My apartment is inside an older building and my bedroom window is not close enough to the nearest electrical outlet. The closest outlet is 120 V and there will be about 12 feet between it and the air conditioner. The air conditioner has a built-in cord of 6.5 feet. I am considering buying a 6ft 12 awg 15 amp cord to connect to it.

I understand this it not ideal, however I only plan to use the unit at night, and won't use any other devices in the room at the same time, except maybe a small LED table lamp for a few minutes.
Is this viable? Should I bother trying to match the awg rating of the built-in power cord and the extension cord? (i.e. if the power cord that is integrated with the unit is 14 awg, should I get a 14 awg extension cord?)

2023.06.01 22:04 Alene_Arre The Definitive, Redditor-Friendly Guide Towards Creating and Publishing Your Personal Wikipedia Page
Introduction Hey and welcome to the
WikipediaPublishing subreddit! This is a subreddit dedicated to discovering and exploring various methods and strategies of securing Wikipedia pages for a brand or person. My name is Nikolas Lemmel and I’m the team-lead at a boutique digital agency by the name of Maximatic Media. As we’ve spent the last couple of years dissecting the art of Wikipedia page creation, I’ve decided to open this sub in hopes of sparking a discussion on various impactful and non-impactful factors affecting the creation of stickied Wikipedia pages. I’m hoping to start the birth of this sub off strong so I’m gonna try to provide an in-depth overview of what we’ve learned about creating and stabilizing Wikipedia pages thus far as a company in this post. If you have any experience with either of the components I’ll be mentioning or would like to share one that we’ve yet to cover, please feel free to comment down below.
Page Stickiness Let’s start this journey by first recognizing the weird word I’ve used like 3-4x in the introduction: “stickied”. This is a word you’ll see appear often the deeper dive into the Wikipedia publishing world.
The concept of "stickiness" in the context of Wikipedia publishing has to do with the longevity and resilience of a newly published Wikipedia page. Wikipedia is an open-source platform that relies on volunteer editors to maintain the quality of content on the site. These editors follow a set of guidelines to decide what content is notable and reliable enough to appear on Wikipedia.
When a new page is created, it undergoes scrutiny from higher-tier editors and admins, who assess whether the page meets Wikipedia's stringent notability and reliability criteria. If they decide that it doesn't, the page can be deleted or heavily revised, oftentimes within a matter of days from its publishing date. This constant monitoring and removal process is part of Wikipedia's commitment to maintaining a high-quality, reliable source of information and minimizing the extent to which Wikipedia is used in an advertorial fashion.
Stickiness, therefore, refers to the ability of a new page to withstand this scrutiny and remain live on the site. A stickied page is one that has been well-constructed, sufficiently sourced with credible references, and clearly meets the notability requirements. The page not only gets published but also stays published, or "sticks.”
Now, this may already be common knowledge to the bulk of you that are actively researching Wikipedia page creation for your brand. However, since we’ve launched our service, we’ve dealt with a lot of clientele who have attempted to create a Wikipedia page for themselves in the past and were hit with this harsh reality check. An alarming percentage of those cases fell prey to freelancers or companies specializing in Wikipedia publishing that charged them anywhere between $600 - $2000 to draft and publish a Wikipedia page, knowing full well that there was absolutely zero chance that the page would actually remain on Wikipedia. Not an outright scam, mind you, but very much bordering on one in my point of view.
The truth of the matter is that 95% of entities seeking a Wikipedia page do not truly warrant one and this statement is corroborated by Wikipedia’s own statistic, stating that a mind-boggling 98% of newly published pages get nominated for deletion. So how do we combat these ridiculously low odds? Well, let’s delve into what’s arguably the biggest factor of all when it comes to page stickiness:
Notability So diving right into the nitty-gritty of Wikipedia Publishing, we must first cover the concept of notability - the most important aspect out of all of the points I’ll be covering in this guide. Notability in the context of Wikipedia simply means how often reputable, secondary sources are referencing you in their media output. Said references come in many forms, whether it be a full feature article, a short bio in a listicle or just a basic citation. However, not all references are made equal. Some references carry significantly more weight than others, either due to its “comprehensiveness” (i.e. a full feature article with the sole focus being on you) or the “reputability” of the source doing the referencing (i.e. mentioned in Forbes vs mentioned in “Biznes-News-Blog”).
Comprehensiveness Let’s first delve into the topic of comprehensiveness. The comprehensiveness of your reference can be calculated by just a couple factors: the word count of the article, the keyword density of your entity’s name within said article and whether the entity is being referenced in the title/headline of the article. These three components determine the significance laid upon the entity by the reporting outlet. The more extensive the coverage, the higher the significance in the eyes of Wikipedia (i.e. a full-feature, 750-word article on Forbes vs a 150 word entry in “Top 30 E-Commerce Businesses of 2023” listicle on Forbes).
Reputability Now that we’ve covered what I mean by “comprehensiveness”, let’s talk about the other component influencing the power of your media coverage: reputability. The concept of reputability is basically as straightforward as it gets. Just about any semi-famous news or media outlet that you can think of is viewed as a “reputable” source by Wikipedia. The likes of Forbes, Mashable, USA Today, etc are all stellar examples of significant coverage that corroborates you or your brand as a notable entity in the eyes of Wikipedia. However, a full feature article on each of those aforementioned sites costs $15,000, $2,400 and $6,500 respectively. If you as an entity see no utility in being featured on these media outlets beyond simply meeting the eligibility criteria for a Wikipedia page, it makes little sense to purchase those placements.
The Role of Domain Authority This is where a more esoteric metric comes into play: Domain Authority. A DA score is effectively a ranking assigned to a domain which we can use to assess any given site’s authority in comparison to the rest of the web. It is calculated using the domain’s age, the amount of other sites referring to it and the reputability of said referrals. Basically the same criteria influencing the site’s probability of getting their own stickied Wiki page but quantified by a score from 1 to 100. Now let’s return back to three examples of reputable media outlets I’ve given above: Forbes, Mashable and USA Today. Forbes has a DA score of 95, Mashable has a DA score of 92 and USA Today has a DA score of 94. So all in all, all three publications are highly renowned, outpacing the vast majority of other sites on the web with scores of 90 and above. However, if referring back to the pricing of each placement, we see a pretty drastic incongruence with the value derived from each media outlet in the context of GKP creation. Forbes, despite being one measly basis point off of USA Today’s DA score, carries more than a 200% higher price tag. Now sure, Forbes has a significantly higher readership and holds far more clout than USA Today but if focusing solely on its impact in the context of a Wikipedia reference, it really doesn’t warrant the price you pay for it when compared to other viable alternatives.
