Speaker wire adapter to rca

hi! im not an electrician or anything but i think i might’ve fucked up very bad and need help. the other day i was drilling through my wall trying to hang up something. it was really hard to drill through the wall which i’m now guessing was due to a metal plate protecting some wiring. just got a stud locator today and it kinda confirmed my suspicions; there’s apparently a shit ton of wiring in that area. while i was drilling there wasn’t any sparks or any power that shut off it was just very difficult to do. im pretty sure the wires there lead to a couple outlets and ac, but i don’t know anything about electrical work so i’m just making assumptions. i ended up removing the screws because i did a shit job and ngl im a little worried that my house may burn down due to my negligence. money is really tight rn and everyone im living with thinks i’m overreacting and doesn’t really think there’s any need to call an electrician.
here‘s essentially my question(s):

1. is the wiring still at risk for catching on fire even though it’s been a couple days since i was drilling?
2. if i don’t use the outlet that is connected to the wiring will i pretty much be ok?

i’m wondering if there’s any urgent danger here.
also any other input or questions are greatly appreciated. thank you🙏🏻

Hi,
I have a laptop whose plug (the laptop side, not the charger side) has failed mechanically. I have already tried routing around it by soldering the charger's wires to where the plug connects to the circuit board, but with no luck. (If anyone knows why this wouldn't work, that would be great to hear! I did get the voltage I was expecting on the board, so I think the physical connections were fine.)
The next thing I want to try is to replace the battery (10.8V nominal, so I assume it is 3 cells in series) with a 12V power supply. I know where the battery's positive and negative ends connect to the laptop, so I am imaging two jumpers going between the power supply wires and those.
Does anyone know if this will destroy my laptop? Or if it is even worth trying?
My laptop is an ASUS P2440U.

Whilst I was very fond of my Triton 2+, I had to begrudgingly admit that they were a little too big for the space - both sonicly and aesthetically!
After much research and some in-store listening, I took home my new grey LS60s today and left the GoldenEars behind as trade-in.
So far I am happy I made the right choice - they integrate far better into the room right out of the box compared to the Tritons and give up nothing in terms of bass depth and punch.
Weirdly they don't seem to activate the 58hz room mode like the Tritons did, so no need for my Roon DSP tweaks - I am just using the base settings in the KEF App to reflect the space.
Considering I have a tricky space with one speaker free standing and one around 30cm from a side wall, I am delighted with how well they have settled.
They sound amazing! Better than they did in store. Slightly more forward and bright in the upper and mids than the Triton's without being sharp. I am quite sensitive to certain timbres and pitches - think Bjork or other female singers, along with some horn sounds etc and the KEFs don't trigger that at all.
To my ears, bass extension and slam are easily on a par with the GEs, which is incredible to me when you look at the size difference! Where they win is in terms of bass detail retreval - things like string pluck resonance etc on double bass that weren't audible with the Tritons.
The KEFS are also far less fussy about where I am sitting in the room - I get the full immersion and imaging sitting left or right of centre on the couch, whereas the GEs had quite a small sweet spot.
The fact that I now have massibely reduced the nuimber of boxes and cables in the lounge is just the icing on the cake - and now I should be able to make some money back in selling my DAC, Pre and Power amp as well.
Very, very happy KEF Camper.

I've had a couple of on-going issues with my first Alienware laptop.
Key Issues

• Back IO panel has a bulge where the two type-c ports are, I don't know if it's just a curve defect or if a screw is behind it or something like that.
• AWCC would not open and I jumped on Dell's Support page and had a tech remote in. Super easy but after about two hours the tech wanted me to restore from the BIOS Recovery but that failed, then he asked that I create a Dell recovery USB and that failed twice, kept getting the step 4 of 5 and it would freeze. I then ended up installing a fresh OS from Windows and that seemed to work. Once I installed Windows 11, Updated the BIOS and installed AWCC, it opened as normal. I think the software needs more updates. It's kind of hard to switch the RGB options.
• Thunderbolt ports are the current issue, I was on with another tech for over 2 hours today, he tried a lot of stuff to get the Dell WD22TBS to be recognized. It was seen without issue until the re-image. The tech is wanting to reinstall windows but he said I need to get the motherboard replaced. I've only had the laptop for a week now, so I think I would be able to ask to return/replace it. I'm within the 30 day window, maybe not?

