2023.03.26 14:34 Glum_Pace8202 Reflections after 194 days CT: a timeline

Just wanting to give folks a general idea of my own experience. Obviously your mileage may vary. I was about 2 years of 40-60 gpd or more and did a few days of rapid tapering before making the jump after months of unsuccessful attempts.
Long story short, it does get better folks. I was at the point where my hair was rapidly thinning, if I was more than a few hours away from my last dose I felt like I had taken a sleeping pill but still had heart palpitations, always short of breath, always anxious except for 40 minutes or an hour during each dose’s burn (if any “burn” came at all), always fearing the withdrawals that would inevitably come.
All of that is gone by now. The only things that really remain are restless legs only in the morning, which could be attributable to a number of antidepressants I’ve taken as well, and slightly lower energy than pre-kratom levels, which could be attributable to kids, lack of sleep, being out of shape, etc.
Here is a timeline:
Days 0 through 10 ish: acute withdrawal slowly evolved into the more long term PAWS symptoms, which were bad enough that I didn’t really notice the change, but looking back, day 10 was definitely an improvement on day 2 or 3. Had all the usual suspects, insomnia, restlessness, heart palps, sweating, nervousness, diarrhea, shortness of breath, tiredness. Most of those only lessened but did not go away.
Then for the next several months, in a non-linear fashion, stuff slowly improved, got worse, improved, and so on. Two steps forward, one step back.
I still have days where it feels like I’m paying for the addiction, where I just feel extraordinarily crappy, more than a bad day crappy, but overall, I feel good.
Anxiety is much reduced. Gastro symptoms took the longest. TMI, but solid stools only returned a couple months ago.
I would guess I have another year of clean living, exercise, etc until I feel 100%, but I’d say I’m now at 85-90%.
Good luck all!

2023.03.26 14:28 fog_bank Classic car registration question

I have a ‘55 Jeep that I need to register but I am confused by the steps. It was purchased in CT. I have no title, which I know is not needed anyway. I have a bill of sale and proof of insurance.
Is this enough? Is a VIN verification required? Or is VIN verification only for vehicles purchased out of state? Also, being a ‘55 there is no actual VIN per se but there is a serial number which is barely visible on the frame and a crusty old data plate. Anyone with any stories regarding their experiences with this?

2023.03.26 14:27 AggressiveFloor3 Funimation is scamming people

I noticed funimation has been charging me twice for months. Their support page already has an "explanation" that I somehow accidentally made 2 accounts (I didnt) which makes me think they are doing this on purpose to multiple people. I tried to contact support via email, and not a single reply. Every phone number I've looked up has been fake, and they aren't going to leave me a choice but to claim fraudulent charges. They have stolen close to 100$ from me

2023.03.26 14:27 jmbits How do I withdraw USDX to my bank in Canada?

So, I can sell my coins for fiat. But from there, how do I withdraw? I tried adding a bank, but I'm asked for account number + SWIFT Code. Am I going to pay for that transaction? Canadian banks don't even have SWIFT codes as far as I know.
Thanks to anyone who shares a solution :)

2023.03.26 14:25 Khelics Account hacked. Email, Phone number, and password changed

Recently my Facebook account that I have had for many years has been hacked. The email, phone number, and password have all been changed. The account was locked but then I was able to unlock it via submitting Id. I unlocked the account and gained access back but the hacker somehow was able to get back on it and change everything back to how they had it. I then tried to forget password and everything but it was just a loop kept taking me back to the same page, tried to submit Id again but link kept saying it was broken or page not found. Facebook kept asking where to send code to regain access but I can’t do anything cause the email and phone number are the hackers and not man due to them changing it.
Now I am not so sure what to do and very worried. Profile picture and cover picture have all been changed by the hacker.
If there is any solution to this it would be so much appreciated as I’m very worried about this.