And these are just the three sites we’ve mentioned so far. Take a look at the following spreadsheet containing 400+ available media placements and keep an eye on the DA column:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SX7bI0YSZeJCWwxaMEZ1LG-QtoiLFnDVJZjW1n-ZvQ0/edit?usp=sharing As you scroll through, you’ll find that there are a plethora of Google-News-Approved sites that have a relatively high DA despite costing a fraction of what the internationally distinguished media outlets cost. Sites like Village Voice, HackerNoon, Times of Malta, Chiang Rai Times, etc. Now granted, they don’t exactly pack the same sort of punch that Forbes does but in the context of a Wikipedia page, you are considerably better off securing five B-tier placements in comparison to a singular A tier placement. So long as you are not cheaping out by opting for “Biznes-News-Blog” as your referring source and stick to Google-News-Approved publications, a varied list of reputable placements within your references section will take you much further than just one extremely reputable citation.
Reliability Now that we’ve extensively covered the topic of notability, let’s talk about a factor of media assessment that is unique to Wikipedia: Reliability. Reliability is Wikipedia’s way of determining how trustworthy the source of incoming information is. It’s one of the only ORM services that views this factor as being separate from notability, which makes the process of selecting publications a bit more complex.
As a PR agency, we deal with a lot of ORM requests ranging from Google Knowledge Panels to Wikipedia Publishing to Social Media Verifications on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Youtube. Theoretically, say that we receive a client seeking to get verified on all social platforms, get a GKP and get a Wikipedia page published about them. All in all, the works. Let’s say that they also came to us with a decent bit of pre-existing media coverage and have full feature articles about them published on the Daily Mail, Newsweek, RT News, OK Magazine and E! News.
Now, in the context of GKP Creation and Social Media Verification, we would notify this imaginary client that we are prepared to move forward with their case and are relatively optimistic about their probability of success. Given that their PR stems from highly recognizable publications with DAs in the high 80s/90s, there is little reason to suspect that they’d get rejected on the basis of notability. However, when it comes to Wikipedia, we unfortunately would have to reject this case and I’ll explain why. Despite the fact that each of those publications is considered notable by Wikipedia’s standards (which more or less follow the same criteria as Google and Meta mind you), not a single one of those listed outlets is viewed as a trustworthy source by Wikipedia. Newsweek is viewed as a biased news reporter, RT News is viewed as propagandized and state-run media, and Daily Mail, OK Mag and E! News are all considered low-quality, tabloid-like sources of information. Creating a Wikipedia page with only these articles as citations is basically a guaranteed nomination for deletion waiting to happen.
This is largely why, when purchasing press for Wikipedia, you want to stick to media outlets that are independent, journalistic sources with a good reputation behind them. So going back to the
spreadsheet of PR placements, sites like Times of Malta and Chiang Rai Times are good examples of reputable, independent news sites that meet the notability criteria whilst remaining relatively affordable. The cream of the crop, however, would be publications like Wisconsin State Journal, Arizona Daily Star, Sacramento Bee, Miami Herald, etc. Localized, independent news sources that have a significant amount of authority within their local domains while having an international readership similar to that of the NYT and Chicago Tribune.
Lastly, let’s talk about press releases from reputable sites like Yahoo, Bloomberg, Business Insider, etc. Wikipedia views press releases, especially those bought from press release aggregators, with a measure of suspicion, considering them as 'purchased' content. Purchasing these is really like blowing money down the drain since these can only be used as secondary sources. Stay away from these and stick only to editorial articles — those written by the staff of the publication and not distributed through the plethora of press release services out there.
The Question of Quantity A pretty common question we get asked in our Wikipedia publishing consultations with clients is what amount of references guarantees a stickied page. What is the absolute minimum that I can get away with? And truth be told, we honestly have a hard time answering this question as we don’t truly know. Without foreseeing the future and knowing which admin gets assigned to review the page and what their opinion is on each referring publication, it is impossible to predict the actual amount. In our experience of creating Wikipedia pages over the last couple of years, we’ve found no shortage of BS reasons given for rejecting a specific source. The way Wikipedia is organized, it really just comes down to luck. We’ve witnessed a client get a stickied page with just five references and we’ve also witnessed a client get their page deleted with upwards of 15 strong references.
Having said that though, if taking into account the median number of references across all of our successful cases, a good benchmark to aim for would be roughly 6 semi-strong, corroborating references with a DA of 75 and above. Again, this number is not set-in-stone and may vary contingent on the entity (living persons oftentimes given more leniency than corporate brands) but six is basically the optimal zone. In the event an admin decides to reject one of the citations, the page still has five other references to fall back on, making it difficult to argue a lack of notability within a nomination vote. But if you really wanna take your chances, three strong references is the absolute minimum. Just be aware that you are fully at the mercy of the admin in this scenario.
“Veteran” Editor Accounts Now that we have finally finished covering the most important factor impacting your Wiki page’s stickiness, let’s move onto what is likely the 2nd most important factor: the Wiki account doing the publishing. Let’s imagine for a second that we have a ready-to-go Wikipedia article that is well-constructed, worded in an objective, non-advertorial manner and contains plenty of citations from reputable sources verifying each and every piece of factual information within the article. Now, let’s imagine that we take this exact same article, word-for-word and publish it from two separate editor accounts. One of those accounts has been around for 7+ years and has made 3,000+ edits across various existing pages alongside the 300+ pages they’ve created and published themselves. The other account was registered three days ago, has zero experience editing other people’s entries, and their very first edit is about to be a brand new page that very few people ever heard of, despite how well-cited it may be.
Assuming they both publish the exact same content, word-for-word with the same references section, who do you think will receive more scrutiny over the brand new page from admins? The guy who’s been around for close to a decade and has a historical track record of quality contributions? Or the guy who literally just made an account on Wikipedia and decided that publishing a page about a little-known entity is a good first step in his life-long Wikipedia journey?
I think that’s really all that can be said about this topic as it's quite straightforward. Aged accounts with a history of edits simply tend to be more trusted when it comes to new page creation than accounts that are brand new. If you have a semi-strong page with somewhat questionable references, the reputation and history of the editor doing the publishing can be the thing that nudges it over the edge of acceptance.