Before I return it - Does anyone have a Intel Thunderbolt driver for the X16 that has installed? Nothing is on the Dell Drivers page, the M18 and X17 both have a driver but they don't install on the X16
So far with the issues that I've had I think Dell Support has been great and trying to help. I was quite surprised by it. When it comes to playing games this thing is a beast and the fan noise is really good, low pitch. Alienware did a great job on the fans and I like the 6 speakers and I love the display, so sharp.

I'm just curious now that we're a little ways out from COVID being the great unknown that it was when it first came around, what are some things you're seeing pop up anecdotally in your setting from people that had COVID infections? It seems the formal research still isn't really there yet.
I work in EI. Initially there were the repercussions of the isolation, but now that people have more or less gone back to normal, we are starting to get more and more cases where kids have Autism-like regressions after a COVID infection. Parents that report their kids were typically developing and then lost communication skills, lost motor skills, lost social skills, lost adaptive skills after COVID. They present with several Autism characteristics when we see them.
Another thing that I have heard from a pediatric dentist in the area is an uptick in kids born without enamel on the teeth which they are associating with COVID while Mom was pregnant.

Hi everyone,
I wanted to share my journey and reflections on my recently completed upgrade for a 2013 Mac Pro. I was hesitant committing to the upgrade path, knowing full well it’s rather limited and difficult, especially coming from a 5,1.
Never-the-less, the ‘trashcan’ always held a special place in my heart since it’s release, and I always dreamed of having one occupying a spot on my desk.
So, in August last year I picked one up from an eBay auction for $700 AUD. The model was the 6 Core 32GB RAM and D500 GPU. It also came with two Thunderbolt 2 cables. I decided that I would take my time over 6-12 months researching upgrading.
My first decision was to knock out the ‘easy’ upgrades. This consisted of:
Additional 32GB RAM for $45 AUD 1TB NVME storage and adapter for $112 AUD
The stock 256GB Storage is criminally small, and although Apple’s intent was for modular external storage, that just didn’t happen to the extent that in 2023 it’s a viable storage option for everyday use. Worse still was their decision to make the internal drive proprietary, but luckily adapters exist to swap in standard drives. This drastically reduced the price.
However, the removed drive is pretty much useless, as to my knowledge there isn’t a cost effective bi-directional adapter to enable the drive to be repurposed in an enclosure or other machine (apart from a similar year MacBook). So, I now have a useless 256GB drive.
“Can’t innovate my ass.”
Next up was the CPU. There was plenty of debate over the ‘best’ CPU, with contenders being a mix of 8, 10 and 12 core. I decided to go with the e5-2697 12 core from a good deal on eBay, picking it up for $50 AUD.
Installation was - well - no harder or easier from what I anticipated. Plenty of reading and researching forecasted that it is a long, slow, and fiddly process, all of which proved true. However, patience and pair of careful hands made the job relatively textbook. (That final CPU bracket though!) All up, the tear down, installation and reassembly took about 1.5 hours.
On reassembly, I was successfully rocking a 12 Core, 64BG, 1TB trash can. No boot up issues or any temperature discrepancies. It is worth pointing out that the single core scores are slightly lower, which makes sense. However, the multicore score is drastically improved (almost double).
My last hurdle with the GPU. Knowing full well I was stuck with another proprietary limitation, I turned to eGPUs. Although never officially supported on the Mac Pro 2013, there was plenty of evidence that using a T2>T3 adapter ($65 AUD) would enable a Thunderbolt 3 eGPU enclosure to connect.
So my hunt began, and I managed to score an OWC Mercury Helios FX 650 with a AMD XFX RX580 8GB for $300 AUD.
After applying Kryptonite, the EGPU ran perfectly. This also means my core temperatures are considerably lower with the eGPU absorbing some of the grunt.
So far I haven’t had a lot of opportunity to do real world testing, but I haven’t encountered any crashes or oddities either.
All up, the cost ran me $1,272 AUD. For the power and compatibility, I believe it’s a good price, especially as I was able to spread the cost over 6 months. Additionally, the NVMe and eGPU can easily be repurposed, so that cost can float across multiple devices.
Would I recommend this to anyone in 2023-2024? Depends. If you already have a Mac Pro and are comfortable tinkering with it, go for it. For my workflow, the IO and software still works for me, although is on the fringe of redundancy.
Should you go down this path fresh? If you can find the machine and parts for the right price, of course! It will require patience and a savvy shopper attitude, but it’s not impossible. Buying a Mac Pro with some or all of these upgrades will be pricey, so starting with a base machine and slowly building it up generally proves more cost effective. The CPU though - I stress - is a tedious and finicky process.
However, with the performance and cost of the new M2 machines, even the standard Mac Mini out performs the 2013 Mac Pro. After all, it is a 10 year old machine now.
At the end of the day, the trashcan still is a strange and compelling machine, that has found its haters and cult followers. Even without the upgrades I really enjoy having it as my daily driver, but it’s now just that much better until it’s eventually retired.
I ended up filming the tear down process so for anyone interested I may upload it along with some benchmarking. Otherwise, thanks for reading and feel few to ask any questions :).

