SEOUL, June 1 - South Korea succeeded in a test of a key homegrown missile interceptor under development earlier this week, the third such success out of four tests so far, as it is cranking up efforts to deter evolving North Korean threats.
On Tuesday, the state-run Agency for Defense Development revealed to the press corps the whole process of the interception test on the Long-range Surface-to-Air Missile at its Anheung testing site in Taean, 109 kilometers southwest of Seoul, for the first time.
The L-SAM is a three-stage structure, including the final-stage "Kill Vehicle." Designed to shoot down an incoming ballistic missile at altitudes of 50-60 kilometers, it is a key element of the country's low-tier multilayered anti-missile shield, called the Korea Air and Missile Defense.
"The L-SAM capability that extends the missile defense to the upper layer of the terminal phase will not only improve the capabilities to respond to North Korean missile threats but also contribute greatly to strengthening the missile defense capability of the South Korea-U.S. alliance," Lee said.
South Korea's KAMD program consists of multiple interception systems, including the Patriot Advanced Capability-3 missile and the Cheongung-II medium-range surface-to-air missile, which are to be employed for interception at altitudes of 40 km or lower.
In addition to this, the U.S. Forces Korea operates a THAAD battery in the southeastern county of Seongju, reinforcing the allies' missile defense capabilities.

I'm writing this post to get some help with the travel logistics and the broad strokes of the itinerary. I've tried to time things so that we'll be hiking on weekdays and so that we can go to a particular templestay. Here's what I have so far:

A few questions:
- Is two full days in Sokcho enough, especially with more than one day hike in Seoraksan? We could add a day if we end up skipping Suncheon (see below).
- It doesn't seem very realistic to check out of the temple stay on the 29th and get to Suncheon the same day. Would others agree? Does anyone have any suggestions for how to handle that part of the itinerary? We're open to replacing Suncheon with another location (maybe somewhere closer to Busan).
- We were also considering hiking in Jirisan (instead of going to Suncheon), but the logistics seem like they might be difficult for someone without any Korean language skills. Is this true in anyone's experience? Are there other good hiking spots in the south that might be more accessible?

Korean faction mechanics could feature using agents to maintain provincial loyalty, rallying local populace to rebel or reinforce militias, increasing relation with Ming to hasten their reinforcement.
The game could also bring back population features to assess how much manpower you can draw from a region before it loses too much loyalty or manpower "dries up"
Japan at one point pushed all the way up the east coast even into Manchuria and fought a battle or two with the Jurchins, who could also be featured.
War lasted 6 years from roughly May 1592 to December 1598. 67 months. They could add a few years following up to the war to make it exactly 100 months to equate 100 turns.
Early game would be Korea and China desperately trying to get their shit together while Japan is wrapping up unification and stabilising, preparing for invasion.
Just throwing it out there. I really like the experiments CA is doing with Pharaoh and I hope they can expand it to other regions in various timelines as well.

25일 한국항공우주연구원(항우연)에 따르면 누리호는 이날 오후 6시24분 예정대로 이륙해 모든 발사 과정이 정상 진행됐다.
당초 발사 예정일은 24일이었지만 기술적 문제가 생기면서 발사가 하루 미뤄졌다.
발사 일정이 연기된 것은 2차 발사할 때도 있었던 일이다. 당시 누리호가 기립한 상태에서 초속 7m의 강풍이 불어 발사가 한 차례 지연됐고, 산화제 탱크 센서에서 이상이 발견되면서 발사가 또 연기됐다.
결국 원래 일정에서 6일 지난 지난해 6월21일 2차 발사가 이뤄졌다.
24일은 2차 발사 당시보다 기상 상황이 좋았지만, 저온 헬륨을 공급하는 밸브 제어 과정에서 문제가 발생했다.
오태석 과학기술정보통신부 1차관은 브리핑에서 "저온 헬륨을 공급하는 밸브를 제어하는 과정에서 발사 제어 컴퓨터와 발사대 설비를 제어하는 컴퓨터 간 통신 이상이 발생했다"며 "발사 하루 전인 어제 오전 점검 과정에서는 해당 문제가 발생하지 않았으나 발사 당일인 24일 오후 3시경에 문제가 발생했다"고 설명했다.