That’s partially why we charge $1,500 for our Wikipedia publishing service. No one should pay fifteen hundred bucks to write a 400 word entry about their brand, that’s obscene. You pay for the privilege of being published by a somewhat renown Wikipedia editor, minimizing the degree to which your entry elicits suspicion and thus, maximizing your chances of success.
Drafting the Page Now that we’ve covered the two most important aspects influencing your page’s stickiness probability, let’s move onto the last and arguably, least important factor out of them all: the actual writing. Now don’t get me wrong, a poorly written page is still very much a massive red flag when entering the sandbox stage. However, the knowledge required to write an objective, Wikipedia-compliant page is far more prevalent and less clandestine than the knowledge required to make the entity eligible for one.
Just read about a dozen or so pages on living persons and emulate the language and writing style used by the editors to the best degree you can. Assuming that you are a native speaker and don’t have any glaring grammatical errors within your writing, nine times out of ten, the page ends up being eligible for publishing. We’ve had plenty of clients write their own pages that required little to no editing on our side prior to being published.
There’s not much I can add to this that hasn’t already been covered by Wikipedia themselves (which you can read on this link here:).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons Aside from the common tidbits of knowledge such as not using promotional language or writing in an informal tone, my one piece of unorthodox advice is to not go overboard with the length of the article. The shorter your page is, the lower the attack surface. The best pages are those that have just a couple of paragraphs in them, ranging between 200 and 350 words. The longer your page is, the higher the chances that you may get flagged for some factoid that didn’t get referenced enough within the sources you’ve cited to be considered “factually verifiable”.
Keep it to a minimum and only write about things that are easily fact-checked and warrant being on Wikipedia. Beyond that, just refer to Wikipedia’s own guidelines for written content and read a couple of pages for a quick inspo-sesh.
Conclusion Given that we’ve covered each aspect of Wikipedia creation worth mentioning, let’s do a brief overview given that this post ended up being far longer than I had initially anticipated. We've dug deep into the nitty-gritty world of Wikipedia publishing, dissected the perplexing idea of "stickiness", navigated through the labyrinth of notability, comprehensiveness, reputability, and reliability, and peered into the halls of "Veteran" editor accounts.
So, let’s summarize what we’ve learned. Wikipedia's demanding notability and reliability criteria mean you can't simply grab any media coverage and hope it sticks. Quality over quantity, friends. Be discerning in your source selection, aim for varied, reputable sources, and steer clear of low-quality, biased outlets. You need to be strategic and smart about it. A Wikipedia page isn’t a walk in the park, it's a marathon, demanding preparation, skill, and persistence.
Never forget the importance of the account that does the publishing. An aged, trusted account can make the difference between sailing through or sinking like a stone. And remember, Wikipedia is not a billboard. It’s not about shouting your brand or achievements from the rooftops, it’s about providing an unbiased, informative, well-referenced and worthwhile contribution to the collective human knowledge.
We've shared the tricks of the trade, the ins, the outs, and the in-betweens of securing your Wikipedia page and have hopefully proven ourselves to be an above-average service provider of
Wikipedia Publishing Services in the process.
Hopefully, y’all found this sub’s first post to be useful and a good introduction into the world of Wikipedia publishing. Myself and my team member, Marcus will be sticking around for an AMA on this post in case people have questions regarding any of the factors we’ve covered in this guide. Don’t forget guys, we started this subreddit out of the desire to make the process of securing a Wikipedia page less daunting and more of a community endeavor. It's a place where we can share our triumphs and challenges, learn from each other, and navigate the Wikipedia landscape together. So whether you’re a newbie trying to secure your own page or a PMarketing professional with years of experience in the field, please do not hesitate to share your journeys along with any factors you’ve found to have an impact that we failed to cover in the guide.
Let’s make
WikipediaPublishing the focal point of every Wikipedian’s self-publishing endeavor!

2023.06.01 22:04 kayla019283 31F - Looking for long term friendship - USA
I want to find a friend who I can talk to and listen about each other’s lives. I want this to be a mutual thing. You talk and I talk. So only reach out if you will put in the effort. I’m from the US, but it’s okay if you’re in another country, it will just be difficult to stay in touch because of the time differences, and what point does that serve if we would barely talk.
Also, texting is convenient and something we could do to stay in touch, but we also need to add calls to the mix. I don’t want to hear that you need to know me first.
MUST BE OKAY WITH CALLS. I’m not making anyone message me and do calls. That’s your choice, but if you do reach out it’s because you’re going to be doing calls with me :) And I don’t mean share numbers, we can talk on an app.
I enjoy walks and being out in the sun, now that the weather is getting warmer. I also enjoy Korean and Thai shows. I like K-pop and my favorite group is BLACKPINK.
I’m 31, probably too old for some of you. I’m single. I don’t have children. I’m in a good spot but just need that connection with people because I lack social skills.
If you’re married, don’t reach out. It is just uncomfortable. Also, if you’re in a relationship, it’s just awkward. Why?!
If the times below don’t work for you or you won’t be able to talk through these times then it won’t work, so don’t reach out.
I’m in MST, USA. I wake up at 5am Monday to Friday and 6am on weekends. I sleep around 11pm each night. I would like it if we could talk throughout the day and start and end our days together.
Thanks. Send me a chat request if you want to try this. Include your location and in your own words tell me what you are looking for or I will not reply. I will not respond to messages or comments, only chat.
I also have other forms of communication if that works best for you.

2023.06.01 22:04 fox-bun Advice: Etsy, LLCs, taxes?
So let me preface this: I'm autistic (learning disabilities, trouble understanding certain things). I've done my best to try to research these topics, but all of the sites that I find don't give me a clear enough answer in terms/wording I can understand, so I hoped some of you with experience could help me find clarity. With most sites written in various professional lingo, it all makes my head spin, and I know enough to realize I need to admit my shortcomings and ask for somebody who can explain things to me in more of a layman's terms.
Running an etsy shop since 2021. Sales figures and profits vary wildly, month to month and year to year. Some years I make enough to hit the $600 threshold for etsy to prompt me to fill out tax forms, sometimes not. (I think they prompted once late 2021 or early 2022, I filled it out and never heard anything else, so I have no clue if they sent it to the IRS on my behalf or..?)
