My cat came home today from being outside for a few hours with this new completely hairless patch on his front leg. Do you know what it might be?
He seems to be in a bit of pain and walks around a bit stiffly and has difficulty jumping up to the sink to drink and such. He has less energy, and he has less appetite, but he still eats and he is able to pee and poop without difficulty.
He is a short-haired Maine Coon. He is a bit over 1 years old.

• **Clinical signs: Initially: Hair loss, a bit in pain (meaws when touched, but is not aggressive in any way), loss of balance (walks aroud a bit stiffly and fails to jump up to the sink to drink) lethargic, can only lick front paws and legs, but can urinate, eat, and poop. He is not aggressive.

Update: 10 days on, all the other symptoms are gone, but the hair loss is still visible and the skin underneath has turned from light red/pink to light blue/gray. Though he is more skittish to loud sounds than before his injury, otherwise he seems to be his normal self.

So there are a lot of variables in play here and multiple sides of the story so I understand that I am only giving my perspective of things but here it goes (apologies for it being so long)...
A few years ago my wife and I BOTH came to the decision that I should leave my current career (which has been so stressful and time consuming that it was causing significant medical problems for me) and start grad school to change to a career which I would be happier with and allowed me to be more present with my family.
We jointly agreed for me to leave my high paying, 70+ hour a week job and start graduate school. Almost immediately from the start, I realized that people SAYING they would support my decision and ACTUALLY supporting my decision were two different things. I became very isolated and alienated from my family as my spouse never supported it and always complained that it took too much time and getting mad at me when I would confide that I had a stressful assignment or class coming up. My mother-in-law would actively snort or laugh whenever I mentioned that I had a big assignment due or something that I had to take care of for school.
It's at this point that I should say that the job I got while in grad school was a lot less hours (still full time) but didn't pay anywhere near what I was making but made me VERY happy. As a result, my spouse started keeping a ledger of what I wasn't able to pay and shared this constantly with my mother-in-law. I agree that I took too long staying at the low paying job, but once it clicked that my spouse was struggling more than I was aware, I quit that job and went back to my high-stress, 60+ hour work week so that I could regain the ability to fulfill my financial obligations. My spouse still said that I need to pay every penny back from what I wasn't able to pay and I started feeling financially doomed and started running behind on a lot of critical things (e.g. car payments, credit card bills, etc.) all the while the disdain for my schooling was becoming increasingly aggressive and mocked) I started feeling very lonely and even more isolated. We had our first son after the first year or so of grad school and everything fell apart.
It's at this point I should say that I have struggled with sex addiction for years. While I never physically cheated on anyone, I would engage in internet or chat based sexual experiences. This picked up even more while I was married and even more while I was in grad school. I'm not proud of it, and I understand how much it hurt my spouse when they found out. It's easy to say that I honestly thought in a weird way that it wasn't cheating because I wasn't physically with anybody or even somebody that I knew, but I realize now that's not the case. It may be pointless to say this but I was also a very lonely person and the gratification I felt helped me feel at least momentarily better about myself.
About a year ago my wife found out about this and, understandably, I was kicked out of the house for about 4 to 5 months and came extremely close to losing her and my family. Thankfully, with a lot of therapy and work on myself, we were able to get past my indiscretions and start rebuilding our relationship. As part of this, I agreed to take a year off from graduate school. I restarted this past fall (a semester early only because I was required to by my program or face expulsion) with only 1 class as I had to be a registered student to start the process of applying for a program required internship to complete my grad degree. During couple's therapy we talked about how internship would somewhat remove me from time spent with the family and that I would only do it if everyone agreed it was doable and ok. Everyone agreed. I brought up how alienated I felt by everyone laughing and sneering at something that was so important for me... Then I asked again, several times, making sure everyone was comfortable with this process. Everyone agreed I should do it.
During this time, my partner brought up the fact that they really wanted another baby (which I did too but felt it was still early on in the rebuilding phase of our relationship). We had gone through IVF and had several fertilized embryos just waiting. We decided to have another baby who is due at the end of June. "We" also decided that it was a good time to sell our house and move (keep in mind we didn't have the finances for it, something which I brought up vehemently time and time again...like, "How can we do this? How will we pay for everything?")
Part of the agreement on another baby was moving closer to my in-laws so that they could help with the kiddos. My in-laws had several conversations with my spouse that I wasn't part of saying that they would help financially with a new house or rent until we could get our current house sold and get settled in a new place. Part of the reason for the move was also to be closer to them so that they could help with our two little boys. At this point I should say that we rely heavily on my in-laws because I don't have any family that could help or be responsible enough to be trusted (mom passed away after battles with substance use, bi-polar disorder, and suicide, and dad is on the autism spectrum and battles a substance use disorder which sees him in and out of addiction programs several times a year).
So fast forward another 9 months and we are ready to have another baby but out of nowhere 4 days ago, my partner tells me that they want me to take ANOTHER year off to be present with the family and help. I admit I was angry because, while to some it may not be a big deal, for me, it's one of the first things in my life that I have felt I have accomplished on my own as well as something that makes me happy and not constantly weighed down by stress, anxiety, and depression.
Against my wishes, because I care for my family, I agreed to ask for another year off. I met yesterday with a facilitator of the program and they said that pushing off internship another year would not be a big deal. Today I received an email from the department saying that I can take a year off, I just have to remain a registered student (because I can't take another leave without being kicked out of the program). This means finishing the 1 class I am in this semester, and taking 1 simple class next semester so that I can restart the internship process in January 2024 to obtain an internship by next year - July 2024. This is their process and I cannot change it.
After being devastated that I had to do this in the first place, but understanding why, I spoke with my spouse today and showed them the email. They immediately became inconsolable because they said this isn't a full year off and that I won't be present with the family and the new baby (which I WOULD be but also a reason why we were moving closer to in-laws to begin with). After a little bit of conversation, they also let slip that they talked with my mother-in-law today and, without even bringing up that I may have to take another class before internship starts, they said that if I take any classes AT ALL, they will NOT provide the significant financial support they agreed to so that we could move to an area closer to them (an area that they chose because they don't want to drive far and also an area that is VERY expensive). The kicker is, we just signed a 12 month lease for a house to rent while we sell OUR house and we move in to the new house in 2 days. More upsetting, is the fact that we will have to pay our mortgage AND rent until our house sells which we ONLY AGREED was a good plan BECAUSE our in-laws offered (we didn't ask) to provide significant financial support to make it possible...without it we are royally screwed and will probably lose the house.
So I am sitting here, understanding everybody's point of view, but feeling like like personal future has just been relegated to working in a career that will probably kill be by the age of 50, being forced into a situation which will make me quit my grad program AT THE VERY TAIL END OF THE ENTIRE PROCESS, as well as leave me about $70k more in debt than I started with for something that I won't even get all the while feeling as though I have no say in how my own life turns out...
Everybody literally called me crazy because I dared voice concern that I didn't feel like anyone supported my being in grad school even though they said they did and I am also being made to feel like I don't contribute to anything (which I am now back to working 60 hours a week with an hour commute each day 5 days a week while paying for a lot of stuff, now more than my half (which for the record I am totally ok with for that last part, still doing grad school AND still being a good parent to my son and helping with household chores (my partner doesn't clean, do laundry, or dishes AT ALL...It's all on me to get done and always has been).
If anyone bothered to read this whole thing, does anyone have any advice or words of wisdom on how to move forward?

