone bridge behind the palace. They were armed with spears and leather armor bearing the queen’s crest in the center, a black bird, head back, beak open, and crying to the sky with its wings spread wide.
The guards looked nervously at each other as I continued running full speed in nothing but my silk pajamas with various puppy designs sewn into the fabric. My curly brown hair bounced behind me, and I realized the guards were calculating how much trouble they’d get in if I was allowed to simply cruise on by.
“Um. . . Sierra?” One woman with short green hair cut into a bob stammered as she took a step to block my path.
I leaped about five feet over her head using every bit of that borrowed werewolf strength in my legs. She didn’t move to grab me, just scratching her cheek in confusion. Looking further up the guard tower, she called for Ceras.
The queen’s top talon jumped from the second story and landed behind me, hand axe rattling at their side.
“What is it, Belamie?” They asked as I continued running for the bridge, morning sunlight reflecting off the lake. The scent of forest and fish entered my senses as my brain told me I was nearly free.
“Do we just let the royal pet go?” Belamie asked.
Turning back for a brief moment and running backward, I yelled, “Ceras! If you see the queen, stall her! And suggest to her that I went out the front gate into town. Please and thank you!”
Rushing off into the tree line, the last thing I heard was Ceras chuckling to themselves and stretching.
“Patrols turn up anything this morning?” They asked.
“No,” Belamie said.
“Then we’ll let her majesty sort out this issue with her pet. She’ll be fine,” Ceras said. “Besides, I doubt the queen has let her prized possession get too far ahead of her.”
Rushing into the trees and seeing aspens, evergreens, and other greenery native to Faerie, I sneered.
Bullshit, I thought. There’s no way the queen would delay court to rush after me.
Bushes whipped around me, and I jumped over a stump, knowing it would be more difficult for the queen to fly through the treetops and snatch me from above. That was assuming she was giving chase.
After about five minutes, I came to a stop, sweaty and heart-hammering. This particular patch of trees wasn’t far from where the queen had put down my inner wolf, earning the right to be my pack leader.
My eyes darted at every snapped twig, a bead of sweat running down my cheek. To my left, a rabbit took one look at me and decided it could afford the risk of chomping on a purple flower nearby.
Bitch, I’m a werewolf, I thought. You should be fleeing in the opposite direction.
Puffing out my chest, I turned toward the brown and white rabbit. I put my hands on my hips and said, “Excuse me. Do you know what I am? You dare to snack in the presence of a fearsome werewolf? An apex predator for which capturing a rabbit in her jaws would be pup’s play?”
The rabbit didn’t even turn its head to acknowledge my words. It just continued chewing on the flower’s stem, taking the vegetation in like a board into a sawmill.
Raising my hands slowly and pretending I had the claws of my inner wolf, I took a step toward the bunny.
“You should be more cautious in assessing your surroundings for danger, Bugs.”
The rabbit’s blue eyes finally glanced over at me as it sniffed at another flower nearby, this one with a large yellow bulb. Its nose and whiskers twitched before it decided to ignore me once more and snatch another snack.
“I’m serious, little bunny. Surely you smell the wild canine inside of me. Your heart should be pounding in your chest, eyes watching my claws for any hint of movement. Otherwise, when you’re distracted, you might yourself suddenly hoisted into the air and EEEEEP—,” I shrieked, interrupted by a sudden, terrible force of upward movement that snagged my shoulders.
Up through tree branches I went, air sucked out of my lungs from sheer terror at the speed with which I was being carried.
Looking down, I watched the trees below me start to shrink, and then I felt myself suddenly reversing direction, falling toward the lake approaching terminal velocity.
“Fuuuuucccckkkk meeeeeeee,” I screamed, preparing for a sudden bath of epic proportions. As a werewolf, I was a bit tougher than the average human even when I walked on two legs. But from this height, I could at least expect a bruise or two landing in the water.
And then, just as I steadied myself for a fishy fate, a pair of well-toned arms caught me just a few feet above the lake water. I was close enough to already smell the algae and aquatic turtles I prepared to join. Yet, I’d been given a reprieve.
Looking up at my savior, I saw the Raven Queen grinning down at me with all the smug satisfaction radiating from her face that she could muster. Two large black-feathered wings carried us over the water as Varella gradually moved into a hover, holding me Lois Lane style in her arms.
The lake wind swirled around my hair and floppy pajamas as her violet eyes found mine. The inhuman red eyes I carried were locked in her gaze, not even wielding enough strength to frighten a wee rabbit. Goddamn, some days I was a downright disgrace to the canine race.
“Well, my pet. I hope you got all those. . .what do you mortals call them? Zoomies? Out of your system. We’ve got a long day at court ahead,” she said, the grin never leaving her face. She knew I wouldn’t get far. She knew!
Sighing, I crossed my arms.
“I bet I was so close to getting away. You probably panicked and used all your magic to track me down,” I said, frowning.
“Actually, I was watching you from the sky the entire time. You’re in the heart of my court, where my magic is at the epicenter of intensity. Before your feet even touched the ground I was in the air above you,” she said, laughing.
Her dulcet chortle left me wanting to curl up in her arms and wrap myself tightly within her grip, closing my eyes and forgetting about all the needs and responsibilities of running a queendom for the day.
But no! I’d done this for a reason, and she needed to know why. Even if the inconvenience was beyond minor, she had to know there was a point. Well. . .as much of a point as my bratty ass could make for being obstinate, which typically wasn’t much beyond being eternally difficult for the sake of adversity.
“Yeah, well. I wasn’t even really trying. You’re lucky I didn’t let my inner wolf loose,” I said, arms crossed tighter.
“Ah yes, an ability you’ve yet to manifest here, even after three full moons. But rest assured, my pet. Even if you were on four paws instead of two legs, I could have easily snatched you from the forest floor as I did just minutes ago,” she said.
And then the queen’s grin started to fade as she raised an eyebrow.
“Though your inner wolf wouldn’t have run just before court anyway. It seems to be tamer the longer you remain under the weight of my sorcery and influence, bound by my bargain. But you, Sierra, acted out unexpectedly this morning. Why?”
This was my chance! Here I could let her have it! But instead of unleashing a torrent of words, I just found myself lost in her eyes again. There wasn’t an ounce of impatience in her voice, despite today’s events being delayed by a few minutes. Though I guess you start when the queen says you start. And if you have a complaint, her werewolf would bite your face off.
Sighing again, I sagged in her grip, words caught in my throat that I couldn’t seem to dislodge or cough up. Fuck, all I could do was that infamous bottom gesture where I pointed my index fingers at each other and looked pathetic.
On second thought, it’s no wonder the rabbit didn’t run away screaming earlier, I thought.
“Come now, my pet. You ran for a reason. Out with it. It’s just the two of us here over the lake,” Varella said with an added softness to her tone. The game was over. And now I had to suffer the consequences of my actions, namely being upfront about my feelings. Surely there was something a little easier I could endure, being locked in an Iron Maiden or forced to listen to Rascal Flatts on repeat?
The queen made no move to rush me, which just increased the feelings of wanting to curl up tight against her breasts and have a few hours with her all to myself.
“You’ve been so busy lately,” I finally managed in a pathetic whisper. That was all the queen got for at least 30 seconds.
A crane covered in pink and white feathers flew around us and closer to the shoreline of the palace while my mistress waited for more words.
“And Lily’s still gone on her assignment in the Tulip Court. I just— maybe I needed you to pay attention to your pet for a few minutes this morning,” I said, looking anywhere but her eyes. Saying this stuff was embarrassing enough.
The Raven Queen did not sigh. And she chose her following words carefully.
“You speak right, my little wolf. My work and duties have increased threefold over the last few weeks,” she said.
“And you won’t tell me what you’ve been working on. Whenever I ask, you give me some vague answer meant to dismiss my curiosity,” I said.
The queen looked over the palace for a moment. Her eyes carried a quiet contemplation that I couldn’t begin to analyze. But then again, she was a Faerie Queen who’d lived for centuries. Her perspective was bound to be drastically different than mine. And maybe I’d forgotten that.
“I’ve been working on Bliss, Sierra. And it's remained under wraps so much so that not even Cereas knows about it. Even your girlfriend hasn’t heard my plan yet. So why don’t we have dinner tonight, just the two of us, and then I’ll finally answer all your questions,” the queen said.
Now that did lift my heart pretty high to the point I felt like I was running on clouds. Damn if my mistress didn’t know exactly what strings to pull.
All I could do was nod and finally give in to the temptation to nuzzle up into Varella. I breathed deep in her scent of chilly night air and raspberries that I’d come to associate with safety and comfort. I sighed one last time, content with the answers that’d been given me.
The Raven Queen leaned down and slowly kissed my forehead, sending a tickle of delirium through my mind. It was something much more powerful than serotonin, and I made a muffled noise of pleasure.
“Can we head back to Featherstone now? I’m afraid your inner wolf’s presence is required,” Varella whispered.
“Just one more minute hovering here, please. I need you, mistress. So let me have you for just a little longer.”
And because she spoiled me rotten, I got five more minutes with Varella just holding me over the water, morning breeze carrying our hair around us this way and that.
I need to run away from her more often, I thought.

