Hi all, I currently owe $1900 on a $2000-limit Discover card. I was looking into the details of my charges as I am trying to figure out all of my bills and trying to get out of debt. I am 24 and still figuring out life as best as I can on my own, but I am still ignorant with a lot of the details about credit cards.
I noticed I had a $35 charge of interest and I panicked and got kind of upset because I've never missed a payment and I always make the minimum payment, sometimes more. I always thought that if I made the monthly minimum payments on time then I wouldn't be charged interest and I went on throughout life for years thinking that... I didn't always owe this much but as of the past year and a half I have.
Now I want to pay it off and figure out how to use it properly, but I'm not sure the most effective way to get the balance down. Should I make daily micro-payments (like $8/day) as I go through the month and have extra to put towards that or should I just save up all of my extra money and then slap down a larger payment at the end of the month? My goal is roughly $200 - $250 a month as a payment on it. My current minimum is $57 a month and with my interest charges I'm really only paying like $22 on my principal balance...
I feel like I need to get the principal balance down asap so I'm not paying as much interest but I don't want to get into a situation where I have an unexpected bill during the month and don't have money to cover it? I guess I could use the credit card again if I really needed to but I really don't want to. I am using Rocket Money to track my income and help with budgeting but it is slow to update my balances which kind of throws me off.

I work at a private university. I am in the same school as the film department but I work in another area. It has come to my attention that a new tenure track professor is having students work on a feature film that will help this person get tenure. The professor isn’t paying the students or giving them credit. Furthermore they are paying out of pocket for gas and other stuff. One student has put $1000 so far on their personal credit card. It’s not clear if or when they’ll be reimbursed. This seems very unethical to me. Is this normal?

I purchased an item in the middle of April via credit card online. the order was delivered as expected. Today I received a sketchy looking email invoice saying that there was a payment processing error and my order had been refunded to me incorrectly and could I just pay for it now. Normally I would’ve ignored this email as spam, but the purchased item, price, and vendor all match up. I’m inclined to say “oh well, your loss” but I’m not so sure.

I hope this is a good place to start with our research, because we are pretty lost right now. I'll try to keep the smaller details to a minimum.
My father in law is a Vietnam veteran, in his 70s. He has had 100% VA disability for years + SS retirement. He has long ago reached the point where he can't be living at home anymore and we want him to move to a nursing center permanently, and we are finally getting around to convincing him/other relevant family of this. He recently had a string of hospital stays and ended up in a skilled nursing facility for about a month, through Medicare (we were told that getting it approved through the VA was too cumbersome). Sent home afterwards and now we are back to square one. We want a permanent solution.
Is there any way at all to get him set up at a nursing center in TX through the VA, or do we have to pursue other avenues? If it can be done through the VA, where do we even begin? Who do we talk to?
His financial situation: Between VA disability + SS retirement he makes a decent amount of money but certainly not enough to cover a facility 100%. Any remotely valuable assets are either still being financed or under a reverse mortgage. Lots of credit card and loan debt.

However, upon accepting my offer I learned that my hiring is contingent on a credit report, amongst other things. This is where the fairy tail ends. I’m 24 years old with credit card issues. I owe Chase themselves approximately $500. The account is now current but had to be closed by the company due to missed payments. I also owe another crediting company around $800 passed due ($5000+ limit maxed).
Do you think my job offer will be rescinded upon discovery of these credit issues? Or am I over reacting? Also wondering if it’s worth getting in front of it and letting the recruitemanagement know before my credit report gets back. Let me know your thoughts.

I had a meeting with my academic advisor at the end of the semester, who said I’ll be fine if my cumulative gpa is above a 2.0 this semester and it is. My fall semester went terribly for me and got an academic warning so this last semester I did all I could to bring my gpa above a 2.0, however I still failed a class this semester due to taking too many credits and working. My cumulative gpa is still above 2.0 and I did bring my fall semester’s “below 2.0” gpa to well above 2.0 in all categories (cumulative, technical, semester, etc.). I am in SEAS if that differs from the university policy.
I am retaking that failed class this semester session but it just feels hopeless on maintaining the 2.0 and getting out of probation if my cumulative gpa goes up but I’m still in probation. Is it still possible for me to appeal if I do well in the summer session? I know that my grade for the summer wouldn’t have an effect on previous semester’s grades so i’m just a little lost if it’s possible to still reverse that academic review without having to go through another full semester in the fall.
I made many dumb mistakes this semester like taking an extra course to bring up my gpa but then not having enough time to study for all those classes so i’m retaking a class this semester to hopefully get back on track and not lose my financial aid.
TDLR: my cumulative gpa is above 2.0 but semester is below 2.0 and I’m put on academic probation after this spring semester since my semester gpa is under 2.0, despite bringing my fall semester’s gpa well above a 2.0.

I (M, 32) have lived in our home for 3 years and have had consistent payments averaging $1,100 a month. These past two years, our home in Texas has assessed insanely high. In 2022, it went 190,000 to 235,000. This year 235,000 to 271,000. I was not able to file a protest last year, but did so this year. As a result of escrow shortage, monthly payment will go from $1,126 to $1,333.
I make $4,100 a month as a pastor and just had COLA raise this year to combat inflation. Next year, it may not be as much. With this and increasing personal debt ($13,000 in credit cards and $3,800 in medical due to new baby), I do not know how to be financially stable over my household.

Honestly from an outside viewpoint it seems ridiculous, but I'm worried nonetheless. I gave one of my parents my SSN, they are a lawyer and I needed help with some legal documents. I regretted it almost immediately. Yes they are a lawyer, and yes they are my parent, but I don't trust them in the slightest. We both live outside the US, I have no credit cards in my name or bank accounts. They don't have access to my birth certificate, but they do have a copy of an old expired passport of mine. Can they do me any real damage?