My eventual goal is to register as an LLC, but I don't know exactly what that will imply for me going forward in terms of what my new responsibilities will be (filing taxes, filing other documents and such). I'm stuck between feeling like it's very important and something I should do as soon as possible, but at the same time I am afraid that as soon as I do, I will screw something up and end up in trouble with the IRS or otherwise in debt.
I know other etsy shop owners do stuff like claim/write-off (I don't understand the terms or the difference if there is one) shipping costs, material/supply cost, packaging costs, etc - but how exactly do I start to do this? I've saved years worth of USPS receipts, but they're all prepaid thru etsy, so all those receipts show is me paying USPS $0 for x number of packages. Most of my supply orders are online so I've got things like the Amazon orders page as proof I bought the items (I'll have to give up on the occasional Joann's trip unless a line in my bank account would count?).
If there is a better subreddit that I should post this in please feel free to direct me there. I've been wanting to try to hire a professional to answer these questions for me, but I'm not making enough in sales to justify even considering that yet. I'd like to at least understand how the basics work before paying an LLC consultation service. Thank you so much in advance.

2023.06.01 22:02 EgoVilify 36 [M4F] - Lovable Loser Looking for Love
Hi, I'm
Edward a 5'9" Latino
dude from the I.E. area of Southern California. A misanthropic, introverted,
geeky hot mess, with a smart mouth, a broken heart, a fading dream and not much else. Nocturnal and a hardened homebody, with a dark sense of humor that believes anything can be joked about, including myself. Irreverent, but still tactful, even though I try to keep my distance from everyone. I'm into console gaming, reading, sci-fi, anime, music, making music, food, the paranormal, conspiracy theories, ufology, 420 friendly obviously, lol. I'm also teaching myself to
cook, love to cuddle, & I can speak a bit of Spanish "yo soy buscando una novia." In a relationship I'd need attention, reassurance, communication, and can give all this back and be really supportive, affectionate, and caring, oh and I like lots of physical affection, like if you're not down for hardcore pre-marital hand-holding don't even bother, lol. Love is pretty much all I want, I don't care how much monetary wealth you have or your status, and what I lack in wealth I hope to make up for in other ways (did I mention I can cook? lol,) I'm not perfect though, I don't expect you to be either, & I understand not everyone is looking for a project, I don't have my shit together (like any of it) and I'm broke af. I just want real love, with a woman who's single, available, monogamous, kind, caring, supportive, affectionate, low maintenance, loyal, & maybe a bit clingy, lol a woman who isn't materialistic, isn't into hook ups, or casual sex & DOES NOT have or want children (I don't plan on having kids.)
Okay that's about it please REPLY WITH YOUR PICTURE and a small introduction, so I know you read this far, okay thank you so much for your time and consideration, good luck out there!

2023.06.01 22:02 CephalonAhmes The Seven Crimes of Kullervo: Upcoming Fixes & Changes
Source Tenno!
While we’ve briefly paused on Hotfixing until we release
Update 33.5 The Seven Crimes of Kullervo, we wanted to note a handful of documented issues that will be fixed when the Update launches. These are in-game fixes that require code, which means it requires a Cert Update to deploy these changes. If you’re not sure what sending to Cert means, we’ve posted a “
Warframe Lexicon for Updates” to help explain our processes.
Known issues that are fixed for The Seven Crimes of Kullervo: (this list is by no means exhaustive) - Rune Marrow not being affected by Boosters in the Undercroft.
- The Killer’s Confidence Decree slows Warframes for the remainder of the mission after using abilities with large areas of effect (Commonly seen in the Undercroft and Orowyrm arena).
- Sevagoth’s Shadow does not benefit from Decrees.
- Joining missions with a full set of Stalker weapons and the Dread Incarnon evolution “Coup de Grace” crashes the game (workaround in the meantime: use a different weapon or a different evolution).
- Tapping Aim while in the middle of a melee swing causes your weapon to get stuck in Aim mode until you tap it again.
- “Rolling Reload” Decree breaks Hema functionality.
- The Evolution 5 challenge "Complete a mission with an Incarnon weapon in every slot" doesn’t unlock if Incarnon Genesis weapons are used.
- Host migration after abandoning a Railjack mission causes Client to be stuck loading.
- Copying existing Decorations does not keep scaling or orientation.
- Unable to search for weapons with Incarnon Adapters installed in Arsenal.
More fixes are actively being investigated - the above is a reflection of issues that been verified in Update 33.5.
Under Review for the Update: - The Hate’s Incarnon Form causing self-stagger.
- The Soma’s Incarnon Form damage output and interaction with the Hata Satya Augment Mod.
Upcoming “Quality of Life” (QOL) Changes: As mentioned in
Devstream 171, we have an ongoing list of QOL changes based on Community feedback (this list is by no means exhaustive):
- Ability to preview Teshin’s Cave offerings in the Star Chart before entering Duviri.
- Tied to specific Drifter Intrinsics.
0f00dba9202b28ee4c22db12afaace20.jpg (In development image for reference) - Static Undercroft Portals in Duviri as optional side-objectives.
- Steel Path Circuit Arcanes will also be available here.
- Full Key Binding customization for the Drifter in “Control” settings.
- Players can now skip the Reward pop-up in the Circuit after unlocking multiple tiers at once.
- Reduced Maw Feeding difficulty by increasing the time allotted to feed.
Thank you all for your feedback and bug reports! If you have any more bug reports or feedback to share, you can continue to do so in our dedicated Duviri
subforum.
There’s
lots more to come in Update 33.5: The Seven Crimes of Kullervo, such as Kullervo himself!
This action was performed automatically, if you see any mistakes, please tag u/desmaraisp, he'll fix them. Here is my github.
I have found a new home on AWS Lambda, RIP Heroku free tier.

2023.06.01 22:01 TheFigKing Goodbye
Well folks. It's time for me to move on.
After months of trying very hard to make this work, the poor service, terrible technical service and multiple tickets escalated to engineerimgbyielded no real resolution to my outages almost 2 to 3 times a week paired with having to reboot the gateway almost daily and at last 23 calls to tech services to *reset the connection "only for it to work for a few more days and poop itself again.. And again.. And again.
After replacing Sim, gateway devices, etc, it'sy belief the area is over saturated and there are other underlying issues as well.
