This is my third TTRPG story. Context: I am DMing a homebrew campaign and for a month, I have been unable to play the campaign with my players because of IRL troubles. Finally got into the session and we pick up where we left off with the half elf centaur Guild Master giving the party a personal request to help her deal with the recent backlog of requests. The murder in an inn just that morning being the one given to the party. They all show up to the inn with some directions and are met by a closed sign on the door, but it's unlocked. The party spends a minute deciding if they wanna break the door before deciding not to and just opening it. They are then greeted by the halfling innkeeper waving hello. The party asks how she is doing before asking where the murder took place, and the innkeeper guides them up to the room before letting them in and going back downstairs to let the party investigate.
The party's actions are as follows: The Bloodrager: Licks the blood on the floor. The Investigator: Checks the room for any arcane signs, finds the doors in the inn have magic in them and then ignores them entirely. The Alchemist: Investigates the room, finding that the chest is dented in a dome shape in the back while the lock has been broken off. The Inquisitor: Casts Detect Magic on the room. Finds that the chest has magic on it. Investigates the chest and finds a Cutlass hidden in a groove in the bottom of the chest. The Kineticist: Rolls poorly and is in fact still in the hallway, Investigates dust bunnies. Identifies new species of dust bunny. They are proud of themself.
After finding the Cutlass, the Investigator inspects it as they have a backstory involving smithing. Being a dwarf they also recognize the craftsmanship to be dwarven in nature and likely a masterwork of sufficient age and quality, and is engraved with the initials of H.T. The investigator takes the sword and goes downstairs to ask the innkeeper if they know anyone with the initials of H.T. and are directed to a sailor at the docks named Hunt Teodore. They also now learn the name of the victim is Deleran, a known pickpocket. The party sees this as a good enough lead and runs off to the docks to ask about Hunt. It doesn't take long to find him through sailors arguing amongst themselves, and the Bloodrager introduces the party by calling the dwarven sailor, "It". The dwarf is angered by this and curses at the lizardfolk while making it known that he doesn't like any of the humanoid races he has met aside from dwarves.
The investigator talks with Hunt and finds that the Cutlass is a family heirloom of a Dwarven Naval clan, and that it had been stolen 3 months prior. The victim in question having been a prolific thief around the city for years, and after asking to hold onto the heirloom for evidence until the murder is solved, Hunt agrees as long as he gets it back before he leaves on another Naval expedition at the end of the week. Hunt hands over the decorated scabbard of the heirloom to keep it safe as opposed to being wrapped in a ragged cloth like it had been.
The investigator then asks if the thief had stolen from anyone else, or if they have any enemies. It is then learned that Deleran had stolen from almost everyone on the docks and they would likely have better luck talking with the Astrologer to learn more. Seeing a new lead, the party leaves towards the lighthouse, this is because there are 2 tall tower like buildings in the city. Arriving at the lighthouse, they are met by an old man sleeping in a rocking chair on the porch of the lighthouse. Waking him up and asking if he is the astrologer, but the party is then told he is just a lighthouse keeper. The party promptly apologizes and leaves without any further questions or talk.
Arriving at the second tall building, the Bloodrager attempts to break down the down, and finds that it is not even on it's hinges and falls flat on their face with the door in their hands. They find the astrologist is barely awake after being abruptly awoken by the guests who entered his home. Asking questions, they ask if he knows a Deleran to which he yells that he does, and so does everyone else. Digging through his cluttered floor of books, the Astrologist throws a few books around and tosses a book to the investigator. (The fail the dexterity check and it smacks them in the face.[No they don't take any damage, just comedic slap of pages to face.])
What they learn from the book it the recorded reports of theft from across the city of missing items and possessions that the astrologist has recorded. The party finds that the two main targets of his theft are a playwright, and an information broker. They travel up to the docks to find the playwright starring out to sea looking for mermaids. The playwright tells the party that Deleran had stolen the only copy of his play manuscript and it was never returned or found.
The party now seeks out the information broker after getting drunk at the docks with the sailors and ending up asleep in the inn. They meet up at the Adventurer's Guild with the information broker trading information with the desk attendant. The party asks about Deleran and the broker is visibly agitated at the mention of his name before asking what they want to know. The party explains his recent murder and their investigation before being given a 2 inch thick folder from his satchel that contains Deleran's official criminal record in the city.
At this point the party is lost and I give them the hint of "Sometimes the best places to look for important details are at the beginning." via the information broker. The Party then decided my clue meant going back to the starting town that was a month's travel away. At this point the session has ended because we hit time and players needed to disband to go do IRL things. (Work and such.)
I am absolutely lost and don't know what to do here. I have a culprit in mind and have tried to direct them with hints and clues.