2023.03.25 00:45 Local-Document-6815 Adizero SL - people in hurricane prone areas should be building their homes out of lightstrike

For some context, ~155lb/70kg, avg 180spm, midfoot strike. 3 runs in the shoe total, 15km longest run.
Got a discount code and needed a new daily trainer, so I took a punt on this shoe. From humble beginnings the SL had been elevated to the adizero line, I had high hopes.
First things first, the ride: I was expecting firm, but having not run on a lightstrike midsole before, this was abrupt. Firm. Firm to the point that I question how someone at Adidas whipped up that first batch of lightstrike, tried it, and thought "that's what runners want."
Some people like a much firmer ride and that's cool, IMHO in the case of the SL midsole it's a rock solid block of unyielding TPE. This midsole could prop up the UK economy. The lightstrike used in this shoe is so dense it has a gravitational pull. Worryingly, various reviewers cite this midsole as softened compared to other shoes using lightstrike (in the same way that steel is softer than tungsten I imagine).
Fit: so this is kinda ironic. This shoe fits me better than any other shoe I have ever worn, and that's only very slight hyperbole. The last is perfectly shaped for me, TTS it's like they used my foot to make the mold. Upper is well padded and comfortable, absolutely no problems. Exactly what I want in a daily trainer. It's definitely a slightly more snug fit, so half a size up wouldn't hurt.
Uses: for me, worthless as a daily trainer, can't get past that granite midsole, I will very likely never run in this shoe again. That said, it wouldn't be a terrible speed shoe at a budget friendly price point (£110 RRP, so probably 60-70 on sale). No problems picking up the pace on strides, once you're up on your toes the lightstrike pro 'puck' in the forefoot starts to work a bit harder.
Conclusion: in the year of our lord two thousand and twenty three, there are just way too many good daily trainers out there for this shoe to be competitive. If lightstrike is your jam then you're in luck, otherwise there are simply better options available for a similar price

Rope end does not fit one into the base
the title was a little confusing, it's something very specific to my game and I don't know how to explain it better, in my game, the player has a rope that when it's retracted, it's like a ball, when it's thrown, half of the ball comes out and the string is in the middle, until then it works normally, however, when you click to collect the string, it just fits into the ball shape again when the character is close to y = 0, otherwise it does not fit, even if the code indicates that it should be in the center of the node
extends CharacterBody2D @onready var parent = get_parent() @onready var location = get_parent().get_parent() @export var rope_lenght = 200 var moved = 0 [...] var states = { 'in_hand': in_hand, 'off_hand': off_hand, 'throw': throw, 'moving': moving, 'dropped': dropped } var state = 'off_hand' func state_process(): states[state].call() [...] func throw(): var actual_transform = global_transform var root = get_node("/root") get_parent().remove_child(self) root.add_child(self) global_transform = actual_transform var mouse = get_global_mouse_position() look_at(mouse) state = 'moving' func moving(): if moved < rope_lenght: drawn_line() var spd = Vector2(10, 0).rotated(self.rotation) moved += spd.length() move_and_collide(spd) else: moved = 0 state = 'dropped' func dropped(): $head.frame = 1 drawn_line() if Input.is_action_just_pressed("click"): get_parent().remove_child(self) parent.add_child(self) position = Vector2.ZERO rotation = 0 state = 'in_hand' var player_pos = location.get_parent().get_parent().position if position.distance_to(player_pos) > rope_lenght: var direction = (player_pos - position).normalized() move_and_collide(direction * 10) func _physics_process(_delta): state_process()

2023.03.25 00:41 shtpss Anyone here good with PTOs that could help me diagnose a problem?