Dissapointed is an understatement and the quality of the service in my area is no longer usable and reliable in any shape or form and the decision had to be made to go crawling back to xfinity. They offered a $30/month no contract price guarantee for 24 months with speeds of 200 down, 10 up which sadly I don't recall ever seeing that from tmob.
I really really haaaaaate Comcast and wanted this to work but the attitude taken by tmob engineering has ultimately led me to move on and away for now till maybe metrolink fiber decides to roll out in my area.

2023.06.01 22:00 theoozz Men with RLS onset prior to age 35
If you are a male with early onset RLS, unfortunately, you have the worst form of the disease. In private discussions I’ve had with doctors, our cohort is the absolute worst and hardest to treat. It will progress faster and be more intense than all other cohorts. If you have kids, it’s quite likely that they will inherit this horrible form of the disease.
You may read other RLS patients getting stable long term treatment, but nothing seems work for you for more than a few months. Why you ask? It is likely that our pathology is different in some way but they don’t know why.
Currently, there is not much research on our demographic, but I’m working on a research proposal that may give us additional insight. I just need to speak with a few others in this demographic to validate what the doctors have told me.
There is no money involved, you don’t need to disclose your identity if you don’t want to. PM me and I can give you more details about myself and what I’m working on.

Once we had taken down the camp, I loaded the cart with the animal carcasses using my Hands of Air. While I was strong, there was
no way I was lifting a female Dire Bear. Once our quarry was loaded onto the cart, I helped my Haarthuu friends up as well. They all situated themselves in the front seat, and I took my place behind the handle.
“Off we go!” I exclaimed and pushed off from the ground. It was difficult to get the cart rolling, but once I did, keeping it there wasn’t too much strain.
We continued in this way for about five hours, which is when we came to a hill that I would be unable to climb with the cart, and I doubted my companions would be much help. I had stopped and was leaning against the handle, breathing hard and heavily.
“Well, I can’t climb this, and I don’t have it in me to tunnel through. What should we do, Liss-ran?” I asked, panting.
Liss-ran sat there in a slight panic. “Um, I’m not sure. If there were Uror nearby, I’d say to convince one of them to help?”
I snapped my fingers. “That’s it! I’ll call Walter,” I said happily.
I closed my eyes and leaned on the cart.
“
Walter?”
“Yeah, Boss? You okay? You sound beat.”
“I’m fine. Just kinda tired. Where are you located right now? I could use some help.” “Yeah? Let’s see…. I’m about an hour or so away from where you are right now. What’s going on?” “I’m pulling a cart through the woods back to Haruma. I’ve hit a hill that I can’t pull it over. It’s too loaded down, and I’m not strong enough.” “Ah. I see. Well, I can be there in an hour. Or should I send someone else?” “Well, this cart is narrower than the last. It may be a bit uncomfortable for you.” “Okay. I can send a kid over to you. They’ll be able to carry you and pull the cart.” “You sure?” “Yeah, boss. She’s on her way right now. From a different herd, so she can get to you faster. “Okay. Should I give her some of my magic so she can communicate with me, or are you the only member I will be able to speak with? I don’t know how this all works.” “Nah. Don’t worry about it. She’ll be able to understand you, and will take you home no sweat. If she decides to stick around, I might uhh… claim her. Have your woman try to bond with her.” I laughed and let the matter drop. “
Okay Walter. Thanks man. If there’s anything I can do for you, let me know. Oh. We’re leaving the week after last frost. Heading to Klearm. If you could meet us in Haruma beforehand, I’ll make sure you’re fed well and your coat is nice and shiny.”
“
You got it, Boss! Looking forward to it!”
I pulled my Pack off, and removed a large piece of leather, as well as my tools. “Gonna need these in a few. We have a female Uror heading our way. I’m going to make a harness and a saddle for her once she gets here, and we will be on our way. Sound good?” I announced.
Four heads looked at one another, then at me. “How did you manage that, Ivor?” Liss-ran asked incredulously.
“Uh, I just reached out to Walter, the Uror that brought us here. Apparently when you bond yourself to a Uror, you can speak with them from great distances. He’s an hour away. The female should be here much quicker. She’s from a more local herd,” I explained. “I won’t be able to speak with her the same as I do Walter, but I was instructed to see if Elizabet would like to try and bond with her.” I concluded.
“Okaaayyy….. If you say so, Ivor. I guess we get to see a different Uror,” Liss-ran said, shaking her head.
I rested there, cutting some strips from the leather for makeshift reins, belts and straps. I also took the time to fashion buckles from the Duplicated knife blade I had in my Pack. About fifteen minutes after I had finished making those, a shaggy Uror trundled up and halted beside the cart. She snorted and stamped a paw on the ground, seemingly eager to get this over with.
“Hello, my lady! Thank you for answering Walter’s call to help us. I trust he has explained the situation to you?” I said to the shaggy beast.
She tossed her head twice, which I took as an affirmative. “Excellent. Now, if you don’t mind, I’d like to fit you for a harness so we can hitch you to the wagon. Would you mind if I got to work? I’ll do my best to make it as comfortable as possible. If it pinches or is uncomfortable, please snort twice,” I said, receiving another toss of her head.
I smiled and got to work, crafting the harness from memory and sizing it to fit the much smaller female. After a few mistakes, she and I fell into a routine, and I had the harness crafted in short order. Once I explained the concept of the saddle to her, I began the process of making that, with similar results. All in all, it took us the better part of an hour to finish the work.
“There we are. Hmm. You know, I can’t just call you ‘Uror’ or something like that. May I call you Lady?” I asked.
The shaggy beast was still for a moment, and then tossed her head twice. “Excellent, Lady! I am Ivor, and we are going to Haruma. I will direct you, if that’s okay?” Another head toss and she began to strain against the weight of the cart. I quickly climbed up, and we were off.
With the assistance of Lady, we made short work of the hill in front of us. I let her choose the pace, and we were slowly, but steadily, on our way to Haruma once more.
“Liss-ran? How long do you think we have until we get home?” I asked.
“At this rate?” she said, taking stock of our surroundings and pace. “We should be there around dinnertime, I’d say.”
“Awesome. Just in time to have some of Gon-rash’s amazing cooking. This day is getting better and better!” I said happily, shrugging my Pack back onto my shoulders.
We rode and chatted for another hour or so, and I saw how lifted everyone’s spirits were. Even Tren-sun was cracking jokes and smiling.
After an hour or so, Kilik-ma called out, “Hey Ivor. What kind of entertainment does your world have?”