So we go outside numerous times a day.. and I was going insane with the constant swiffering and mopping. Like seriously so over it.
This has been a game changer. Absolutely worth the money.
I will say some cons :
This thing takes forever to do my 1800sq² home.... mainly because of battery life.
1 pass does not mop the floors THAT great if you have alot of dirt. After 1 pass of vacuum+mop I always do 2+ more passes with just mopping mode.... soo it takes a while.
For example we recently did lawn prep for sodding and the dirt on the floors lasted for days. It took probably 3 or 4 days of the robot mop constantly going for hours daily downstairs (until battery runs out..) until the floors looked fairly clean and the dirty water was closer to clear than brown. I ended up doing my upstairs myself just to get the job done.
Dried mud prints can & often need more than 1 pass. Hot water mixed with a tiny drop of Blue Dawn Dishsoap works well (I don't put cleaning solution on my floors.. except vinegar+water every now and then).
The battery life is super annoying to me.
For example, today I started at 100%, it is 2/3s of the way complete downstairs... and already on 58%. I will need to let it charge a bit before doing the 2nd pass downstairs with Mop only.
Charging back to 100% takes 6 hours... soo yeah. This thing takes a while.
However.. you can let this thing go daily and then you yourself just have to mop by hand once a week or biweekly to do a deep clean (this helps to ensure dirty water runs clear).
You can set it to specific spots of the house too (like the high traffic areas) which I often do.
Maintenance. After 1 month if having this thing though, I use it so much that I have a warning to replace the little rotating debris brush within 60some more uses bc theyre worn. I also have a warning to replace the mop pads soon. I had to change out the dirt bag within 4 weeks of use which is normal (and the lawn prep work realllllyyy had a crazy amount of dirt through my home) Other maintenance like wiping dust off sensors or cleaning the dust bin parts happened 2 or 3 times in 4 weeks which wasn't a big deal bc takes a few minutes.
Is it worth it ? For me yes. I can not stand dirty floors and like to have my dirty water run clear. I am constantly outside with my dog and so dirt gets tracked inside daily (despite wiping his paw pads or even hosing them off).
It is so nice waking up and not having the dread of having to do your floors again from the mess the day before.
Also, before the robot, keeping up with the disgusting amount of dog hair under your socks was impossible. Hopeless. Our socks have way less dog hair on them now.
It saves you ALOT of time and energy and stress from having to do your floors constantly.
Newer models should improve -- This usually lands within Top 3 on the market (on Youtube reviews). I got this on sale for $1000.00cad from Costco.