I am putting together a sound system for a screened in porch. I am using two AM-1s for the front left and right speakers. I also plan to add 2 in ceiling speakers as rears to set up a 4.0 system. Any recommendation on what I’m ceiling speakers would pair well with these? This will be for both tv and music.

Someone I know has a weekly local sports event they broadcast, they have 4 announcers, and the goal is to have them all be able to hear each other equally, but then also have a copy of each speaker funnel into a single cable such that it could be plugged into a PC as an microphone source for OBS to stream it live.
I have 4 of these Logitech Pro Headsets, each has a 1/8th inch connection and an extra cable to plug in via USB as well. The announcers sit next to each other.
I've tried software solution and it works fine, but we have 3 hour livestreams and the computer locks up every once and a while so we want to try and find a hardware solution.
Now something like this Zoom PodTrak P8 Podcast Recorder looked appealing, but it's $400 and we're trying to find a way to come in significantly cheaper than that.
I've tried a 4 channel headphone amplifier, connected to a mixer I borrowed from work and couldn't hear anything, the idea was to get a proof of concept before buying a ~4 channel mixer for this project.
Any ideas on what I can do to make this work?

i'm currently with xfinity. i'm paying for up to 400 mbps. but things have been slow and lagging lately. both wired and wireless.
trying various speed tests websites throughout today have been showing 91.6, 95.34, 79.3 and 90.0Mbps
contacting xfinity tech support was little help. they told me that everything tested ok on their end. and then they tried to convince me to pay for the next package of higher speeds. but if i'm already not getting what i'm paying for more, i don't want to pay more and still not got enough.
i've had speed issues before. so i returned their router and bought my own. i guess it was in 2020 that i got a motorola MT711. and it was great for awhile. seemed to fix the speed issues i had at the time.
but things are slow now again. slower than ever before. watching cable using the xfinity app on a smart tv is almost unwatchable the way that it keeps freezing and buffering. so does that mean the motorola is going bad? do routers go bad? the package says this thing is supposed to handle up to 650Mbps.
is there something else i can do? should i buy a new modem? should i just go to an xfinity store and get one of theirs again?

Hello all,
My dog bit again today, this time was really not for a good reason (wanted food that I had, we were trick -training and when I didn't reward for a half assed completion of a trick and asked him to do it again, he went after me). Normally he only bites for fear aggression, but this is now his second time biting for resource. (last time was 9 months ago when my BF picked up his bone to put it somewhere else)
He's due for his shots again at the vet, and I need to take him in. I really can't find a muzzle that fits him. We spent a ton of money buying them online only for them to not fit.
He is 2 to 2 1/4 inch long snout and 9 to 9.5 inch circumference, and I have not found a single wire/plastic muzzle online that fits those measurements or anything even remotely close. Anything with a longer snout doesn't work, as it just wiggles all over. I'm feeling like I need to go with leather or cloth, but that's obviously riskier.
Suggestions? Just exhausted and tired of being afraid of his actions, a muzzle for vet trips would be a big help...

18m, 5’9” 148 lbs. I have been having a weird gap like sensation in my wrist (right hand) not necessarily painful just felt as if it needed to be cracked, similar to cracking a finger. Thought very little of it. Performed strenuous activities, pain intensified, visited a orthopedic doctor, diagnosed me with Scapholunate Dissociation. The treatment prescribed was surgery, fixation with k-wires and I’ve read a lot of bad outcomes of this surgery and I fear I’ll have a disability prior to this but I’m at my wits’ end, the pain is increasing and clunking in the wrist has started. It has almost been three months since my visit . Is surgery the only option? Is this method a good method? And are 2.5mmX300mm k wires too large for my wrist?

BOOM.” Dr Dre starred in GTA Online’s ‘The Contract’ DLC so many have speculated that 50 Cent could be lending his likeness to a GTA VI character. Well now, the plot thickens because the rapper has dropped yet another tease - deleting it swiftly after. Very suspicious.