Anyone here good with PTOs that could help me diagnose a problem?
So Monday evening I was using the controls on my 4 car rollback and everything started out fine. I used the winch lines and unhooked them and lowered my tow bar. But when I went to roll the bed back I heard a somewhat loud clunk and everything stopped working. Since then I have taken the PTO down and inspected all the gears and they look fine, even the drive gear from the transmission. The only thing I see is slight wear on the air switch gears as seen above, but I really don't think that will be the problem. I put a gauge on the inlet air to where it goes to the switch and it reads 110 lbs psi. I have also tested the air switch with 60 lbs psi and it switched over near perfectly. I have taken the pump off and the gears in there all seem to be in good condition and turn smoothly. I'm really at a loss and any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

2023.03.25 00:37 I_am_Andrew_Ryan OOP gets a situation escalated straight to the head of HR without asking

**I am NOT OP. Original post by u/TheLightningCount1 in /talesfromtechsupport
mood spoilers: He wins

Lets escalate directly to the head of HR. Or how I stopped being apathetic and actually gave a crap about my job. (For once.) Part 1 - Nov 16, 2017
Actors in this play are as follows. This happened yesterday by the way. Today's events will be posted tomorrow.
$HHR=Head of HR
$Me = ME
$HIT = Head of IT
$T = Tech
$U = User
I got an email this morning with a scathing report about one of my techs.
$HHR - I need to inform you of a situaiton I have been made aware of. It seems one of your techs massively violated the IT data policy and security policy last night. I have gone ahead and submitted the termination paperwork to your boss $HIT.
Please be aware that this kind of behavior will never be tolerated. I hope that I never have to remind you of this again.
Around this time one of the accounts team comes over and asks about this. I told them that it was not approved by me and to keep it quiet while I discuss it with $hit.
The discussion did not take long as the event in question was already flagged for defense. IE I personally flagged it because the tech told me it may come back to bit him in the ass.
I re-review the call logs and oh boy is it dumb. I will just skip to the part in question.
$U - Yes I need that mapped to the B drive (branch drive).
$T - I can do that for you, however you should know that this location is already mapped to the S drive for scanning.
$U - ...OK? I am not understanding what you mean.
$T - The drive you are requesting access to is already mapped to a different drive letter.
$U - No I need access to the B drive not the S drive. Talking to coworkers thinking she is out of earshot. Wow when did they hire idiots to work on the helpdesk? ... I know right. Its like we are the dumb ones or something.
Had to clean up the audio in free audio tool everyone uses first but I was able to get it by compressing it twice.
$T - OK I will just map the drive for you.
$U - You do know you are speaking to a member of management right?
$T - Mutes mic noise Lady I don't care. You are not my manager and are not involved in my management chain. Unmutes mic noise Yes mam I do understand that. I apologize if I have come across as terse. I have mapped the drive here.
$U - Wait...this is the same as the S drive.
$T - mutes mic again I just said that...you know what? unmutes mic Yes I had said that earlier that you already had the drive mapped.
$U - YOU CANT HAVE! ... You cant have 2 access points to the same data. This is a HUGE violation.
$T - Umm no it is not. Everyone who is on citrix has an "access point" to the same data.
$U - No they do not. No one has access to MY computer.
$T - Well mam we actually do cause citrix does not run on your computer. It runs off of a server here in our city. See watch this.
He placed a text file on her desktop named "test."
$U - YOU JUST ACCESSED MY SYSTEM!!! I did NOT authorize that. What is the name of your manager.
$T - I just sent you an email with the contact information for $Me and $HIT
$U - I am sorry but I have no choice now. I have to report this massive violation to your managers. hangs up
I emailed $HHR back with this lovely gem.
$ME - After reviewing the event in question, it has been determined that the fault lie 100 percent with the user here. Her clear lack of knowledge in regards to basic server technology led to her thinking she had her machine breached.
I have canceled the termination order on my end as well as the emergency maintenance ticket she put in to the orders team.
In the future all concerns about my team are to come through me. We have a process for terminating an employee, which you set up, that you violated. The employee in question did nothing wrong and was unjustly judged by people who have no understanding of basic computer technology.
Please do not violate the policy you set in place for terminating an employee in the future...I hope that I never have to remind you of this again.
I sent a copy of that to $hit the CIO and the EVPIT. (Or the executive vice president of IT and Technology)
About 2 hours later I get an email back from the EVPIT. He apologized for the way that the head of HR acted and promised me that the tech in question will not receive any punishment as he listened to the call himself.
Two hours later I am being told that my anual employee review is being pushed up to tomorrow by the head of HR.
Editor note: In the comments OOP adds some context that they work with confidential financial information