one of my sisters two suddenly passed today. we don't know the exact time, but we think it was within an hour of finding her.
she showed absolutely no sign of sickness neither before nor after passing. her fur was as usual and she laid as if she was only sleeping peacefully.
my sister is genuinely one of the best piggie moms. they had a spacious cage, fresh veggies every day, pellets, unlimited hay & water, and so much love from my sister. she has even spent a lot of her own money on cage stuff for them (she's a minor but not a kid, hence why i mentioned it being her own money.)
she's heartbroken and seeing her like this is absolutely gut wrenching. two of our previous piggies have passed similarly out of the blue and of a very similar age (almost 3 years old), but those two passed before we knew how big of a space that should be provided, so i guess i kind of assumed that was partly to blame for their sudden death.
i just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced anything like this with similar circumstances. my sister feels so much guilt and is convinced that it's her fault because she hadn't had the piggie out of her cage in a week since she was busy with school.

American Loyalist Troops 1775–84 is a long, boring and dry compilation of every known unit of Loyalist troops in the war and whether they used red, green or blue coats. The Osprey veteran René Chartrand packs as much information as he could find to fill this 48 pages Man-at-Arms book. The resut is an endless list of unit names with a stub of one or two short paragraphs detailing basic pieces of uniform like buttons, coat facings and other memorabilia of interest only for modellers and reenactors.
It doesn't read as the usual René Chartrand book, and is clearly below his high standards. The list of units is too long and most of the information is too vague for the narrative to flow normally. The plates are okay, but nothing outstanding. In one of the good plates (E3) a ranger from Jessup's Loyal Rangers stands above a bluecoat he killed in the bush. Plate A2 has a black ex-slave of the Ethiopian Regiment with "Liberty to Slaves" written on his shirt. The rest is very repetitive and bland.
The photographs of pieces of cloth, flags and portraits are too dark and blackened to be useful. One portrait of LtCol Banastre Tarleton is well represented, which is nice. The portrait of Thayeadanegea (Joseph Brant), the Mohawk Chief, is too dark to be useful.
The loyalists are described as being a no insignificant 20% of the population in the original 13 Colonies and coming from recent migrants from Britain, public servants, landowners and businessmen with strong ties with the metropole, freed black slaves and ordinary citizens that felt the Crown would protect their rights better than "the rampaging advocates of 'Liberty,' who in practice often turned violently upon anyone who disagreed with their arguments." Since the revolutionaries were quick to seize property of those who opposed the independence, and massacred loyalist troops and hanged loyalist officers, that's not far fetched.
The main contributions of the loyalist "Tories" was to provided highly accurate intelligence, light infantry and cavalry units that placed the revolutionaries in a plain field for a larger, more powerful regular British army to maneuver and fight in the bigger battles; with many ranger and loyal regiments and legions. Without the French and the Spanish there is no way the 13 colonies would have won. The most effective loyalist units were the Butler's Rangers, the British Legion, the Loyal American Legion and the Queen's Rangers. Other units have pompous names like "Royal Fencible Americans" and "Emmerich's Chasseurs". Some units were big enough to fight in pitched battles while many others were too small to anything but understrength garrison duty. The main commands were New York, Canada and the Caribbean, all three conducting their operations independently.
This book's subject is too vast and should have been done in three volumes so each region could be explored properly, from the Canadian wilderness to the more adventuresque Caribbean fighting against the Spanish. The odyssey of United Corps of Pennsylvania & Maryland Loyalists is quite interesting, being sent to Pensacola via Jamaica, they were captured by the Spanish in Pensacola and sent as prisoners to Havana, in Cuba. Being exchanged they were sent back to New York until resettled in New Brünswick after the war.
Oddballs were French Canadian settlers who were forced into service, including with threats from conscripting two married men to each deserter, and Indians serving with the British; given that expansion into Indian lands was a major factor in the deflagration of the war it is easy to see why.
The book ends with the loyalists being ressettled as units, accompanied with their families, into British Canada. The British governament cared for them until their communities became self-sustained. Many had been persecuted and had their property seized; some were murdered. Five great fleets resettled over 35,000 loyalists and their families in Canada. A woman is mentioned as not having shed a tear during the war but being overcome by grief as, while holding her baby, she watched the ships that resettled them sail away; but doesn't really quote what she said. Page 40 depicts a draft of loyalists drawing lots for their land alongside their wives. After all lots were set, the units were disbanded. Chartrand then presents a vast bibliography and the plate details.
The mindset of those men and women really warrant further study, such as a Warrior title. Recently Osprey announced a Combat title and that's a good thing. René Chartrand ends his narrative with the words "Indeed, although the fact is largely unappreciated in present-day Canada, it was the Loyalists who brought north many of the basic political and cultural institutions that now largely define the modern nation. Like the French-Canadians they joined in their new country, the Loyalists surmounted the consequences of a lost war, and built a new and forward-looking society that preserved their ideals."