“Entertainment? Well, we have books, plays, theater, dance, songs, musical bands, and a form of entertainment that absolutely doesn’t and hopefully will never exist on Chaia, television,” I said. “Why?”
“Well, Liss-ran was describing your music to me when we were hunting, and I was curious to hear some.”
“Oh. Well, that device is back in Haruma, actually. I left it with Elizabet for safe-keeping, so I can’t use it right now to show you my music,” I said regretfully.
“Oh. Okay,” Tren-sun said, sounding dejected.
“But I’m feeling pretty good, so how about I sing a song for you?” I ventured.
Four voices replied in the affirmative, and even Lady tossed her head. Looks like I was committed. I racked my brain, trying to think of a decent one that I actually knew all the lyrics to, when a shiver ran through me. That’s it! I took a deep breath and began…
“
Sleigh bells ring, are you listening?....” My rich baritone rang out through the forest, echoing off the trees and the mountain beside us.
As I was atop Lady and had my eyes closed, I was naturally unable to see the stunned reactions on the faces of my companions, as I was also facing away from them.
As I sang, the very air around us changed. The scent of snow that I had grown accustomed to had multiplied, finally depositing its bounty of crystalline glory across the entirety of the forest. Unnoticed by me, some of the buckles had been Duplicated, and now hung on the reins as small tinkling bells.
A smattering of small, blue birds had taken flight shortly after I began, wheeling their way south. The Haarthuu watched, openmouthed, as they took flight, as there had been no birds in those trees before.
Feeling joy course through my core, I opened my eyes to a forest covered in a blanket of fluffy snow. I continued, nearly trancelike, with my song, seeing the images from my mind’s eye blossom into being in a clearing to our left.
Two people made of snow, resembling myself and Elizabet, were building another snowman, giving him a defined beard and a book. These snowy puppets acted out the lyrics to the song I was singing, bowing and dancing about.
The scene shifted, and there was a fireplace made of snow, complete with dancing flames made of snow within. Two puppets, easily the size of a dire bear, pantomimed speaking and were then covered by a snowy blanket.
Once more, we saw an empty field, with the same three puppets from before. They danced and glided about the field, “speaking” to the snow-preacher.
As my song concluded, we saw the two puppets walking arm-in-arm beside the cart, and then they collapsed into a pile of wet snow once I closed my mouth.
As I came back to my senses, I realized I was sweating profusely, and my stomach was protesting
loudly.
“Ivor.
What. Did. You. Just. Do?” Liss-ran asked breathlessly.
I sat there, panting. Trembling, I reached into my coat for the jerky that I had taken to keeping there. I began stuffing piece after piece into my starving gullet, trying to stave off the unconsciousness that loomed on my horizon. I swallowed more and more of the meat, my mouth eventually going dry. I slung my Pack to the front, and pulled out the pitcher and drank deeply of its cool bounty.
My thirst slaked, my hunger staved off for the moment, I turned and looked at Liss-ran.
“I have no idea. It looks like I can’t be singing things like that. I hope I haven’t royally mucked up the weather…” I said in a shaky voice.
“Was that the Ancient Tongue?” asked Piri-thak.
“Huh?”
“Ivor, we couldn’t understand a
word of that. Are you telling me that you didn’t realize you were singing in the Ancient Tongue?” Liss-ran asked gently.
Realization hit me like a truck. I
sang the weather into existence. It was effortless and easy. I didn’t even register that I was doing so until after I was done and the shakes hit. What’s more, I sang what I saw in my head into existence. All the images I would see when I heard that song manifested in this world as snowy puppets and props. Even the bells that were on the harness were exactly as my mind’s eye saw them. I could only guess that I may have
created a new species of bird. I felt mortified.
“No… I had no idea I wasn’t singing in your language. Well. Now to deal with the fallout. Is this the normal time the snows would begin, Liss-ran?” I asked quietly.
“Thankfully, yes. It’s a week early, but nothing too far out of the ordinary. I wouldn’t worry too much about altering the weather. Those birds, though.
That may be a different story. There _were _only twenty or so,” she replied.
I nodded and closed my mouth. This was a new lesson, and one that I needed to ensure stayed present in my mind. I zipped my coat up against the wind, and Lady trudged on.
As the skies darkened, we could see the main road that led into our home. Kilik-ma jumped down and raced ahead, probably to let the village know we were back a little early.
About ten minutes after he left, we had a throng of people rushing out to meet us. At the forefront were Elizabet, Talah-ma’at and our boys.
“Hi everyone! We’re a little early, I know. We’ve got some goodies in the back of the wagon, and a lot more in my Pack. Let’s get Lady into the city, and we’ll unload everything, okay?” I called out.
The crowd of maybe thirty individuals parted and walked beside us like an honor guard, leading the Uror into the central hall of Haruma. Once inside, I called the gentle beast to a halt, and dismounted. I unhooked her from the cart and began to remove her harness when she snorted twice.
“Lady? Is something the matter?”
The Uror walked out of the twin shafts of the cart and turned to face us. Or, more specifically, she faced
Elizabet. She looked directly at her and tossed her head.
“Present your magic to her, Elizabet. See if she’ll take it,” I said softly.
Slowly, Elizabet raised a trembling hand and a small, iron-gray sphere rose from her palm and hovered four inches above it. She approached the shaggy beast with her outstretched hand, and waited.
Lady stepped forward and gently plucked the sphere from Elizabet with a delicate tongue. She stood there chewing on it for a moment, and it was then that I heard Elizabet gasp.
“She said her name is Lola. And that she’ll follow us wherever we go. And that you…” she trailed off and turned to stare at me with an arched brow. In a low, dangerous tone she said, “
What. Did. You. Do?”
I knew that tone. I sighed and shook my head. “Thanks, Lola. I was going to get around to that shortly.” I said in a wry voice. I looked Elizabet in the eye. “I appear to be able to control the weather to a degree. I don’t know to what extent it goes, but…. I sang a song into existence,” I said, defeated.
Elizabet looked confused. “You… Wait, you can
sing?”
Liss-ran piped up. “His voice is rich and deep, too! It was nice,” she said with a little giggle.
“And
loud. He has some lung power, he does,” Tren-sun added.
“Does anybody
else wish to make her even
more upset with me than she already is?” I asked in a loud, exasperated tone. “No? Thank you.”