Lets escalate directly to the head of HR. Or how I stopped being apathetic and actually gave a crap about my job. (For once.) Finale - Nov 17, 2017
$ME = ME
$hit = Head of IT.
$HHR = Head of HR
$EVPIT = Executive Vice President of IT and Technology. (Yes… I know)
So yesterday was strange, to say the least. The meeting was scheduled for noon so the beginning of my day was pretty mundane. Handled a few issues with users who had purchased their own machines because “ours were not fast enough,” even though the ones they bought were supplied by us. But cest la vie.
At noon I walked into the conference room for the video review. $HIT was in there as well as the executive vice president of IT and technology. (yes I know) The conference started hilariously as the head of HR, or $HHR, could not get her video working.
I walked her through how to fix that as it was a simple error.
$ME – Have you tried unplugging it and plugging it back in?
$HHR – Oh duh. Should have known it was something stupid like that.
We started the conference and HOOO BOOOY. She was gunning for me hard.
$HHR – So I have in front of me 19 complaints against you this year. Can you explain these?
$ME – That’s it?
$HHR - Clearly not expecting that. Uhh yes. How do you explain it?
$ME – Well as you well know, each complaint is different and most do not have merit.
$HHR – So you are saying these complaints were made…incorrectly?
$ME – Yes that is exactly what I am saying.
I pulled out the same folder she probably had.
$Me – On Feb 12th User complained that I refused his request.
$HHR – Good one to start with? Explain it.
$ME - user wanted me to put a folder on his desktop that would allow him to transfer items between his local desktop and citrix. This is not possible unless he works on the domain…which he does not. I offered him several alternative options but he refused each one. He only wanted the original option of a folder on his desktop.
$HHR – So this was impossible?
$ME – Technology wise of course it is possible. We could have set him up with an FTP option to direct into his session. But that would never EVER get the approval.
$HHR – Lets move on to the next one. Different user Claimed that you were rude to her on the phone and hung up on her.
$me – Lets play the call log.
The call log is me being professional while she politely berates me on the phone…until she cusses me out. I terminate the call and send it to HR.
$Me – That call is the reason why SHE is fired. Your predecessor said I handled it well.
$HHR – Ok lets move on to the lady who had to wait 4 extra days to get her laptop back from you.
$ME – Name?
$HHR - lady who yelled in my face said you helped her 3 days in a row and finally took an extra 4 days to get her laptop back to her.
$ME – You mean the lady who yelled in my face and got fired because of it? Yeah I remember her. I had to go to the hospital that Friday so none of my work got done.
$HHR – I see the note here. You thought you had a hernia but it turned out to be a UTI?
$ME – Thanks for repeating it here… Yes. Anyways the point is her laptop was finished within 2 hours of me returning to work. The 4 days she is talking about is because we had a 3 day weekend.
The meeting went on like this for well over 30 minutes as we ran through each complaint with only 1 that was legitimate. I misread a technical error and had to fix it 30 minutes later. Oh well. Then came the real kicker.
$HHR – Lets talk about the fire you started.
$ME – I STARTED!?
$HIT – HE STARTED!? (same time.)
$EVPIT – Wait what?
$HHR – Per your report. The fuse box was overloaded when the third rack of servers plugged in and started a fire inside the wall that ended up burning out most of the building.
$ME – Yes that does sound correct. What your report failed to mention on the report, which I have in front of me because I FUCKING sent it. (Yes I did say that.) The circuit breaker was not an actual circuit breaker. It was a bypass installed to bring the building up to code. The fuse box had cabinets built over it so that the owner could hide it. When too much was plugged into a mains line, which was rated to handle it, the fuse should have blown. But there was about 50 cents worth of pennies shoved in there.
$HHR – How was this missed.
$ME – I don’t know. I am not an electrician, I am not a state building inspector, I am not omniscient, and I am certainly not omnipotent. I went in to set up an office.
$HHR – You appear to have an excuse for everything.
$ME – Yes its called CYA. You literally have that on a poster in your office.
$HHR – Now lets talk about your language to me yesterday.
$ME – How about lets talk about your blatant disregard for the termination procedures you set in place. You created a paper snafu for my worker because you could not help yourself but to stick your nose where it does not belong. If you had followed procedure and not sent the termination paperwork through, he would have health insurance right now. Instead you decided to play tech and fired someone in the system. I spent 4 hours yesterday chasing paperwork and trying to keep this knowledge from him.
$HHR – I Do not appreciate your attitude.
$ME – And I do not appreciate you taking actions on your own. You may be HR but even you are not allowed to terminate employees without
$EVPIT – OK That is far enough you have made your point $me. Remember that $HHR holds your job in her hand.
$hit – Like a small bird.
$EVPIT – Thank you $hit. So you do need to show her some respect…that being said. $HHR? He is right. You violated company policy, you tried to terminate an employee when it was not called for, and you created a mountain out of a single email. (Turning to me) Do you want to keep your job?
$Me – Yes.
$EVPIT – Then never take a disrespectful tone or cuss at a member of the senior management again. I expect a written apology to her by the end of the day. No further action needs to be taken here. (Turning to the monitor that has $HHRs face on it) As for you.
$HHR – Yes?
$EVPIT – You will apologize to both him and the employee you tried to terminate by the end of the day yourself. While he was disrespectful, cussed, and generally made an ass of himself, he is not wrong. You did overreact and wrongfully terminate a good worker forcing $ME here into overdrive trying to stop it in its tracks. You could have solved this by going to $ME when you first heard about it. I heard the call log and read everything about this incident. Simply put the end user was an idiot and needs to trust the people she calls to fix her computer.
EVPIT stood up and gathered his things.
$EVPIT – Hopefully this is the last I hear of any animosity towards upper management, or animosity coming from upper management. Good day people.
EVPIT left and I went back to my desk apologizing for the attitude I took with the head of HR. At 4:55 PM the email came in from the head of HR apologizing for her role. I then had 5 minutes to explain to the tech what happened. He decided he owed me a lunch.
I miss the Wahoo Lady.

Reminder - I am not the original poster.
this user has a great backlog of stories, a lot of them related to tech, but almost always mainly concerning interesting characters. Including recounting the event of the fire, and if you go back far enough you start to see stories referencing the mentioned "Wahoo Lady" (Previous head of HR, who had a nickname for a certain registered trademark name of search engine and webmail host)
Side note, this story is obviously embellished and edited for the sake of the narrative, and I'm sure there's some editorializing in favor of OOP, but head of HR in this case is indefensible and why I found it particularly fitting this sub as it reminds me of similar stories here.

2023.03.25 00:37 Tan-ki How do you counter northstar's ult ?