I just really started to grow from a few random Graphic Novel collections and about 1 short box of singles to a bunch of storylines that can or do overlap between different volumes/editions and almost a long box in singles. So, something such as a "Firsts" collection and then actually having Volume 1 of an included comic... I'd like to easily identity the overlap or duplication.
I'm starting to populate League of Comic Geeks since the price is right to poke around with, and I see it will show me all the individual comics in a volume, but when I search for a single or add a volume I know has overlap, I don't see a way to bring the overlap/duplication to my attention without digging into each entire and looking (and that's not any better than how I'm doing it today really).
So 1st question is, am I missing something with League of Comic Geeks? Or, does CLZ have some sort of feature like this for noticing overlap or duplication?
I also have alot of singles that I know overlap with the Volumes too... So spotting those so I can clear up space would be great too.

In general I don't wear sunglasses at all because I like to enjoy the world as it is. However I have a Person calligrapher in blue not polarised lens which I rarely wear.
I would like to get a proper sunglasses just to have one at least. I tried Maui Jim Lele Kawa and while I liked how the world looked in them, I didn't like the sporty look of it and shiny mirror finish (this is stuff is bloody hard to get in Europe as stock is mostly out of stock).
I tried today a Serengeti 555nm and boy, I didn't expect to like a green lens! This stuff is really good however I feel my eyes are impacted, like tired and fatigued (Delio model is rather heavy also).
Is that some to expect with polarisation and I will get used to it, or it is a sign that I should not get a polarised sunglasses?

My boyfriend doesn’t want me to keep this baby. I could not go through with an abortion. Today I got my first ultra sound and I’m 8w2d, and I saw the little heartbeat. Apparently I took too long for my BF, and when I got in the car I was back to being lectured on how I shouldn’t keep this baby, how I’m not ready to be a mom and I’m not going to be his wife. I’ll be 25 when the baby comes, he’ll be 26, and he said he is not ready to settle down. This is all ok with me since he didn’t want me to have the baby, I will not force him to be a father.
Little does he know while he is talking shit to me, I’m scared to death, (and appalled) for my future and my child’s because I don’t want to be around someone so angry and hateful. I really did a number this time, and now I’m stuck with him- whether we’re together or not, for the rest of my life. I will love this baby until my heart stops beating. I thought I would be able to get an abortion but I just can’t. And I already feel like a terrible mom for bringing a child into this world with a father who doesn’t want them, and a rough financial situation. I know it will all work out but I am devastated that this is how my first pregnancy will be. Oh well.