2023.03.26 14:21 Ram_the_Rod Enterprise Rent-A-Car damage scam

If this isn’t the kind of post that is allowed here, please remove. I’ve recently just finished dealing with, what I believe to be, Enterprise scamming me to get a car repaired. This was a long drawn out process over a couple months and I just want to share my experience so maybe others don’t have to deal with a similar situation. BE WARY OF ENTERPRISE.
I hit a raccoon on my way to work one morning (4:30am, very dark out still). He ran out in front of me and there was no time to react. It busted a hole through my front bumper. So, after dealing with my insurance and getting the car in for repairs, they set me up with a rental from Enterprise. This car was not great to say the least. The front end was heavily scratched and dented, then entire frame alone the bottom and black scuffs and scratches, and the front driver’s side was completely missing the wheel well. But, I had pictures of the whole car and the employee marked all these spots as previous damage, so I was on my way.
My car was in the shop for 10 days (it was over Thanksgiving, so there were 4 days they were not working on it). On the 9th day, I was coming home from work in the rental, and I started hearing a beep, and the dash of the car was lit up like a Christmas tree. The check engine light and many other warning lights began to show. I called them and they told me “if the car is drivable, then bring it back tomorrow”, so that what I did. The day after I returned it they called me, but I missed the call. They left me a message stating that I had returned the car in “perfect condition” (their words, not mine). This left me with a transcribed copy of that voicemail. A week later, I received another email from their damage recovery unit stating that there was a damage claim on the vehicle against me.
Here’s the scammy part, the actual Enterprise store refused to talk about the supposed “damage” on the vehicle and only wanted me to commit to filing it through my insurance. No one in their corporate office would take my call and no one from the company could tell me how to dispute these claims. So I let it go because I’m not paying for something I didn’t do. A few weeks later my insurance calls me telling me they have a claim sent to them for almost $13k for a new transmission on the car. They never even sent me an email and just sent to my insurance, expecting to be paid. My insurance declined there claim for lack of evidence that I did what they were claiming, and so the harassing phone calls started. I was getting at least two calls a day from their damage division demanding that I pay this. I stopped answering and filed a complaint through the Better Business Bureau. A month later, I received a letter from Enterprise that “they decided to drop the claim” 🙄
This was my first rental experience and it was an absolute nightmare. I would urge people to not use Enterprise, but if you do, don’t be afraid to decline a car if it doesn’t look up to standards. And don’t be afraid to fight back and defend yourself. I’ve seen similar stories about Enterprise doing things like this and it’s really disappointing that they could scam someone into paying for their car repairs based on unseen, prior damage on a vehicle. Renter beware.