I’ll start by saying my love language is gift giving. I love to give gifts and I don’t expect anything in return. Three years ago JNMIL gave my DH and I a kuerig. I was ecstatic and excited since I’d been wanting one for awhile and thanked JNMIL and told her how excited I was for the gift. The next year my DH and I were given a card containing a 100$ dollars. JNMIL’s DH (my DH’s stepdad) took me aside and told me that they didn’t want anyone to have to fake appreciation anymore so that’s why we got a card. Also they wouldn’t be giving actual gifts anymore. He was careful to say it quietly so no one else could hear him. That same Christmas the oldest SIL told me while opening a gift I gave her that she thought she had made it clear there wouldn’t be anymore gift giving. No one had told me and I was very embarrassed and felt horrible. The next year I stayed home with my youngest who was a newborn at the time and very fussy. Low and behold the oldest SIL got us a gift and I didn’t give them anything. The oldest SIL then messaged me and told me that they missed us and it must’ve been nice to stay home with the baby. Also let me know that she sent a book home with DH about how to raise babies. 🙄. I realize they loathe me completely, but what I don’t get is why not leave me alone when I stay home. Wouldn’t my absence be a relief? I get setting me up in no win situations.

Hi all. Looking for some guidance to my financial situation. TLDR is I am looking to weigh the pros / cons of taking out my Roth IRA amount to fund down payment on a house. My reasoning is that the money I have in that account would be better served as equity in a home that will appreciate at the same or higher rate of return that an IRA would and theoretically in 30 years would be a place I can a) live in and/or b) sell for retirement funding boosts. Out of all my securities, I've identified it as the most fungible for this cause. Just want to get a gut check from others. Hi all, this is my first post in the HVAC community, so please be patient with me and forgive any amateur mistakes or omissions.
Our home HVAC systems have been operating without any issues. A friend who owns an HVAC install/service business sent one of his techs to perform a “system tune-up” before the hot summer weather hits and let us know if anything in the system needs additional servicing or repair. The tech suggested some services and I want to make sure that these services actually need to be performed and whether the price is reasonable (for the Los Angeles County market).
The entire HVAC system is 6.5 years old and pretty much all equipment is Carrier brand + Nest thermostats. There are two separate systems — one for upstairs and one for downstairs. Each system has its blower unit and gas furnace in the attic and an AC condenser unit outside.
(1) Replace Dual Voltage Regulator on Condenser (on only one of the units) — $187. Tech explained that this voltage regulator / capacitor helps kickstart the condenser unit, and the unit for the upstairs system is ever so slightly out of spec. He stated that according to Carrier’s specs, the voltage should be between 4.7-5.0V, and the reading during his testing showed 4.6V. Given that this is only out of spec by 0.1V, does this need to be replaced now? If so, is $187 reasonable?
(2) Clean Condensate Lines — $450 ($225 x2 units) & Install Ceiling Saver Kit — $450 ($225 x2 units) —> $900 TOTAL. Tech examined the main blower units in the attic and noted that there are no signs of leaks or blocks in the condensate drain lines. Tech confirmed that in addition to the built in condensate drain lines, both units have a drip tray in case the line gets backed up. However, he suggested cleaning out the drain lines as a matter of maintenance ($450 for both lines). He also suggested installing a sensor that would turn off the blower unit in the event of a condensation overflow, but not sure if that constituted an entire “ceiling saver kit” ($450 for both units). Are these items needed, and if so, is $900 a reasonable price?

(Before I inevitably get things wrong - I’m just a Mech Eng Student and have no expertise in this area, but I thought I’d get some other opinions because I imagine there’s some great minds here).
Will it be possible for a private company, government or organisation to map the stock market with AI and Quantum computing, by knowing every transaction before it happens?
Conditions: there must be a quantum computer capable of decrypting any encryption possible in mathematics as we know it - one that is many years past our possible human understanding of encryption.

(not as important just a thought* This could also stem a mathematics area that is based in Encryption vs Decryption. If it turns out we can prove mathematically that it’s easier for a quantum computer to encrypt than to decrypt, this would save the situation. (Very tough maths and AI based question) ******)

After the message has been decrypted by the Quantum computer: a language model AI software scans through and obtains a general overview of all messages (or as many as plausible). They could map the stock market with AI by knowing every transaction before it happens using only: decryption, language processing and data analytics.