“Try it again, Ivor. Tell me what you did,” Elizabet said firmly, crossing her arms beneath her prodigious chest.
“Yes,
genius. Tell us what wonder you pulled out of your ass
this time,” Blainaut said, coming up from behind Elizabet.
“Oh, gods. Not
again,” I said, hanging my head.

“Nah. Don’t worry about it. She’ll be able to understand you, and will take you home no sweat. If she decides to stick around, I might uhh… claim her. Have your woman try to bond with her.”
I laughed and let the matter drop. “Okay Walter. Thanks man. If there’s anything I can do for you, let me know. Oh. We’re leaving the week after last frost. Heading to Klearm. If you could meet us in Haruma beforehand, I’ll make sure you’re fed well and your coat is nice and shiny.”
“You got it, Boss!
“Sleigh bells ring, are you listening?....” My rich baritone rang out through the forest, echoing off the trees and the mountain beside us.
As I came back to my senses, I realized I was sweating profusely, and my stomach was protesting loudly.
“Ivor. What. Did. You.
“Huh?”
“Ivor, we couldn’t understand a word of that. Are you telling me that you didn’t realize you were singing in the Ancient Tongue?” Liss-ran asked gently.
Realization hit me like a truck. I sang the weather into existence. I could only guess that I may have created a new species of bird.
There were only twenty or so,” she replied.
Or, more specifically, she faced Elizabet.
In a low, dangerous tone she said, “What. Did. You.
“You… Wait, you can sing?”
Liss-ran piped up. “His voice is rich and deep, too! It was nice,” she said with a little giggle.
“And loud. He has some lung power, he does,” Tren-sun added.
“Does anybody else wish to make her even more upset with me than she already is?” I asked in a loud, exasperated tone. “No? Thank you.”
“Try it again, Ivor. Tell me what you did,” Elizabet said firmly, crossing her arms beneath her prodigious chest.
“Yes, genius. Tell us what wonder you pulled out of your ass this time,” Blainaut said, coming up from behind Elizabet.
“Oh, gods. Not again,” I said, hanging my head.

2023.06.01 21:58 horsebycommittee Litigation Status – Biden-Harris Debt Relief Plan (June 2023 - Waiting for Supreme Court Decision)
The Supreme Court heard oral arguments on Feb 28 in two cases challenging the $20K/$10K debt forgiveness program. No action is expected until the Court issues its decisions, which could happen any day between now and June 30th.
For a detailed history of these cases, and others challenging the Administration’s plan to forgive up to $20K of debt for most federal student loan borrowers, see our prior megathreads: May '23 April ‘23 March '23 Oral Argument Day Feb '23 Dec '22/Jan '23 Week of 12/05 Week of 11/28 Week of 11/21 Week of 11/14 Week of 11/7 Week of 10/31 Week of 10/24 Week of 10/17
To read the written briefs in both cases, look at their dockets:
You can hear the oral arguments again and read written transcripts of the arguments on the Court's website here: https://www.supremecourt.gov/oral_arguments/argument_audio.aspx
Current status:
We are waiting. The justices have discussed the case at least once in their private conferences and almost certainly have begun the process of writing an opinion. This takes several weeks and involves significant back-and-forth discussions between the justices and their law clerks. The justice assigned to write the majority opinion will send drafts around to the other justices to get their comments and will make changes as needed to keep or gain votes. Other justices will also circulate their own concurring/dissenting opinions, seeking to gain votes for their position or at least force the majority opinion to address a tough argument or related topic. Sometimes this collaboration even results in vote changes that flip a dissent into being the new majority opinion.
The Court will likely release the opinions in Nebraska and Brown on the same day, possibly in a single consolidated opinion, and can do so at any time once they are finished. The Court has a longstanding practice of resolving all of its pending cases before taking its summer break in July, which is why everyone is saying with confidence (though not absolute certainty) that these cases will be decided by the end of June. It could be earlier, especially since these cases were already argued on an expedited basis, but is unlikely to be later than June 30th.
The Court usually announces a day or two in advance that it is going to release opinions in argued cases, but never says which cases it's going to release until the moment of the announcement. You can watch the Court's calendar on its website for Opinion Issuance Days (colored yellow) or Non-Argument Days (dark blue) -- starting at 10 a.m. on those days, the Court could release opinions in these cases.
This term, the Court has been releasing opinions at its slowest pace in 100 years -- so there are quite a few pending decisions and nobody knows how (if at all) that will impact the timing of the decisions in Nebraska and Brown.
What is the Court actually deciding?
Both cases present the same two questions. The first is do the plaintiffs challenging the debt relief program have “standing” to be in court at all? Then, if they do have standing, is creating the debt relief program a lawful use of the Secretary of Education’s powers under the relevant statutes and the Constitution?
(These cases and this megathread are only about the Debt Relief plan. Other elements of the Administration’s student loan policies – including changes to the PSLF program, bankruptcy rules, income-driven repayment plans, Disability Discharge, Borrower Defense, and the Covid-19 loan pause – are not part of these cases or currently before the Supreme Court.)
What is “standing”?
Under Article III of the Constitution, federal courts are only supposed to get involved in “cases or controversies.” Over many decades, the Supreme Court has interpreted this command to mean that in order to bring a lawsuit in federal court, you have to have a direct relationship to whatever conduct you’re alleging is unlawful. If you want to challenge a government action as being unlawful or unconstitutional, you need to show that you have or will suffer harm because of the action — if the action only benefits you or has no effect on you, then your action challenging it wouldn’t really be a case or controversy. You’re annoyed, not harmed in a legal sense. Someone else might be a proper plaintiff to challenge the action, but not you, so your case will be dismissed if you lack standing.
The Court has said a plaintiff must show three elements to have standing: (1) a specific injury, (2) that was or will be caused by the challenged conduct, and (3) that will likely be fixed or reasonably compensated for if the court rules in their favor. Each of those elements has been further refined by lines of cases applying the standing doctrine so don’t go thinking that reading a two-paragraph summary on reddit means that you really know standing, this is just a top-level description.
If the Court holds that none of the challengers have standing, then that will be the end of the case and we won't get a decision on the merits question:
Is the debt relief plan lawful?