I have been playing this game for years and I came to truly hate northstar. Slowly making my way to that titan only to see the guy climb in the air, out of range of my melee attacks, with no way to gain cover from it, and enough damage to kill me entirely even with a full health bar makes me really frustrated. I main Scorch and Tone, in that order of priority. With both of them, the ult of northstar is a pain in the ass. With Tone: well the shield only covers in front of you, not above, so you are fucked. With Scorch: well for some reason the ult of north overload completely the flame shield, meaning I have basically no protection, and on top of that let's say that the single-shot grenade launcher with habilities that do mostly damage on the ground are not the best when it comes to fighting a flying target that is going to kill you within the next 3 seconds at most.
I heard a lot of complaints against Tone's ult. But honestly, isn't the Northstar one strictly better ? Tone's missile are slow, you can get killed in the meantime, or the enemy can break line of sight and you are fucked. North simply does not seem to suffer from the same issues.
And despite all that: I hear nobody complain about north's ult. So I am clearly missing something. How do you guys counter North ? What is the strat I am missing ? How do I git gut ?

2023.03.25 00:33 Videogame-repairguy [LOST MEDIA] Sprite AD from the early 2000s

Hello there.
I came to this subreddit with some information about a lost AD for sprite that aired in the early 2000s.
Just to verify, some additional information has been added.
Context: in either mid 2001, 2002 or 2003 there was a commercial for sprite that aired on Teletoon at the time and it showed a African male playing basketball on the court and he was making some really good shots but he missed one, then the shot showed him standing in the center of the screen with another African male sitting on the hoop in the background as he is seen laughing at the player for missing the shot, but he then slipped off the hoop and fell on the ground.
The narrator might've said the lines of "Playing on the court? Have a sprite."
While showing the sprite bottle turning for the logos appearance.
Thing to note, I was about a year old or so at the time considering I was born at the dawn of the early 2000s I wasn't sure what year it was released so I'm quite unsure when the AD first aired and I don't exactly remember what the narrator said but I do remember this sprite AD very clearly with some foggy details like what the narrator said.
I looked on YouTube and the internet for this AD, but nothing showed up, I'm hoping anyone else remembers this ad.

Mars helicopter Ingenuity aces 48th flight on the Red Planet
NASA's Ingenuity Mars helicopter made its 48th off-Earth flight on Tuesday (March 21).
Ingenuity buzzed over the Martian landscape at a maximum altitude of around 39 feet (12 meters), observing potential science targets that could be studied by its robotic partner, NASA's life-hunting Perseverance rover.
Ingenuity traveled at a top speed of 10.4 mph (16.7 kph) during Tuesday's flight, which covered a horizontal distance of around 1,300 feet (400 meters) and lasted nearly 150 seconds, according to the mission's flight log.
Ingenuity, which in April 2021 became the first machine to achieve powered flight in the skies of an alien world, is now well on its way to a milestone 50th flight.
March has been an important month for Ingenuity and its operators. Not only has the "Marscopter" made its 47th and 48th flights in March, but this month marks exactly one Earth year since the mission of the helicopter was extended by NASA officials.
"Less than a year ago, we didn't even know if powered, controlled flight of an aircraft at Mars was possible," then-NASA science chief Thomas Zurbuchen said in March 2022. "Now, we are looking forward to Ingenuity's involvement in Perseverance's second science campaign. Such a transformation of mindset in such a short period is simply amazing, and one of the most historic in the annals of air and space exploration."
Ingenuity touched down on the Martian surface with Perseverance on Feb. 18, 2021. The helicopter, which weighs less than 4 pounds (1.8 kilograms), couldn't take to the Martian skies straightaway, however. It had to wait for Perseverance to carry it to a suitable "airfield" on Mars.
On its 58th Earth day on the Red Planet, Ingenuity made its debut self-powered and self-controlled flight. During the flight, Ingenuity climbed to an altitude of just 10 feet (3 m), staying aloft in the thin Martian atmosphere for almost 40 seconds but not traveling horizontally, instead landing back in the same spot from which it lifted off.
Just three days later, on April 22, 2021, the helicopter made its second flight and its first horizontal jaunt across Mars, flying 13 feet (4 m) at an altitude of 16 feet (5 m) and staying airborne for around 52 seconds.
As of its most recent flight, Ingenuity has traveled a total of around 36,000 feet (11,000 m) across the Martian landscape, according to the flight log. The helicopter has reached a maximum altitude of 46 feet (14 m) and has hit a maximum speed of around 13.4 mph (21.6 kph). Its total time in the air is around 84 minutes.
Achieving such feats on the Red Planet takes a special craft indeed. Not only did Ingenuity have to be designed to be light yet strong enough to withstand the harsh conditions of Mars, but the helicopter also had to have enough power to take off in the Martian atmosphere, which is just 1% as thick as Earth's. This power is delivered by Ingenuity's counter-rotating blades that spin about 2,500 revolutions per minute (RPM). By comparison, an average helicopter's blades here on Earth spin at 400 to 500 RPM.
Ingenuity and Perseverance are exploring an area of Mars known as Jezero Crater, a region containing an ancient lake bed and river delta that around 3.5 billion years ago held lots of liquid water. NASA picked Jezero for Perseverance's mission chiefly because of the crater's past life-hosting potential.

Enterprise Group ($E.TO, $ETOLF.OTC): Cash Flow Machine, Deep Value, Squeeze Potential
Intro
I should start by saying that the search for a company like Enterprise began under the following pretense: I have a bearish view of where I think broad markets are going by the end of 2023 and wanted somewhere to hide out while still maintaining the potential to double my investment under any broad market scenario.
Enterprise Group fits that bill. The Company is a niche energy service company that provides site infrastructure services to remote western Canadian production sites for pipelines, construction and oil and gas sectors in western Canada. I believe Enterprise is a fantastic and deeply overlooked company fit for retail investors (like me) who have the ability to enter a position ahead of institutions catching hold of the name.
The core thesis on Enterprise is:
- Low correlation to broad markets
- High growth and 30% cash flow yield
- Healthy balance sheet providing ~$20M in dry powder for potential non-dilutive M&A
- Share buyback in place to support stock
- Unique low-emission fleet of equipment to grow market share
- Structural market expansion