이 박사는 "옛날에는 광학으로 봤는데 이 위성을 통해 레이더로 관측을 하게 돼서 비가 오거나 구름이 오거나 이것도 다 볼 수 있게 된다"고 설명했다.
다만 전력 소비가 많다 보니 항상 햇빛을 받아 전력을 충전해야 한다.

오태석 과학기술정보통신부 1차관은 브리핑에서 "저온 헬륨을 공급하는 밸브를 제어하는 과정에서 발사 제어 컴퓨터와 발사대 설비를 제어하는 컴퓨터 간 통신 이상이 발생했다"며 "발사 하루 전인 어제 오전 점검 과정에서는 해당 문제가 발생하지 않았으나 발사 당일인 24일 오후 3시경에 문제가 발생했다"고 설명했다.

Please help me.My (24 f) spouse (24 f) takes care of her mother with sickle cell (50 f). We've known each other for over 10 years and are coming up on our one-year anniversary (tomorrow). Our relationship has been amazing despite some learning curves and we are extremely in love. I am noticing this situation has recently taken a toll on my spouse/our relationship- especially the last crisis. The situation has been taking a toll on me as well and I feel like her mother is constantly around or we're doing something that involves her.When my spouse and I were just friends I knew of her mother's illness but not in detail. I'd say I was the friend she vent to and took her mind off things by going out, traveling, etc. At the start of our romantic relationship, my spouse did not fully emerge me into the health concern or lifestyle. When her mother got sick, she would try to educate me and leave for the hospital or her mom's house to take care of pain, withdraw, etc. She would be gone for hours and I tried to be supportive by just having things in the house ready so she can relax once home, being open to talk, etc. When she was gone for hours, she always tried to be clear and communicative throughout the process and I tried to be supportive although I did not understand the full scope of the disease or this lifestyle. I've never had someone with a serious illness in my immediate family. My dad has addiction issues but I've been distant since the first couple of rehabs did nothing. Recently my spouse's mom had an attack and we took her to the hospital. We were in the middle of heading to our reservation when she got a call from her mom and we turned around to take her to the ER. I sat in the car for at least 4-5 hours until her mom got settled. My spouse was extremely apologetic. I tried to be kind and supportive telling her not to apologize for stuff she cannot control and let's continue with our day now that her mom is situated. But if I am being honest, this is a reoccurring thing. I want to be there and be supportive of my spouse when she needs me, but my personality in general has a lot of scheduling and control. I suffer from depression and when I am not "up and moving" I get fearful I will be down, so it's really has been a difficult adjustment for me. Anyways, her mom was in the hospital for about 4 days and my spouse went back-forth before/after work which is relatively normal. My spouse says the hospitals usually do not care about sickle cell and her mother often has no one there to advocate for her. My spouse came home extremely drained those days and was restless which impacted both our sleep (at least 3 days without real sleep). My spouse says it's draining to constantly argue with medical staff and advocate for her mom. Thursday night her mom got out of the hospital, long story short she had an anxiety attack and was rushed to the ER near her. They had no idea how to deal with it and should be shut down IMO. They tried to take blood directly from her artery and almost killed her. We let her get oxygen (low blood pressure) and then transferred her, ourselves, to another ER. They refused to transfer her without blood work and my spouse (and her sister via Facetime) refused to let them try to take it again/kill her. Her mom ended up feeling better by the time we to the other hospital and we went home. My spouse, and her mother, were distraught so her mom ended up staying with us. At this point, it was at least 2 in the morning. She and her dog stood with us in our one-bedroom for 3 days. I honestly had no problem with this, but I do work from home and it was extremely hard dealing with the noise. Additionally, I have depression and trouble sleeping throughout the night. It was hard to be confined to my office/bedroom throughout the day. It was hard not keeping my routines which is something I rely on. It was hard sleeping with the TV on the whole time since her mom is a night owl. I usually do not let small things bother me but lack of sleep and overall irritation with the situation got to me. My spouse was also restless and anxiety-anger driven which was causing tension. Her mom ended up going home and feeling better Sunday morning but she has been having anxiety about being alone. I thought we would drop her off on Sunday and get her settled, but we stood at her house for another 4-5 hours altogether. Finally, my spouse and I went back home to rest. An hour into us being home her grandma & mom called and my spouse went back over there for another 3-4 hours by herself to see them and hang out. It was now about 8 pm before I began hanging out with my spouse. Sunday is my only day off and time to spend with my spouse we are up for work by 5 am. It was also my brother's 21st birthday and I was not able to leave because we share a car, I did not want to leave my spouse, and I was extremely exhausted my eyes would barely stay open/kept leaking tears. The next day, Monday I am working from home (my spouse and her mom are off due to memorial day). My spouse's mom showed up here with her dog and we are now all going out once I am off at 5 pm. We ended up going to a Korean Spa and guess who paid for the entry- ME. Tuesday her mother asked me to go see some cars with her before my shift. My spouses sister is coming home from college and is getting her first car so I went. Wednesday (today), my day off, her mom randomly shows up at our house with her dog and assumes it is okay to leave her here without asking me or informing my spouse. The heating system in her building is out and she does not want her dog to overheat. I completely understand but it is very annoying and inconsiderate to assume I will be okay with that. My spouse has had that conversation with her multiple times and she does not seem to understand or care. Recently, my spouses landlord came over and saw the dog. Our apartment does not even allow dogs.I have to say, my spouse and her mothers relationship is already very strained. They're both working to fix it but the illness causes tension. Her mom feels like a burden and completely withdraws when she is feeling betteindependent. My spouse is depleted around that time and withdraws as well. Her mom gets sick every 6 months or so. Also, there is past abuse between them from childhood-adolences (physical, finanical, and verbal) that my spouse is holding onto. My spouse has a sister (f 20) who is away at college and she is going to talk to her about completing her master degree at home. I am unsure how sucessful that will be since the college is funding the masters degree and she also holds onto past trauma with her mom.I am on PTO until Monday and do not want to be bothered with anyone (or anything- pets included)! I am trying to use this time to get my mental health right and have my space. I understand medical emergencies but does this feel extreme to anyone else? How do I express this to my spouse? How do I (we) set boundaries in this situation?