2023.03.26 14:20 gustavoflauberto Some thoughts on the Metric System

It’s hard to argue against the claim that our decimal counting system comes from the fact that we have 10 fingers and toes, i.e., digits. Based on this human universal, ten seems to be the number of trade, of agreement on a standard measurement, the number of the meter, whether or not you’re wearing shoes, the number of numbers. Other counting systems coexisted with the decimal system, but they are all eventually superseded when civilizations grow and interact. Thus, while our digits appear to be the material cause of the decimal system, commerce and its universalization is the efficient cause. Pythagoras, who inherited and solidified the decimal system of the Greeks, who got it from the Babylonians (along with a base-60 system for time and other circles), seemed to give the decimal system a final cause, considering 10 a special number, since it was the sum of 1,2,3, and 4, each of which individually had some mystical significance (the unity, the dyad, the triad, the totality). Together these 10 points formed the tetractys, the fourth triangular figure. The 2:1, 3:2, and 4:3 ratios represent the octave, the fifth, and the fourth, respectively. Universal sonic concepts, in Pythagorean tuning. These ratios also represent universal visual concepts. For example, 2:3 is a stand-in for the Golden Ratio, which is approached by the successive members of the Fibonacci sequence: 1:2, 2:3, 3:5, 5:8 etc.) I stare at the tetractys and try to imagine a single property of 10 that makes it transcend the number of fingers we have to count on, and I draw a blank. Who cares if these originary numbers add up to 10? Does it have any further geometric or Platonic significance? Hard to say.
We may have 10 fingers on our hands, but we have 20 fingers and toes, and we have 12 finger joints on each hand, so we can count and even do manual base-12 arithmetic, counting up to 144, that we cannot do with base-10. Words like dozen and quatre-vingt and even eleven and twelve hint at a linguistic basis in other counting systems in early European society. Standards like the Roman-defined twelve inch foot, the Norman-defined 120 acre carucate, and the 5,280 foot mile (mille passus) represent compromises between varying counting systems—again extending at least back to the Babylonian—and the nature of things measured: how far a Roman can walk, how much a team of oxen can plow, the length of a barleycorn. To this day, grids on US maps are marked on 40 acre squares, or 1/3 of a carucate. These systems were gradually replaced from the High Middle Ages onward, when Arabs brought exotic goods, numerals, the concept of zero, and ancient Greek thoughts about the mystical perfection of 10.
At least by the 18th century, the inch itself had been divided into 16ths, or 2^4. This was apparently because 16, with 2 as its only prime factor, has non-repeating decimal equivalents, multiples of still-awkward .0625, as opposed to .083333… for 1/12 (1/12 would of course be .1 in base-12). While there is some intuitive sense in deriving smaller subdivisions of measurement by progressively halving your unit of length, this is obviously not the case with the meter, which is base-10 all the way down. There is no a priori geometric or arithmetic reason that halving a measurement is easier than equally subdividing it any other way. Pre-industrial artisans could construct just about any necessary ratios (or geometric shapes) using a compass and a straight edge. US framing squares still mark 12ths for measuring angles that match roof slopes, which are given in feet of rise over 12 feet of run. 12 feet divide neatly into 16” section or 24” sections, which is standard US spacing for studs, joists, and rafters, which fit neatly into the 4’x8’ sheets of plywood and drywall that get placed on the walls, and which must break evenly. Standard sheets of drywall in the metric system are, ironically, 1.2 x 2.4 meters, laid across supports spaced at 60 centimeters.
While 1, 2, 3, and 4 may add up to 10, they are all factors of 12. That is, a quarter and a third of twelve can be represented as whole numbers, not so with 10. Not counting 1 and itself, twelve has four factors: 2, 3, 4, and 6, while 10 only has 2 and 5. It may be argued that 10, basically having two and only two, prime factors, has some elegance, but I’m not sure what benefit that provides.
There are 12 edges on a cube and octahedron, 12 faces on a dodecahedron. 3,4, and 6 are the numbers of sides on the regular shapes that can nest infinitely. There are 12 lunar cycles in a solar cycle, twelve hours in a day. 12 is a lower “circular” number than 60, but shares some of its features, while still allowing memorizable multiplication tables. While there are other, non-Western tuning systems that do not divide the octave into 12 tones, they all maintain the concepts of the fourth and the fifth, and none of note that use 10 tones. It’s true that we have ten fingers and toes, and it’s true that the height of the Vitruvian man, in whose form the proportions of classical architecture are hidden, is 1/10 the length of his hand. But he is also 24 palms tall, and the width of his shoulders and length of his forearm and his femur are 1/4 of his height, while his shin is 1/6 of his height. His face is divided into thirds: bottom of chin to bottom of nose, height of nose, height of ears. 12, a more circular, more harmonic, more architectural system, re-presents our most human and most natural ratios rather than merely metaphorically representing them via addition as 10 did for Pythagoras.
When the Enlightenment converged with the Industrial Revolution, the French, of course, decided that everything had to be “rationalized”. Driven by their ideals, the ever-increasing standardization of units for trade, and the industrial technologies necessary to produce and be produced by these standardizations, they adopted the meter, meaning simply measure, originally as a fraction of the earth’s circumference. They also attempted to decimalize time. While maintaining the 12 months, they made 10-day weeks composing 30 day months, which they renamed to things that you only now hear about as adjectives in Marxist critiques (the Eighteenth Brumaire is November 9, The Thermidorean Reaction on 9 Thermidor or July 27). They also attempted to decimalize minutes and hours, etc., etc., it’s all so boring and predictable, and was all eventually abolished by Napoleon. Attempts to make the meter “geometric” again failed, since the Earth itself was not constant enough. Eventually it was calculated relative to a wavelength of a certain spectrum of light, which apparently still had too many sources for error, now it is calculated relative to the speed of light, itself relative to seconds, defined as the time it takes for a cesium atom to vibrate a certain number of times.
Despite geniuses like the Canadian (the Canadian mish-mash of US and Metric is really something, by the way) Simon Newcomb wanting the same thing for the US, including the foolish decimalization of time, our dogged hatred of everything French has in this case saved us from the form of rationalization, while still succumbing to its content. Or is it the other way around. We still use tape measures. We still work in 16ths of an inch. And US standards of length are defined as decimal representations of the meter. In a broader sense, all ratio and proportion have fallen to the number of standardization. When I call out 25 and 13/16s, I am sure that my coworker can reproduce that measurement with his own tape, though slight differences must still be compared and accounted for when doing fine carpentry work.
It seems obvious that a better rationalization for measurements would have been to switch over wholesale to a duodecimal/dozenal system of counting. Of course, this could never happen because not even the French could imagine it. There’s something stubborn in our digits, and what is stubborn is good to rest on for standardization. But what is good for standardization is not what is most human or natural, to the ear, to the eye, to build shelter, or to rest on. It’s apparently good for the precision needed for GPS, but for the vast number of everyday tasks, and even scientific tasks, it is not too useful, nor even scientific, only digital.
Consider the words of C.S. Peirce, who himself argued for decimalization and first proposed using wavelengths to standardize the meter:
> The non-scientific mind has the most ridiculous ideas of the precision of laboratory work, and would be much surprised to learn that, excepting electrical measurements, the bulk of it does not exceed the precision of an upholsterer who comes to measure a window for a pair of curtains.
Not sure what I’m trying to get at here.