History
Enterprise was founded in 2004, though as it stands today, is a much leaner and higher growth business compared to what it was in the last bull market for energy in 2008-2014. Where many competitors went out of business during the bear market between 2014-2021, Enterprise wisely divested from lower margin business units, preserved its balance sheet and due to its unique fleet of equipment – was able to maintain cash flow positive during this time. M&A is part of the corporate DNA of Enterprise and has had a successful track record on that front.
While others were still reeling from previous years downturn or still trying to repair their balance sheets in 2020/2021, Enterprise was able to utilize the strength of its balance sheet and positive cash flows to countercyclically invest into new business units to position themselves for the eventual return of energy markets we are now experiencing. A great example of this is the launch of Evolution Power in 2022, which offers a fleet of low-emission microgrids that power the entire production site with natural gas, replacing diesel generators. In doing so, EP reduces CO2 emissions by 30%, gives Enterprise higher margins, is safer and more efficient for the customer. As one of the few “green options” in the energy sector, they are becoming the first choice for larger oil and gas clients subject to Canada’s “heavy emitter” penalties.

Market
The large majority of Enterprise’s sales are derived from western Canadian energy producers, with a greater share of natural gas producers compared to oil producers within its book of clients. Though Enterprise profits have less commodity risk than their actual producing clients, the Company nevertheless is derivatively exposed to energy prices (though I believe there are some factors that reduce the correlation that I will get into later). After years of producers not investing into large exploration projects due to ESG mandates, regulations and low prices, the outlook on energy markets looks extremely promising for producers and has already begun to see a notable uptick in production levels that are expected to continue for a market that looks undersupplied in years ahead.
More specifically to Enterprise’s western Canadian market, there are some very visible demand drivers on the horizon based on new pipeline capacity that provide a near certain increase in demand for services like Enterprise. This demand is structured within tens of billions of dollars of sunk infrastructure capital to provide a roadmap of oil and gas (mostly gas) production expansion in western Canada. Beginning in 2023 with the completion of NGTL network expansion (gas) and TMX pipeline (oil), there will continue to be major new export capacity to come online nearly every year this decade, with recent first nations LNG projects advancing on the west coast.
For Canadian gas producers, the pipelines will allow them to access higher priced Asian markets, where prices are often multiples of those received in Canada or the US. You can bet there is going to be prompt increases to production to ship whatever they can to those markets, given the preferred economics.

Financials
Enterprise just recently released their full year 2022 financials March 20, 2023, where they posted fantastic results. Rather than do a deep dive into financials today, will simply share some important highlights and suggest reviewing their financials below: (https://www.sedar.com/DisplayCompanyDocuments.do?lang=EN&issuerNo=00020838)

https://preview.redd.it/ogc5c1c9hrpa1.png?width=1084&format=png&auto=webp&s=0fc4acc759557050f871276caaa8ce07de9c66a0
Additional items:
- Bought back 1.8M shares in 2022
- Secured US OTC listing to increase access to US investors
- Renewed buyback program
- Available tax losses of $0.17/share
- Purchased $5.6M of new equipment
- Subsequently signed one of largest contracts in company history in Jan 2023

Share Structure
Enterprise currently has 50.3M shares outstanding, with another 5M options exercisable at $0.45. Notably, management/board were buyers in the open market over the last few years and now hold over 40% of all shares outstanding.
This is where I think it gets uniquely attractive for us retail investors.
Since the last energy cycle, nearly all of the research analysts that covered the sector have moved on, meaning the few analysts left covering the space are focused on large-cap players and there are none covering companies the size of Enterprise. There is a window for retail to build a position in a hugely profitable company with a tight share structure subject to a potential squeeze before institutions begin to take notice.
Finally – and maybe most importantly – 2022 saw a unique trading dynamic occur due to a large shareholder selling down their position. This shareholder accidentally accumulated a >10% ownership position, unknowingly triggering a requirement to file any purchase/sale of stock (see sedi filings to confirm). That shareholder then spent the entire year reducing their position below 10% but because there was not a large float of shares trading hands, effectively put a ceiling on the stock the entire year and single-handedly compressed the multiple. This does not appear to have been done with ill intent but explains why the stock bounced between a floor of around $0.38 (supported by the buyback) and $0.42 (where the shareholder was selling) despite everything going right for the company operationally. In January, the company bought back the final tranche of shares needed to get that shareholder below the 10% threshold, thereby clearing the way for share price to better track the improving cash flow of the company.

Valuation
Enterprise is currently trading at a deeply discounted valuation and historically low multiple, which is ironic considering this may be the best market they've ever operated in. As a particular point of reference, a comparison below for the 2020-2022 periods for EV/EBITDA and some other metrics that could influence the deserved multiple such as growth, profitability, and credit risk. I’ve also already listed a few reasons to be bullish on their future market (pipelines coming online beginning this year), which is consistent with management’s outlook from their MD&A that “…customers have indicated they will continue to operate at increased activities through the remainder of the year”. Though a 10-11x multiple shouldn't be expected moving forward, you can see the impact of having a large shareholder exiting with a small float and how a lack of share price movement can lose investor attention. Over the course of a year, Enterprise added over $5M in EBITDA (+175%) and barely saw its valuation change at all!
*2022 year using current share price
At a current 4.2x EV/EBITDA, Enterprise is trading far below the 6x it has traded in previous cycles and which seems very reasonable as a base case scenario. It would take very little notional buying for that re-rate to occur and for those able to establish a position at these prices, it would represent a 74% return.
https://preview.redd.it/vhxfi754orpa1.png?width=867&format=png&auto=webp&s=c5e4b94325c510a57a9de0cf6caae70915db4f4d
Finally, if Enterprise is seen through a different valuation lens, the company just released in their earnings that equity holders would be due $0.68/share ($0.39 current share price) if the company simply sold all of their equipment at book value. Multiple arguments to show that Enterprise is undervalued.