They could map the stock market with AI by knowing every transaction before it happens using only: decryption, language processing and data analytics.

However, anything that isn't the big four vans for conversion (Mercedes Sprint, Ford Transit, Nissan NV, Ram ProMaster) look really boring. I really enjoy the angular look that the 80's and early 90's had for vans. They are very unique compared to today's makes and models. If this van is going to be my home, I want something fun, exciting or unique.
I've been finding old salvage bids at auctions for dirt cheap. 80's misfit toys no one wants like an 87 Toyota Van Wagon. The physical therapist asked me everything I do at home and work and thinks it’s from using a box cutter so much at Target, based on the tendon that is affected.
Would this be considered for some kind of worker’s comp or not since there’s no way to really prove it?
I’ve worked for Target for 2 years and love working there, so I don’t want to give my nice HR ETL any headaches since my medical insurance is covering everything I need.

My conure (6 mos old), Gizmo, has severe separation anxiety. He screams anytime I’m out of sight. My husband WFH so he’s the one with him all day. He’s out with toys and snacks- so not stuck in his cage all day. Gizmo bites anyone else who puts their hand near him. For me, he usually just jumps right up. Anything I can do to help him (and also our ear drums)? I’ve read a few things on it and tried to implement them (e.g. not making a big deal of seeing him when I come home).

I doubt anyone would but no reposting. I’ve had to make a decision regarding my sisters dog. She is on holiday and I was in charge. Our bubbly Lacey got poorly on Tuesday night, vomiting. Wednesday morning I took her to the vets (The delay of 12 hours was due to her being a gutsy dog. She was a pincher and her sicking up after a pig out wasn’t unusual. She also pines for my sister when away so though could be this). Long and short she had a mass on her spleen, they thought cancer. All her organs were shutting down. Nothing could be done. I made the decision to have her put to sleep. My mum and I were with her at the end. She was loved and hugged and it was peaceful. She was as close to us as she was my sister so it was just as comforting as if my sister had been with her. After she passed a lot of blood and gunk came from her bum. So she was already rotting from the inside for want of a better word. I spent yesterday crying and crying and crying. I am confident in my decision to have her put to sleep. That was best for her. My worry is I’ve not told my sister. She doesn’t deal well with issues of this nature anyway. When Lace was poorly I would take her to the vet and I was trusted to make decisions (not bashing my sis. If she had to take her she would she just didn’t deal with that side well) but she’s in another country till Sunday morning oblivious. I plan to tell her Saturday morning on her last day, she then flies in the pm. I think waiting till she’s home isn’t he way to go but maybe that’s me being a coward. Advice? If it was me I wouldn’t want to know until last day think.

Then I go to apply for the next one and it prompts me to submit a resume or a cover letter. An instant defeated feeling. I have made cover letters and resumes in the past but now it just feels hopeless.
I'm 30 years old and I don't have a lot of prestigious accomplishments about myself. I dropped out of community college when I was 23 and I haven't had any jobs that I have been proud of to talk about my achievements of. I personally think I have what it takes to do an array of jobs but most of them want experience in the field to even hope for a chance at employment. I could write a cover letter expressing my interest and benefits to working for these companies but without any good connections or previous experience, how am supposed to find the right career for me?

This is in Indiana. As the title states, we had HVAC technicians in my home installing a new A/C unit last week. The fuse box is located at the back of an alcove where the bunk bed my sons sleep on is located. Next to their bed is a small, wire-framed book shelf full of books. The technician told my partner they would need to pull the book shelf out to access the fuse panel, which he said was fine. My sons were at their father's house that night, but the next night when we went to do tuck-ins, we saw the bed was broken. The corner post was ripped away from the rest of the bed. The screws that were holding it together had been ripped out. I obviously don't know what happened since the technicians didn't tell us about it, but it seems like a leg of the book shelf caught on this post and the technician decided to pull really hard instead of trying to uncatch it, and it pulled the bed apart.
I called the company right away to let them know about the issue. The person who answered the phone took my information and said they would forward the information to the customer service team. That was on a Friday evening. I called back on Monday afternoon and was told there was no update. I then called Tuesday, Wednesday, and now Thursday and have been told every time that my issue has not been reviewed. I'm beginning to worry that I will never hear a reply, and just want to know what my legal rights are here. I would like for them to pay me directly to replace the bed.