How do I let go of the feeling/want/need of being hugged by my Dad? Not my biological Father. He was highly abusive, and thankful I cut ties with him years ago. I’m talking about the Dad I created in my mind to self-parent. I feel silly doing it, but self-parenting has helped me a lot. The Dad, I imagine, is everything I ever wanted in a Father. Over time I hope to become that Dad for myself. But I want him to be real and to feel him hug me so firmly, tell me how proud he is of me. I must let it go because it’s a reality that will never happen.
I have accepted that I grew up in a racist/abusive household. I understand how my parents became abusive. Mother raped as a child. Father a product of rape. No love from their parents and neglect from everyone. It isn’t shocking they both became grandiose narcissistic. I forgive them for all the abuse they inflected on me. I cannot hold onto the anger and hurt anymore. It has physically started to affect me, and I am unwilling to allow it to have the hurt have any hold on me.
However, the resentment I have over my past is so deep within my spirit I'm finding it difficult to shake away. My parents made a conscious choice to have a child. I wasn’t a mistake or a surprise baby; I was a planned pregnancy. These two people went out of their way to have a child after knowing each other for less than a year. Two people constantly in pain then turn their pain onto their child.
There were no adults I could turn to. No family, teachers, or school staff. I would get beat up at home and then at school for being the effeminate high, voiced small kid. I would go to teachers, school staff, and the nurse and nobody did anything. Nobody stepped up and said, “What the hell is going on? Why is this kid black and blue?” It’s difficult letting go of the resentment towards those who did nothing. Everyone saw what was happening and looked away.
Does anyone have any advice on letting go of this want and my resentment?

For the past week or so I've been having really bad pelvic and crotch pain. It sometimes feels like lightning crotch, but there's also just this constant pressure in the crotch that makes it hurt to walk. I walk very very slow now cause it just hurts so bad. I've been playing around with my pregnancy support belt to try and lift baby up but it's not doing much.
Is there any way to relieve this pain or is it just because baby is sitting so low and putting constant pressure down there? Am I stuck with this pain until after birth?
I'm 32 weeks today.

I had an early private scan last week to find out our baby’s gender. My now husband and I got married on Tuesday and after the ceremony we surprised our guests with a confetti cannon to reveal the gender of our little boy 💙 We’re so excited! It was such an amazing day! We immediately went and bought the cutest little blue dressing gown with bear ears! Never thought I’d be a boy mum but now that I know I will be, I’m so excited 🩵

As someone who went through a breakup recently I’m familiar with a lot of the standard breakup terms, breadcrumbing included, and I’m wondering if it’s considered the same thing when a friend does it?
For context, My best friend and I went through a pretty messy friendship ‘breakup’ earlier this year and we haven’t spoken a whole lot since. The whole friendship breakdown was over what was essentially a misunderstanding, and I’ve done everything I can to try and have a conversation about it in person to clear the air between us, but she’s not been interested.
Anyway, after months of not talking at all, today she reached out to me out of the blue to ask if I was in town (I’m not). We had a brief conversation and now she’s back to leaving me on read. I’m feeling so sad and deflated, quite similar to how I felt when my ex used to do the same thing.
I guess I’m just trying to make sense of how I feel, and how I process moving forward? Is this breadcrumbing, am I overreacting? I don’t want to keep being pulled back and forth, as much as I want my best friend back in my life, feeling like I’m in limbo is so hard.

My wife is pregnant with twin boys. At the 20 week scan, they found one cyst on the left kidney of Baby A. Today, at the 28 week scan, they found multiple cysts on both kidneys. Doctor said this could indicate several different diseases but we wouldn’t know until after birth. Worst case scenario is still birth, best case scenario is a problem that may develop in adulthood.
The fluid around the babies is normal and the bladder is working normally. No evidence of blockage.
Now that I’m home, I started googling but it’s freaking me out. I don’t even know if this is a kidney disease. I just know what the doctor told us wasn’t good and the doctor seemed concerned.
I don’t even know what I’m posting here. Maybe some similar stories with good news?

Hi. I’m a Canadian and I arrived in Paris after 14 hours of travel to find that the lock box at my Airbnb rented apartment had no key inside. After 45+ min of waiting at 10:30pm (standing there with my screaming baby) the host arrived and opened the door with his spare key to find that people were in our rented apartment and they had double booked it (???). They put us in a 1 bedroom in the same building for the night. We rented a 2 bedroom. They were barely even apologetic. Today they messaged saying the maid would clean our actual apartment and we could move our things over as soon as 3:30pm. We agreed. We went out sightseeing and I received a message from the host saying she “had the maid move our things to the apartment” (the place we actually rented). Nobody asked us to leave our packed bags at the door or asked us if they could enter or touch our things or move our things. I replied saying she had no right to enter and move our things and she replied “it’s already done”. We were FURIOUS. I am still so angry and I feel this must have violated Airbnb rights??!!! Can anyone chime in and offer advice? I have told Airbnb customer service but I have asked them not to contact the host yet since we need a place to stay while we are in Paris.
It cannot be allowed that the host packed and moved all of our things without permission while we were out? Please any advice is helpful. “Merci”