Outlook
Enterprise has a strong outlook on market fundamentals to support top line growth, increasing pricing power to maintain/increase margins and new revenue potential coming online with equipment additions.
Given history of M&A activity, balance sheet flexibility and the fact some targets are still not fully recovered from 2014-2021 period, it would be very surprising if the company did not make one or more acquisitions in the near-future. Management has said as much on their recent twitter spaces interview.
Fortunately for equity holders, management does not have to dilute shareholders while its equity remains undervalued. With $20M in unused credit at their disposal (their current market cap), they would have the ability to make a material acquisition without needing any equity at all. Even if they were to make an even larger acquisition, their debt providers are Ninepoint Partners (via Waygar Capital), who are home to none other than Eric Nuttall, who is the largest and most bullish energy fund manager on earth. You can bet that if the right target came along with the right assets/cash flow, Ninepoint would be more than happy to increase the size of that facility if they aren’t able to secure some seller's financing. If we assume a slight liquidity discount on a PrivateCo acquisition, $20M at 3x EV/EBITDA could buy around $6-7M of incremental EBITDA, effectively doubling the “cash flow” of the company before considering any synergies. Prospect of cross-selling new rental equipment would be high.
If something like this came to pass and they grew to a $15M EBITDA business, there would undoubtedly be a whole new supply of small institutions that would be interested and could be an attractive buyout candidate for private equity, who they’re currently competing with for acquisitions.
Risk
Commodity Risk:
This being the most obvious risk to the company. If we were to go back to the dark ages (2014-2021), there would be a material impact on Enterprise financials. I believe commodity risk for Enterprise is mitigated for 3 reasons:
1) A decade of underinvestment in global energy supplies has the entire spectrum of energy prognosticators projecting supply deficits for oil and continued growth in global natural gas demand. Continued regulatory hurdles, ESG capital restrictions, end of US shale hypergrowth, and return-of-capital mandates by EnergyCo shareholders make it less likely we see reckless supply additions. Adding to that, we’ve now got China reopening, OPEC defending prices, and US supposedly refilling the SPR at some point (we’ll see).
2) Infrastructure Developments: Canada has abundant reserves, with some of the cleanest and lowest-cost natural gas in the world with a painful lack of export capacity. A number of pipeline and LNG export facilities are set to come online, incentivizing a production increase to fill that pipeline. To me, this is the most powerful reason why I believe Enterprise has much lower commodity risk and has been repeated by recent research put out by RBC on the prospects of NE BC natural gas outlook.
3) Tier 1 Client Book: Enterprise’s clients are some of the largest energy producers in North America, meaning they plan their development programs with a multi-year outlook that is less sensitive to short term price action. Further, many of its clients are actual providing the supply for LNG Canada (Sinopec, Petronas,
Market Downturn:
No doubt we are entering a period of uncertainty, with global liquidity being reduced and the risk of recession on the horizon. I think this should be viewed in two ways:
1) Operations: Looking back, more often than not a significant global recession is more likely to reduce the rate of growth in oil demand rather than actually reducing demand. Natural gas is mostly used for heating and electricity generation, making it relatively inelastic as well. Global GDP is also more evenly spread between OECD and non-OECD, meaning growing countries like India will be less responsive to tightening financial conditions.
2) Share Price: Enterprise is tracking towards a trailing 4x EV/EBITDA, with structural growth catalysts on the horizon (ie. pipelines) and excess cash flow available for buybacks. Even in a market panic, it is likely cash flows can continue to grow, providing continued support to the share price via buybacks.
3) Recent meltdown in energy markets had almost no impact on Enterprise share price and would suspect that increased buybacks would be there for support if share price were to slide further.
It is the risk-adjusted return with fundamentals to back it up that make Enterprise special within the micro-cap space.
Summary
1) Operating conditions look very strong for the company based on energy cycle and the foundation of new pipeline-related production increases in western Canada.
2) Enterprise is a pure-play on western Canada with major well-capitalized nat gas clients poised for growth.
3) Small size and cap structure provide potential for significant torque in share price.
4) Enterprise has debt flexibility such that they don’t need to dilute equity at these valuations if M&A opportunities arise.
5) Extremely profitable with 30%+ cash flow yield and optionality for buybacks or further investment in expanding equipment fleet for evolution power.
6) Significant selling pressure from large shareholder has now ended after tendering shares to treasury in January 2023.
7) A single large new shareholder has potential to re-rate the stock to base case of 6x EV/EBITDA multiple.
8) Equity re-rate and M&A could see this company become very large, very quickly – drawing further flows of capital to the name at sufficient scale or be a prime takeout candidate for PE.

I own shares in Enterprise. This is not financial advise. Please do your own due diligence.

2023.03.25 00:11 Strong_Attorney_8646 Pascal's (Mormon) Wager: Mormonism and the Rules of Evidence Part 4