SEOUL/TOKYO, May 31 (Reuters) - A North Korean satellite launch on Wednesday ended in failure, sending the booster and payload plunging into the sea, North Korean state media said, and the South's military said it had recovered parts of the launch vehicle.
The new "Chollima-1" satellite launch rocket failed because of instability in the engine and fuel system, state news agency KCNA reported.
The flight was the nuclear-armed state's sixth satellite launch attempt, and the first since 2016. It was supposed to put North Korea's first spy satellite in orbit.
It prompted emergency alerts and brief evacuation warnings in parts of South Korea and Japan but no danger or damage was reported.
South Korea's military said it was conducting a salvage operation to recover what is believed to be parts of the space launch vehicle.
The military shared pictures of a large cylindrical object floating in the sea about 200 km (124.27 miles) off the west coast island of Eocheongdo.
A U.S. official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the satellite flew less than 10 minutes, for several hundred kilometres. The launch occurred from the northwestern space launch facility and fell into the Yellow Sea, the official added d.
George William Herbert, adjunct professor at the Center for Nonproliferation Studies and a missile consultant, said the images showed at least part of a rocket, including an "interstage" section designed to connect to another stage.
It is most likely a liquid-fuel rocket, and a round, brown object inside is likely a propellant tank for either fuel or oxidizer, Herbert added.
Officials from the United States, Japan, South Korea held a phone call, where they "strongly condemned" the launch, Japan’s foreign ministry said.
"The three countries will stay vigilant with high sense of urgency", the statement said.
North Korea had said it would launch its first military reconnaissance satellite between May 31 and June 11 to boost monitoring of U.S. military activities.
South Korea last week placed satellites in orbit with a domestically designed and produced rocket for the first time, and China sent three astronauts to its space station as part of crew rotation on Tuesday.
The North Korean rocket plunged into the sea "after losing thrust due to the abnormal starting of the second-stage engine," KCNA reported, in an unusually candid admission of a technical failure by the North.
Pyongyang's National Aerospace Development Administration will investigate the "serious defects" and take action to overcome them before conducting a second launch as soon as possible, KCNA said.
WARNINGS ISSUED
North Korea appeared to have rushed its satellite launch after Seoul's recent space rocket launch, a South Korean lawmaker said citing his country's intelligence agency.
Lawmaker Yoo Sang-beom told journalists that North Korea's leader was believe to have observed the launch and Pyongyang may need several weeks at least to fix its rocket's problems.
"Even if this satellite launch is a failure, General Secretary Kim Jong Un himself has made clear that this satellite is the first of many," said Atsuhito Isozaki, professor of North Korean studies at Keio University in Japan. "This won’t be the end of those efforts."
Lee Choon Geun, honorary research fellow at South Korea's Science and Technology Policy Institute, said it was a rare opportunity for South Korea to retrieve part of a North Korean rocket, and perhaps even the satellite. Analysts say North Korea's capacity for constructing sophisticated satellites remains unproven.
In data provided to international authorities before the launch, North Korea said the rocket would fly south, with stages and other debris expected to fall over the Yellow Sea and into the Pacific Ocean.
Air raid sirens wailed across the South Korean capital of Seoul as the city warned citizens to prepare for a potential evacuation. Later alerts said the city warning had been a mistake.
"I was so panicked," said Lee Juyeon, 33, a resident in the city of about 10 million who was preparing to shelter in a basement with her young child before learning it was a false alarm.
The Japanese government also issued an emergency warning over its J-Alert broadcasting system for residents of the southern prefecture of Okinawa to take cover indoors early on Wednesday morning.
It later said the rocket would not fly into Japanese territory and lifted the warnings. Japan had this week vowed to shoot down any projectile that threatened its territory.
The White House condemned the launch and said it was assessing the situation in coordination with allies.
Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno said North Korea's rocket disappeared from radar above the Yellow Sea and did not make it into space.
Japan strongly condemns the launch and has lodged a complaint to Pyongyang through diplomatic channels in Beijing, he said.
U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also condemned the launch, a spokesperson said, noting any launch by Pyongyang using ballistic missile technology breached Security Council resolutions.