2023.03.26 14:18 notsureoftheanswer Men, how do you navigate the differences in women's preferences in communication style on OLD?

It's been awhile since I dated (10+ yrs), and by reading profiles I have noticed some women say they don't want endless texting and would rather just meet right away to test chemistry. Then there is the other group that don't want to meet until they feel there is a connection and they want to spend time text/calls first.
A lot of the profiles don't mention what they prefer, and I have seemed to be straight forward and ask but some will end conversations after this question as if I have evil motive in asking.
I been chatting with this one woman for almost 4 weeks and she just gave me her phone number, where I spent just a few days a couple messages and we are meeting tonight.
What do you guys do? I honestly don't have a preference about communication and can do both styles. I don't want to miss an opportunity because I either rushed meeting in person or took too long just texting..

2023.03.26 14:17 BlueLimes [OH] Employee morale after not getting promoted

I have an employee who has worked here for 5+ years and has been promoted once to a Sr. level of her current job. They are a great employee, well respected in our company, liked by everyone in our office, takes on a lot of projects and often picks up the slack of our admin assistants. A management opportunity opened up at our office which she applied for, I was on board with it as was my boss. They were a sure fit.
The process kept getting dragged out for 2+ months but they remained optimistic and didn't really let it get to them. At the last minute we found out another office was closing and the GM there wanted to transfer to our location. The position is technically a demotion for them but they are originally from this area so it wasn't a huge deal. This isn't what I, nor my boss, wanted but it wasn't up to us and it was unfortunate that it happened that way and my employee was understandably upset. My boss and I don't expect the transfer to stay here more than a year and I told my employee we could set them up on a management development track so when the position reopens, they have great chances of just sliding in. My employee wasn't very receptive to that, they said they were concerned they would be doing extra work for no current pay increase, that they deserved the promotion now and didn't want to chase something for another year, and that in a year would there be someone else who "needs to be saved from a sold site". I understood how they felt and we kind of dropped it.
Since this has all happened, work has been a mess. The employee who didn't get promoted was obviously interviewing places (which is valid) but nothing must have stuck. They are still professional but the star personality isn't there anymore, they do the bare minimum and have even started working with their doors closed most of the day so they're probably just watching their phone most of the day. Everyone else at work really wanted this employee to get promoted so there is a level of tension all around, and worst of all the guy who did get transferred sucks at the job, so it's not like he was some rockstar. They just charmed the right people and it worked. I've tried talking to the employee and they shut down quickly and don't engage. I know they're hurt but the whole situation is bringing the entire office down and doesn't seem to be getting better. Any advice?

2023.03.26 14:16 genericusername019 Some context on the Dark and Darker controversy, coming from a Korean

I was late to the initial train a month ago, but then D&D got removed (for the time being) from Steam so I decided may be I can provide some additional context on ‘why the mood between the Korean gaming community and international scene are so different.’ This controversy never lost much steam (pun intended) here, and newer shovelfuls of coal were fed into it every one or so week. I’ll explicate on that, as well as clear up some confusions on why Koreans seem to find fault in parts where American/international viewers don’t readily understand.

I’ll mainly be addressing the confusion found in this thread (https://www.reddit.com/GamingLeaksAndRumours/comments/11bne2m/why_dark_and_darker_is_a_stolen_game_additional/). While it’s not the only thread on this controversy, I’m lazy and I just thought handling the one thread with most traction would be best.