Good afternoon my dear subreddit friends,
As some of you know, several months ago I joined the illustrious Radio Free Mormon for a three-part discussion (1, 2, and 3) between two attorneys on what the Rule of Evidence can teach us about evaluating Mormon history and truth claims.
This is far from the amount of material that would go into a full episode, but I had one follow-up insight on this topic that I've been thinking over and wanted to share. This is also very much connected to a thought I shared here on this subreddit recently, so I'd recommend reading that before reading this, especially keep this line in mind:
As I recently read from Carl Sagan's daughter Sasha in her wonderful book For Small Creatures Such As We, her father taught her (and many of us) from a young age that:
"It is dangerous to believe things just because we want to believe them."
We'll come back to that line in particular near the end, but let's start with the applicable rule of evidence that I have in mind:
Hearsay Exception: Statements Against Interest
As a brief introduction to hearsay: Hearsay is an (1) out of court statement (2) offered to "prove the truth of the matter asserted." Let's pause here for a moment for an example: Let's say my friend Eric tells me that he was late to work this morning because there was an accident on the freeway and he got held up by the traffic. If, for some reason, a trial was held where it was important this statement come into evidence through me, it could not be used to prove that there actually was an accident that caused traffic on that day. In that sense, hearsay can be understood as the opposite side of the coin as the rule requiring personal knowledge for testimony. Having me testify about something Eric told me, to establish that thing is true, will not likely not be allowed.
This is because statements that are hearsay are generally not permitted inside of a Courtroom. There are many exceptions to this presumption that hearsay is inadmissible inside of a Courtroom. Before we get to the specific exception that connects to my thought, all of these exceptions are best understood by looking at the residual exception: A hearsay statement can be admissible if, in a nutshell, "the statement is supported by sufficient guarantees of trustworthiness—after considering the totality of circumstances under which it was made[.]" In that sense, many of the specifically codified exceptions are a recognition that the exceptions almost always meet this requirement of "trustworthiness." For example, a record (or absence thereof) of a regularly conducted activity is excepted from the general hearsay rule (meaning it is admissible--I know this stuff gets a little confusing). This is because a record created regularly (think of something like an end-of-day point of sale report) is generally trustworthy and helpful in deciding a case.
One such exception that allows hearsay to be admissible is the "statement against interest" exception. This exception allows statements to come in where (and I'm going to cut out some extraneous detail): the declarant would have made only if the person believed it to be true because it was contrary to the declarant’s proprietary, pecuniary, familial, or criminal interests. Again, these exceptions are best understood in examples and working through with some common sense (there's a reason to the madness after you spend long enough looking into it). Let's go back to our earlier example: Eric is late to work; but this time he tells me he is late because he caused the seven-car accident on the freeway. This exception (and some others too) would almost certainly allow this exception to come into the Courtroom because the presumption behind it is that people do not generally make statements against their own self-interest unless those statements are true. This is the presumption behind this exception that explains the "sufficient guarantees of trustworthiness."
Pascal's (Mormon) Wager
Many are already likely familiar with the thought experiment known as Pascal's Wager. I've heard it simply stated thus:
If God exists and I believe in God, I'll go to heaven, which is infinitely good. If God exists and I don't believe in God, I may go to hell, which is infinitely bad. If God does not exist, then whether I believe in God or not, whatever I'd gain or lose would be finite.
There are many flaws with Pascal's Wager--primarily that, as Christopher Hitchens once said, it is premised upon a nonsensical God that would rather have obeisance than honesty. But setting that aside, there is one thing that Pascal's Wager gets right: if I believe that there is no theistic God and I'm proven right, I get nothing out of it--no eternal reward. This thought-pattern has led some members of the Church to ask (and it inspired my last post):
In my faith I’m promised:
Eternal marriage
Eternal family
Eternal progress
Salvation & Exaltation by proxy for family and loved ones who didn’t have a chance while here on earth
Eternal salvation, (but not only) Exaltation as well
Question: If I’m going to consider leaving all that I’ve been promised what do you have to offer as an alternative?
So to take that thought-pattern back to thinking in terms of Pascal's Wager (as applied to Mormonism):
  1. If Mormonism is true and I correctly believe that it is and follow it, I stand to gain all of those things (and my stance on many of those things has gotten much more complicated as I've gone through stages of deconstruction--but for the purposes of this post, I want to focus on these promises in the terms that TBMs would think of them: completely good things).
  2. If Mormonism is false (including the existence of a theistic God) and I correctly believe that it is, what do I gain? Well, as I posited in that last post: nothing. Nothing, that is, except for an accurate view of reality as I see the evidence.
Conclusion
So what is my realization I wanted to share? How do I connect these dots? Well, in our courts system we've evolved these rules of evidence over hundreds of years to help us determine what happened in a particular case: the aim is to get to truth. One such rule is this "statement against interest" exception.
So, what does that tell us about the internal reliability of the statement of someone like me who fully recognizes that if Mormonism were true, I'd be better off but I'm unable to believe in it after review of the evidence, if we view this similar to a statement against my interest? If I'm ultimately correct that Mormonism (and theism) are untrue, I get nothing out of that belief. Remember the premise behind that exception: people do not generally make statements against their own self-interest unless those statements are true. I'll state it differently: I had/have every reason and bias to continue believing that the Church was true--yet I'm still unable to do so after review of the evidence.
Please note that I'm not saying that this reality makes my claims objectively true: just that they're very likely honest. In our example, Eric could be mistaken about him being the cause of the accident too--but these statements come into Court precisely because of how difficult it is for humans to overcome their biases and conditioning. My hope is that this can give each of us a new way to think about people who have walked away from the fantastical promises of the Church with honest intentions. When people believe things they have every incentive not to believe, we may not agree with their conclusion--but we should recognize that their conclusion is very likely honest. If, as Sagan writes: "It is dangerous to believe things just because we want to believe them[,]" then perhaps we need to recognize that a belief someone has every incentive not to believe is almost certainly an honest one.
Thanks for being an awesome and unique subreddit--even after a week of some pretty weird energy here. Here's to things being kinder, more civil, and productive over the next!

Joseph loves the agricultural life, but he is the second son, and his father’s vineyard will be inherited by his brother Donat, the firstborn. He yearns for a job growing grapes and for an opportunity to marry Teresa Gallego. In Madrid, an assassination plot, conceived against the political leader of Spain by men of wealth and power, creates a storm of intrigue that sucks into its vortex a group of innocent young farm workers in Santa Eulália. How Josep’s life is changed drastically by these events, and how, ironically, they gradually turn him into an inspired vintner with an evolving vision of life, is the fascinating story of "The Winemaker". During the Book Club, enjoy four fantastic Spanish wines to taste. Chef Bryan will create a pairing board of house–made Spanish tapas, cheese and charcuterie to accompany the tasting. 2023.03.25 00:02 BackSapperr WHFB - Cloud Kerberos Trust, cannot get working

Hey folks,
Unfortunately I've had a troubling time and I'm at a complete loss right now.
I originally deployed a key-based trust for Windows Hello for Business which worked, took a day off, and then it said all my keys expired. Never realized the Cloud trust is a lot easier, so I took down everything I worked on and reviewed the guide.
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/identity-protection/hello-for-business/hello-hybrid-cloud-kerberos-trust
Gone through everything five times over, and I cannot get this to work in any way. I have confirmed in event viewer that "Cloud trust for on premise auth policy is enabled: Yes" is present on my Intune computers and I have deployed out the AzureADKerberos computer object on my domain controller with this guide which seems to be active when I ran the verification command.
I'm completely confused because everything I have checked says this is configured properly, yet when I run klist - I have no tickets.
Other generic information:
Are there any other places I can check?