- Thanks for your musings on fountain pens! No I do not post my pens - I'm so much more of a layperson that I didn't even know that that means putting the cap on the back! I should try that because I would prefer the pen to be longer, although I wonder how it'd affect the center of gravity. I do own a syringe that's meant for refilling fountain pen cartridges but I've never done that since I worry about spilling ink. I just use the CON-40 adapter (I have a handful of them), or if I'm going on a trip then I take one of my TWSBI pens (Eco or Diamond), since their reservoir will typically last me for the whole trip. I did also think that the Lamy 2K didn't flow as well as I expected, but it didn't occur to me that other 2Ks might be different/better.
- Thanks for the bonus card with the old (1855) photo from the Fort Sumter light station! I had never heard of that place - had to look it up! My girlfriend will come back soon from her trip but as you noted, we're then going away for a bit together! I haven't written much in the last month and my experience generally is that I write less when I'm on trips so my response might not be quick, but I will write back at some point - probably a postcard from our trip, although perhaps only sent once we're back home. Thanks again!

I've only been to Wi Spa and, while the amenities were great, the vibe was very hectic.
I'm interested in a place where I can relax with nice spa amenities for half a weekday. No massage needed. Ideally it'd be a place with fewer kids running around. Not necessary, but would also consider bringing my laptop to extend the stay and get some work done...
Any suggestions? Willing to pay a premium!
Edit- it doesn't necessarily have to be a Korean spa if there are other spas out there that offer day passes and nice amenities.