Before I get on with the post, I should say that I hate what Nexon is with a passion. Nexon (as well as its other “3N” brothers NC and Netmarble) are a bane to the gaming industry, the spectre which has haunted the Korean gaming scene that ruins everything it touches with its haunting grips and anti-consumer, consumer-predatory business models. It has absolutely ruined the Korean audience’s sense of what games are and what we should expect of games. Its vision is unmotivated, its creations lackluster, and its decision makers view the community not as individuals with thought and preference but as sheep to be milked for every bit of their available savings.

At the same time, there are reasons I’m skeptical of Ironmace, at the very least on the fence about this controversy. Below are a few points on why, formed in a way that can address some confusions.
1) Is Dark and Darker is a stolen game?

No. But it doesn’t end there.

Like many have mentioned, this sort of game formula has been tried before and it is not unique to Nexon’s P3. Even if it is similar in concept to the unreleased, never-finished P3, Ironmace’s rendition uses, according to them, mostly store-bought assets and their code. But this, at least to Nexon, was never the central point on why they’re engaged in a legal battle with one of IM’s executives.
Nexon sued IM executive “A” for violating the “Unfair Competition Prevention And Trade Secret Protection Act” (부정경쟁방지 및 영업비밀보호에 관한 법률).
While the the exact terms under which Nexon has sued Person A is not exactly public, Art. 2 (Definitions) No.1 (“act of unfair competition”) line K may be relevant.

What’s more is that earlier this month, Korean law enforcement conducted a search and seizure of Ironmace’s Seongnam office. In the Korean criminal code Art. 215, a S&S warrant is only permissible if there is reason to believe that a crime has been committed. Before some people pull out their tinfoil hats, Nexon is not strong enough to move the courts to its sole favor. Hell, it’s the court of a functional, developed democratic country.
So the answer to no.1 is that no, the Dark and Darker game is not stolen. But did someone in IM steal from Nexon? Maybe, with a hefty lean towards yes. The reason why the Korean community leans toward the latter conclusion, even when the legal battle is not concluded, is further handled in the next bit.
2) Nexon fired some programmers, so they took their ideas and turned it into a new studio and a fun game. What’s the matter?

People get fired in the US all the time. Or that’s what I’ve gathered from my small window of American society, from friends, the news, and my own research as I look for my way to the States. Quite often would people get fired and they find new jobs or begin a business. But the same cannot be said of Korea.

In Korea, labor laws are very strong and this pretty much blocks most forms of dismissal save from restructuring. It’s not that you can’t be dismissed, but it’s that any minute blunder made by corporate during the process will get the government to breathe down their neck. And it’s usually not in corporate’s favor. What’s more, any minute flaw in the process will have the union up in arms as well. Coincidentally, Nexon has one of the largest, strongest labor unions in all of Korean IT corporations. In this climate, it is safe to say that most dismissals are handled as recommended resignations.

In light of this fact, the sued IM exec was dismissed as part of a disciplinary action. In Korea, to be fired liked this is rare on its own, and to not dispute it or go to court over it is even rarer. So this is circumstantial, in turn weak, evidence that someone in IM did steal assets and code from Nexon. If Person A did not commit these actions that Nexon is claiming, why forgo a hefty severance pay?

More circumstantial evidence comes from the most recent rounds of corporation-union negotiation in Nexon. In Feb, Nexon agreed with its labor union to increase pay by an average of 5 million KRW (~3860 USD). This was the big headline, but some of the other publicized bits included that Nexon’s corporate wanted to get rid of working from home, and Nexon’s union agreed. It’s said that P3 code theft happened when people worked from home during COVID.
3) In the end, it’s still a fun game. What’s the problem of having a great game on the market?

Well sure, if you like splitting the proverbial golden-egg-laying-goose open.

This is where I think IM is playing the English-speaking community. IM went on this tirade about microtransactions and Nexon’s anti-consumer business model, which is all true and a good punch against what the company is. But there isn’t any evidence that Dark and Darker (or P3) would have followed that business model. It’s only IM’s claims here. In fact, P3 was being developed not by the conglomerate giant Nexon, but its subsidiary, named Mintrocket. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because you’ve probably played Dave the Diver.

This bit addresses one of the top comments of the linked thread asking somewhere along the lines of ‘how realistic is it that Nexon with 7k employees had to scrap a project because of a few programmers leaving?’

Well, the answer is that it’s because it’s not a company with 7k employees. That’s Nexon, this is Mintrocket, which a 2022 Nov article tells us that it has around 30 employees. That’s the total number, not the number of programmers.