^ The last 10 mins are when things really amp up, but the build-up is worth watching, too. Some backstory to how/why this happened:
Kellie-Jay Keen holds non-partisan events where she platforms individual people speaking about the fallout of self ID policies, how it conflicts with women's rights, how the medicalization of children is abuse, etc in response to the media blackout on these issues and women often being threatened, cancelled and attacked for voicing their concerns. She is often accused of being populist because she doesn't follow any particular orthodoxy and centers a specific issue and appeals to a wide variety of people vs some socialist left-wing radical feminists that would prefer to only organize with people who agree on 500 issues, rather than functionally having a mass movement.
This past year, she started a global tour of this. Almost all the events - which are just grassroots public events that anyone can attend - have transactivists and AntiFa basically using noise makers, sirens, screaming, banging pots and pans to drown out the speaking (but you can watch and hear pretty clearly through the livestreams, which are all on YouTube), and worse... physically assaulting usually middle-aged and elderly women. If the people who come for the purpose of disrupting the events actually took a second to logically deduce the history of these tactics, they'd know that we usually bring theatrics and noise makers to events we want media attention for (essentially bringing more attention to the issue they're attempting to silence).
Police departments are often shown seeming to reject coming out to protect the right of the event to be held (which looks to be happening at this New Zealand event...no police barrier), even with permits...or keeping police support as limited as possible so the events are barely functional or allowing physical violence often. They often seem to stand down until after the assaults happen.
But anyway, Kellie went viral in the Australian media for her event about a week ago in Melbourne, which had multiple groups come to protest, and a group of Nazis came to antagonize AntiFa and started doing their own event over a megaphone before being ushered around by police to do a march down the street. Don't know how they got what looked to be the king's treatment, meanwhile the Let Women Speak event appeared to be the only group that actually got a permit to hold an event and was descended on multiple times, leaving a woman knocked unconscious and transactivists punching horses (mounted cops) to break the police line to get into the Let Women Speak event....for saying controversial things like "keep men convicted with killing and raping women out of women's prisons." Actual Nazis...not descended on.
The Australian media and multiple politicians coordinated to create a narrative that Kellie-Jay Keen is allied with Nazis...or worse, literally a Nazi, that the event itself was a Nazi event, and they hang up the trans flag at parliament the next day to stand against Nazis. Nevermind the fact that the Let Women Speak event started with respecting Aboriginal land, that a variety of races were in attendance, that a couple of speakers were Indigenous and Aboriginal, that multiple people spoke about WoC. It's an ongoing thing to call everyone Nazis and fash, and it's been an ongoing thing to attempt to connect TERFs with Nazis specifically, but with a wide scale media and politician pushed narrative, it has really amped up and instigated the hate and a mob of people probably believing these women would be better off dead than speaking. They probably literally believe she's a Nazi.

[He’s still quiet, but his voice hits like a hammer]
[X] “Mouse. If you believe me to still be the rightful King, then I am issuing this command: take off the collar binding me here, NOW.”

[X, with a little scoff] “Why?”
[His eyes flash with a terrible power, beyond rage. Beyond madness]
[X] “Because I intend to commit a genocide in your name, my love.”
[Pause!]
[X] “Shh, I won’t let them hurt you anymore. You don’t need to hide your rage from me. I know, sweetie, I know… Don’t worry. You won’t have to face your demons. You won’t ever have to admit that you fantasize about revenge.”
[He smiles ‘sweetly’]

[He lowers his voice to a whisper]
[X] “It will be the exact same thing, darling… because I will be your vengeance. Hmhm, ohh, FINALLY, some motivation! Hmhm, now I can finally get my glorious ass up and get to work on destroying everything my little brothers ever loved~. But, the collar…”

[He lowers his voice to a whisper again, voice in your ear]

[He pulls back enough so he can look you in the eye]
[Pause…]
[X] “...Let me burn this kingdom to the ground… Just for you…”
[Pause…]
[SFX: A magical hum and two metal pieces hitting the ground
[You shakily reach up around his neck and unbind the collar with what little magic you have left. The old device hums briefly before splitting in two and dropping to the ground. Xayd rolls his neck slowly with a few sighs]
[X] “Mmh… Oh, that feels so much better. That mark around my neck won’t fade for years… Thank you, my sweet little Mouse. No one has ever trusted me like you… and I will love you until it hurts, I am sure. Doesn’t that make you happy?”
[Pause]
[He smiles widely, regardless of your answer]
[X] “Wondrous. Now… Take my hand.”
[You do]
[X] “There we are. Now…”
[SFX: His wings unfurling]
[X] “...Let us make our wedding bed in the ashes of a wicked world… Shall we?”