The Biden Administration thinks that it is and has vigorously defended it in multiple courts. The government’s primary justification cites 20 U.S.C. 1098bb, part of the the HEROES Act, which was initially passed on a temporary basis in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, renewed and expanded twice in the following years, and then made permanent by Congress in 2007. That law allows the Secretary of Education to "waive or modify" federal student loan obligations “as the Secretary deems necessary in connection with a war or other military operation or national emergency” for borrowers affected by the war or emergency. The basis here is the national emergency relating to the COVID-19 pandemic and its nationwide impact on middle-class and poor borrowers.
The challengers (obviously) disagree, arguing that even if the text of the statute is met, Congress clearly never intended to authorize a program of this size and scope with such general and expansive language. Had Congress intended for the Secretary to be able to forgive loans outright (rather than merely change the repayment terms or pause payments during a crisis), Congress would have specifically said so in the statute rather than bury it in the phrase “waive or modify.”
The Brown challengers separately argue that the Secretary was required to follow the Administrative Procedure Act’s "notice and comment" process before creating the program. The Secretary didn’t do notice and comment because the HEROES Act powers don't require it, so this issue is entangled with the question of whether the HEROES Act is a valid basis for the program.
When will the loan pause end?
Under the most recent extension, if the Supreme Court gives a final decision either permitting the debt relief program to go forward or firmly declaring it unlawful, then the federal loan pause will end (and interest will resume) 60 days after that decision is released. However, if that doesn't happen by June 30, then the loan pause will end 60 days later on August 29, 2023. (The pause could be extended again if there's good reason to, but the Biden Administration has signaled that it's not looking to extend it further and Congress might take that option off the table anyway.)
If the Court sides with the government in these cases, what happens to the other lawsuits challenging the plan?
When the Supreme Court makes a ruling, it happens in two parts. The opinion explains why the court is ordering whatever it is ordering and the mandate is the actual formal order to the lower court affirming, reversing, vacating, or otherwise modifying the lower court's action.
While the Supreme Court can order that its mandate issue sooner (or later), the default rule is that the mandate issues 32 days after the opinion is released. (See Supreme Court Rule #45.) So if the Court says there's no standing in Brown and Nebraska, then there will be an opinion issued giving the detailed reasoning and then an order telling the lower courts to dismiss these cases, but that order won't be sent to the lower courts for more than a month and their injunctions against the program could remain in effect until then.
This will give time for those lower courts to prepare to follow the Supreme Court's order and also for litigants in any of the other active cases (Cato, Laschober, Garrison, and Badeaux) to ask for new injunctions against the debt relief program (if the Supreme Court's ruling doesn't foreclose them too). The effect on the other cases will depend on what exactly the Supreme Court says here.
If the debt relief plan is allowed to proceed, more than 16 million borrowers will get forgiveness soon after, with no further action needed by them. Borrowers who still need to apply for the forgiveness will have until December 31 to do so under the original plan rules (this date could also be extended).
What happens if the Court strikes down the debt relief plan?
It depends on exactly what the Court's reasoning is. Perhaps it will leave open the possibility of a smaller version of the plan (covering fewer borrowers, forgiving less money, or both) or perhaps the plan could be allowed if the government provides more robust justification or cites different legal authority. It's also possible that the Court leaves no reasonable possibility of success, which would send the Biden Administration back to square one, looking for a forgiveness plan via legislation or providing some other relief to borrowers (maybe more extensions of the payment pause or a reduction in interest rates).
Multiple news outlets have reported that the Administration is preparing backup plans in case the Court rules against the current plan. (This is common whenever a case gets to the Supreme Court and isn't necessarily a sign that the Administration expects to lose.) So we might hear about those other ideas pretty soon after an adverse ruling. Of course, we shouldn't expect to learn what those backup plans actually are, unless and until they are needed.
What happens if the Court doesn’t make a decision by June 30th?
There is no rule that the Court must act by a given date but, by custom, the Court disposes of all its argued cases by June 30 and then takes its summer recess. Rarely, if a case isn't decided by then, the Court can keep issuing opinions into July (this happened in 2020, when Covid-19 delayed the Court's work and several opinions were released the first week of July) or the Court will set the case to be re-argued in the next term (which starts in October), usually because there isn't a five-justice majority to make a decision. When a case is set for re-argument, the Court usually directs the parties to brief a new question or focus on a particular issue that is giving the justices trouble in forming a majority.
(In either scenario, we might see an extension of the loan pause or we might not. That will be up to the White House and Department of Education to decide.)
This megathread will remain up through June or until the decisions are released, whichever comes first. As usual, the normal sub rules still apply.
We've also pretty thoroughly hashed out in the prior megathreads the various reasons people are personally in favor or opposed to the debt relief plan, why President Biden's timing in announcing it was good / not good, and whether the Supreme Court justices are impartial or not. So I especially welcome original takes and questions on other areas of this topic, including speculating how the Court will rule and why.

2023.06.01 21:57 BazF91 Discussion #255: Europa '51 (1952)
Director: Roberto Rossellini
As much as it is loved by critics,
Europa ‘51 is not a film I remembered watching before coming to this discussion post, and I had it mixed up in my mind with Rossellini’s
Journey to Italy, also starring Ingrid Bergman, which made a much more distinct impression on me. Without much context for this film, I struggled to follow the story, which seemed to consist mainly of Bergman looking sadly at people and things.
With context in place - “What if St. Francis of Assisi was a wealthy woman in post-war Rome?” - the plot and morals of the story become much clearer. The film shows how society perceives selflessness as a form of insanity and that you can be persecuted as such. It also shows how callous the upper class can be, even towards their own children.
That’s all fine and dandy, but I can’t say I was moved by the film at all, as Bergman herself seems to remain an enigma, a shell of a person after her son commits suicide. She doesn’t really seem to be all there and it is hard to relate to her and the way she seems to just drift between scenes. I’m reminded of how impossible it was to relate to the Dalai Lama in Scorsese’s
Kundun, as the characters are painted to seem almost inhuman and perfectly saintly.
I could see why this film would be loved by many, but it’s just not for me. There’s very little driving the story forward, except for some circumstances that eventually lead Bergman’s character into a sticky situation. It’s a film that breaks some of the normal rules of storytelling, which is probably a good thing for cinema in general, but did not contribute to my enjoyment. If the film had been structured better with a more relatable main character, it would not have felt so tedious to sit through. As a minor note, it also felt sad to see the Italian neorealist movement which Rossellini effectively created come to an end as he started to hire more famous actors.
What do you think? Is this amongst Rossellini’s worst or his best?
4/10