Mintrocket, fyi, is a bit of a project Nexon is on to fund small studios and develop indie games. Is it still a part of Nexon? Sure. Are they the same, greedy, microtransacting pigs we’ve seen from Nexon? Not so far. So we’re left to believe IM’s word that they(Mintrocket) wanted to add extensive microtransactions on P3. Until Dave the Diver comes out of early access to a 1.0 riddled with microtransactions, I’m calling this claim one-sided at best.
4) In the end of it all, they’re the underdogs sticking it to big money in the industry. Isn’t that worth something?

This is another sketchy point. The YNA article I linked above actually handles IM’s connection to that big money. YNA, a very reputable source and one of the largest news source in Korea wrote an article highlighting Ironmace’s potential connection to HYBE. HYBE is an entertainment giant in Korea, whose artists include BTS, LE SSERAFIM, and New Jeans to name some of the largest of the bunch. HYBE has been trying to enter the gaming industry for some time now, even bringing on board a former Nexon exec in 2021 Jul. It’s said that HYBE’s gaming subsidiary will be called HYBE IM, which only fueled more speculation and controversy here in Korea.

This story is ongoing and HYBE is actively denying connections to Ironmace. So far it does appear that HYBE was part of Ironmace’s early investors, with reports claiming that HYBE IM CEO’s share in Ironmace to be 5%. But then they came up with a counter claim that they only gave ironmace 500k KRW (~386 USD) as a show of personal support to some exec on the team. I think it’s only natural that HYBE IM deny connections, as if it were proven true, it would be case of employee poaching between two giants in their respective industries. And for someone trying to make a break into the other’s industry, poaching is a surefire way of getting everyone to bunch up against you.

But take this part with a grain of salt as the story is ongoing.

Still, if this connection were to be true, Ironmace’s rhetoric of the underdog sticking it to the big ones would be worth very little.
To conclude, I’d just like to add that the success of Dark and Darker, in the end, is a double edged sword. It’s a great game, sure. But at the same time 2 points worry me.

First is that the indie development scene in Korea may falter right when it proved something with Dave the Diver. Korea is, at least compared to the US or Europe, not a market where a group of ambitious friends can go and make their own studio and a game fueled only with passion and a dream.

In large part this is due to the fact that it’s difficult to secure funding for indie games in Korea from Korean companies. But this has begun to change in the last few years or so, as these once-hated companies are beginning to invest more and more on smaller studios and smaller IPs and better games.

Are these companies doing it out of altruism for the Korean community? Fuck no.

In fact, it’s more likely that they’ve seen the limits of microtransaction as more and more people here are exposed to quality games, compared to a decade ago when the only option we had were glorified slot machines and a very limited library of localized, foreign games. But is the rise of quality indie games and visionary studios a good one? I’d say so.

Second is that should IM walk away scott free from this dispute, then these large companies themselves are given a precedent where they can predate on programmers and ideas of other companies and studios. It is not only a precedent in action or business practice, but also a legal precedent.

I hope this can shed some light on why the Korean community, the very people that live under the oppressive microtransaction regime beset by Nexon and NC and Netmarble, are on the fence or even siding with Nexon on this one. I just think that because Nexon’s a shitty company, it shouldn’t automatically make Ironamce a saint.

2023.03.26 14:15 According_Tip3658 Difference between IVF in the US and Sweden

Hello ladies!
I am curious regarding the difference between an IVF procedure in the US (where many of you seem to be based) and Sweden (where I live). My friend and I, who are both doing IVF treatments atm, often discuss this so I would like to know a bit more how things are working on the other side of the pond, if someone would like to share..
I am undergoing IVF treatment atm due to my husband having a very low sperm count, we have been told it is impossible for him to get me pregnant "the normal way". In 2020 we did our first treatment and I got pregnant with our now 2 year old son on the first try (which I now understand was somewhat of a miracle, judging by how difficult it seems to be to get pregnant with baby number 2). During the first treatment, 3 embryos made it to day 5. One became our son and the other 2 went to the freezer. In October last year we inserted one of the embryos from the freezer, I got pregnant but had a miscarriage in week 11. We then tried with the other embryo which did not stick. We then did a new round of IVF, none of the 3 fertilized eggs made it to day 5. Then another round of IVF, 4 embryos made it to day 3, 2 were inserted and 1 of the remaining one made it to day 5 and is now in the freezer. Waiting to do a pregnancy test in 1 weeks time but I am feeling very negative about it, unfortunately.
Now to my questions...
1) In Sweden you get 3 free IVF rounds by the public healthcare. If all these fail you have to go private and pay for any other treatment you want.
I assume you do not have free IVF in the US but do you have some insurance companies covering IVF treatments?
2) For private IVF in Sweden I have paid a package deal for approx 7k USD for 3 IVF treatments. The IVF medicines are free (you can spend max 250 USD on any medicines per year in Sweden and then the medicines are free thereafter). How much does the treatment and medicines cost in the US?
3) I see people talk about doing genetic screening of the embryos, that is not done in Sweden, instead you can do blood tests and ultrasound tests when you are pregnant. How does the genetic screening work?
4) As I mentioned earlier, I have had 2 embryos inserted this time, this is very rare in Sweden and something I had to nag the clinic to allow. In Sweden they say it is a bigger risk to the woman to carry twins and is something that should be avoided. I understand this is not the case in the US though, am I right? How many embryos do they allow to have inserted at a time?
5) Which medicines do you get? I wonder if the procedure is pretty much the same as here or if you do something differently.
6) Any more information about how it works "over there" would be highly appreciated.
Sorry for my English btw.
I am very thankful for any replies!

2023.03.26 14:14 leonjim3 Leaving medicine for business…

Hi guys, I need advice as I feel like I’m going crazy for thinking about this. I’m currently an F2 and have been making long term plans regarding my finances. As all of you have, I have worked very hard to get to this position. However, looking at consultant salaries after tax, it’s barely 6k net a month. I have family who own businesses. Nothing major just small family restaurants. My uncle who owns a fish and chips shop told me that on a good week he takes home 10k a month and 5k on a bad week. If you find the middle number that is 7.5 x 52 = £390,000 a year! I would also like to mention it’s mostly a cash in hand business, so he pays minimal tax on that. Honestly it feels so demotivating to know that I studied so hard to earn a fraction of my uncles fish and chips shop. It’s made me realise that in the UK, you will never have a financially comfortable life being an employee, as the more you earn the more tax they take. As a result I’m thinking to leave medicine to open my own fish and chips shop. Feels crazy, but what do you guys think.

2023.03.26 14:13 Subhuman100 It's 2.5 years without a date

Since my exgf dumped me 2.5 years ago (10 years relationship). I am 31M.
I haven't been on a single date, I have experienced zero matches in OLD, multiple rejections IRL and essentially I haven't been in the "talking stage" ever. I got phone numbers IRL but probably they just were polite and never managed to get a date.
I have never been anywhere close to land a date in this time. I would love talking to a girl and being ghosted after few dates, I would love being dumped, at least this means something is moving in your dating life and eventually you will find something good.
When nothing moves after years and years is quite a bit sad.
There is more of my story in my other posts.

2023.03.26 14:11 Responsible-Gas-3011 After initial attraction friendzone

So I matched with a girl on bumble. After 2-3 messages I gave her my number and told her to call me. Had a really nice conversation however did not think much of this. She popped up again the day after and again had a conversation in the evening. I had proposed a date at this point but due to a parent being in hospital this was not possible we got in to a routine of phone calls every night. In the 6th day after match I bought up getting together which she agreed to date went well. Did 3 activities and went on our way on my way home she called and asked what I thought I mentioned that I enjoyed my self but she seemed distant but put this down to only being the first date. She then went on to tell me that even though I was everything she wanted in a man she did not feel anything no spark and said could we just stay friends I turned this offer down as mentioned I did not have it me to stay friends with someone I was attracted to. At this point she started crying and said she mentioned that she did not like the idea of not being able to speak to me again. I brushed it off and said I was looking for something more serious. She bought a couple of thing and was companionate and empathetic. And as she was crying I stayed in the phone with her for a while to reassure her that it’s fine.
I’m just really confused as to why someone would come on so hard. She was the one that was always engaging me she became slightly attached over the week but at the same time just tried to put me in the friendzone. Which I did refuse.
I refused to stay friend for my own sanity as I have taken a liking to this girl.
By no means was I bitter I was very understanding of her as I can’t control anyone’s attraction.
It’s been almost 3 weeks and have not heard back from her
Any pointers would be great
